I really, really want to try the Monte Cristo during my trip to DL in September. I figure after running a 1/2 marathon, I deserve a deep fried meal.

Which restaurant do you recommend going to for the Monte Cristo? It seems lately I've been hearing a lot of negative feedback about Blue Bayou.

Is it prepared the same way at both? And is the price the same at both? I can't seem to find any prices for the Blue Bayou. I see that it's $15.99 at Cafe Orleans.

Thanks in advance for any opinions!

Yes the Monte Cristo is prepared the same way in both locations....only difference is at the BB it is only served during lunch hours.

If price matters, the MC at Cafe Orleans is cheaper. It's the same amount of food for a cheaper price.

I can not eat the thing but my daughters like CO better than BB. I thought it was prepared in the same kitchen for both places.

Yes BB and CO share the same kitchen. We asked when we went to CO if they shared a kitchen with BB (since that was what I had heard) and the waitress said yes. So it's the same sandwhich but cheaper at CO.

Like teatime said, that menu is incomplete. I prefer to go look at menus on allears.net. http://allears.net/dlr/din/menu/menus.htm#dl

FYI, it's cheaper at CO because you get NO sides, just a small bunch of grapes. At BB you get a soup or salad, dinner rolls and veggies on the side. If those things aren't important to you go to CO. The sandwich is the same at both places, I've never been able to tell a difference.

Oh yeah, duh, I forgot about that. No side dishes and you get grapes.

At CO they offer cheese only, BB they don't.

I thought that the two restaurants shared the same kitchen too, but I asked at BB if I could get the cheese only (ovo-lacto veggie). The waiter went to the kitchen and asked. He came back and said that they could pull the meat off before they cooked it but that they could not get the same one as CO. After this experience, I really wonder. As for the sides, who is able to eat the sides and all of the Monte Cristo anyway? I had the cheese one at CO and barely made it through 1/2. I say cheaper with no sides is better!!! Finish it off with an order of Mickey beignets!!!!!!!:cool1:

My mouth is watering for beignets!!!

I almost canceled my reservation for the BB,

because of the negative feedback.

But I'm glad we went. Lunch at the BB was very enjoyable!

And I liked the Monte Cristo very much. :goodvibes

me, I can eat the sandwich and the sides :lmao:

Cafe Orleans -- Get the Pomme Frittes -- I wake up at 2 am dreaming of them!! They are sprinkled with garlic & parmesan cheese & come w/ this heavenly dipping sauce. If you get the onion soup, you can put the parmesan cheese crumbs in your soup! :cheer2: Also love the Salmon salad! DS (9) loves the kids salmon! DH loves the ratatoulle (sp???) We always get the Mickey begneits (again spelling???) They come with a vanilla & berry dipping sauce. The last time my younger DS (5) decided that the leftover berry dipping sauce should not be wasted. So he decided to shoot it! It's kind of thick, so I convince him to use a knife! Anyway, we no longer bother with BB & go to Cafe Orleans -- better food for way less dough. If you want to drop that much cash you can either go to StoryTellers or send me a private message and I'll send you my address! ;)

I have a reservation there also :lmao: to also have the monte cristo there, and the pom frys and the onion soup... I will b full :lmao::lmao:

we are doing the blue byou for the ambiance...... and for 21.00 you do get gumbo or a salad, potatoes and veggies. so its still a wonderful deal.

Going to BB for lunch a week from Thurs. I grew up loving Monte Cristos, can't wait to try Disney's!!

The MC is soooooo good but it's hard for me to finish it. I do love it at BB but I also like other meals at BB. When we go to CO I get a salad & soup, DBF gets the MC and we get Pomme Frites to share, I get a bite or two of his MC and we are all happy. :) But BB is great, the ambience can't be beat!!

So this is what you get at Cafe Orleans.

Yup, and at the BB you get soup or salad and extra sides.

I really wish my kid would eat a MC or pommes frittes for that matter. My friend and I split both at CO when we were there in March and they were both wonderful. I love a monte cristo. My dad used to take me for lunch at Bennigans, before they closed here, and I'd always get a monte cristo.

Anyway, they really are filling and one is definitely more than a serving for me. Great! Now I'm craving pommes frittes. lol
