I had bought two of these daisies yesterday, and there were no instructions on how to care for them and such. Does anyone have any experience with these type of daisies? Will they have seeds that I can later take and plant?

Montauk Daisies!!! THAT brings back a memory or two! :D :D

In our area, you need to cut them back before July 1st and then I used a rooting hormone and potting mixture to start new plants and then planted them back outside with the mother plant when they were more established.

I got my plant in 2002 and had some problems with it. The plant survived in the Spring of 2003 and I did the above that year. I was rewarded with a beautiful display of flowers.

This year, I never got around to cutting the plants back and they grew quite long and don't look as nice as they did the year before.

Montauk Daisies!
MD are Nippon mums so treat them as you would any mums. They like to be cut back in summer, well drained soil but will survive in dry areas.

For the last few weeks I've been obsessing over them. They bring back happy memories of LI where I managed to grow them very well. I moved here (NJ) and killed the only pot I brought with me. I don't know why they are easy to keep.

I finally found 3 large pots at a local nursery. Thrilled with my find and now worrying about the right place to plant. As I was wandering around I recalled the thread. It brought an instant smile to my face. Thanks again Tuli.

Thank you very much for the info. There is this other type of daisy that I wanted to get that my DH's sister in law had planted at her house in Las Vegas, but I can't find them here, so until then I will see how these daisies will do.

In the resurrected thread, Amid asked how my M. Daisy is doing now. I thought it would be appropriate to post an updated picture of them in this thread.

Thanks but I think they are way too leggy. As I said earlier, I didn't cut them back this year. The area is a mess too. I cropped the picture to leave most the mess out. I was just not into gardening or yard work this year at all.
