Help.... have found out that POC will be closed while we're at DLR as well the Blue Bayou. We were planning on having lunch there one day to have try the very famous Monte Crisco Sandwiches. I know some don't like them but they were on our "must try" list.

My question... will we be able to find these sandwiches anywhere else around that part of DLR that they will serve them since the restaurant will be closed??

Thanks!

I believe that Cafe Orleans has the Monte Cristo on its menu.

We find it way to rich, but that said, were glad to have tried it once so we now know what it's all about.

Same here. We were going to try them in Sept/Oct at Cafe Orleans, but we were also planning on having a nice dinner at the Blue Bayou during our trip. :sad2:

Well first, it's Monte CrisTo not Monte CrisCo. LOL :) And yes, you can get them at CO as well, they come from the same kitchen and are the same sandwich, you just don't get sides at CO. :) BUT you can get Pomme Frites and Beignets there and you can't get those at BB. :)

:rotfl2: HA HA HA!!! I've never had one but have seen pictures (and heard enough about them) to find that hilarious. I didn't even notice the thread title til it was pointed out!

Just for kicks, I wouldn't mind trying one. Anybody know what exactly is in them?

From the menu at Cafe Orleans:

Monte Cristo Sandwich - Sliced turkey, ham and Swiss cheese fried in a light batter and served with berry puree dusted with Powdered Sugar.

Three-Cheese Monte Cristo - Swiss, mozzarella and Double Creme Brie fried in a light batter and served with Berry Puree dusted with Powdered Sugar.

I've tried one and found it DELICIOUS! It's a pricey sandwich, but to have that "try it once" experience, it's so worth it. :thumbsup2

And optionally dipped in jam. I love it dipped in jam. It's one of those wacky combinations that is heavenly! *angels singing*:worship:

Wahoo.... wahoo.... wahooo..... :cool1::banana::cool1::banana::cool1::banana:

Thank you all so much for letting me know where we could find the sandwich. Sooo happy. Just reading the description one posted about the turkey and the ham and the cheese... and the fried-ness... ummmmmm, so looking forward to it. It's basically a heart attack on a plate from the sounds of it, but I'll be on vacation. I throw caution to the wind and just enjoy things that I might not ever get to again.

And my slip-up on the name was a total mistake... yet somehow fitting!!
:lmao:

(the cheese version is really greasy... recommend the standard version!)

It's battered and fried? Oh my!

I guess it's that whole sweet + savory = yummy :)

Do they have a split fee? I remember reading that Blue Bayou charges to split the sandwich but there is NO WAY we could each finish one!!

Since Blue Bayou is going to be closed are any seating areas better than others at Cafe Orleans? Any time better than others? Just trying to make it great since we'll be missing out on BB.

The hubs and I split our last time because yes it's rich but SO darn good. It's one of those things I really only like to have at DLR because nowhere else does it as good.

:lmao: @ Crisco! Awesome!

i have never really been interested in this sandwich, but now... reading these forums everyday to get my disney fix until my own trip keep seeing the monte cristo and the hunger grows.

My understanding is that if you split the sandwich yourself they won't charge a split fee. If the restaurant splits it and puts it on separate plates for you, they'll charge you. We like to sit outside at a patio table and people-watch. They're such interesting creatures.

I just got off the phone and made a PS for Cafe Orleans for next week. :cool1: One of my sons love this sandwhich and is trying to talk someone into sharing it with him. Last year he ordered the sandwhich and my other son ordered fries and they both just shared. As for me, it is full of things I don't like- ham and swiss for starters. I just go for the fries and beignets. Last time I ordered a salad also to help balance all that. I'm sure the greens cancel out anything bad in the other two. :rotfl:

Oh yeah, my DH always calls it Monte Crisco too. :rotfl2: He says "Let's watch The Count of Monte Crisco again." Great movie, BTW.
