We have always found that the split plate fee does not apply to two people eating from the same plate, it's when you want the kitchen to split your entree between two plates and you receive two sides (fruit, two pots of jam, etc). If you just have two people eating from the same plate they don't charge the fee.

Also, we've even had them bring an empty plate at BB and we split an adult entree for the kids ourselves. Didn't pay a split plate fee for that either.

Good lord, $17.49??? I was thinking of trying it, but that's too much for a sandwich! You can get a really nice steak somewhere for that price!
