Monsters Inc. rollercoaster?

Agree. I think the art piece that people think is Muppets is why? Because of a brick store front? Because of a water tower? Disney just might have done that to throw people off, keep a conversation going. And maybe they are building those in the new land?

AND how tall will the coaster building have to be? The whole reason they took the balloon off Muppets is they didn't want it seen from Galaxy Edge. What do you think a big coaster building will look like?
The brick is just what Monstropolis looks like in the movie too. I really wouldn't read too much into it.

I agree but many are leaning in to that is Grand Ave .... that is PizzaRizzo with the water tower .... folks don't get it is concept art. Unless it is clear as a bell like the new Cars/Frontierland which shows Frontierland, Tiana and Big Thunder it is just a concept process.

That honestly makes sense to me. Rock N is nearing the end of its life cycle (for a typical Vekoma coaster - which is approx. 25 years) and it runs year round vs other coasters of its type which run seasonally. It's been rumored that the ride has to keep getting refurbs due to fundamental issues with the ride due to age.
Yeah so even if they are keeping it they will have to have it retracked or completely replaced so at that point and with Aerosmith retiring and being more unknown to the kids ... do you start over with something else.

NOW as I'm typing is the reason to build the Monster's Coaster now due to the end of life for RnR so that they can remove it without removing a coaster since a newer one is now there???

I can't wait. I LOVE Monsters, Inc, in my top Pixar movie list, so excited they're finally adding a ride, and even better that it's a thrill ride/coaster.

So excited about this. Hoping it lives up to the hype. Hoping they give it the budget that it needs. If done right, this could be amazing.

Yup - my first thought upon hearing about the Monster coaster and Aerosmith retiring was that RnR is probably not going to be around more than a few more years. Hopefully they'll keep whatever is there next as a thrill ride as they still need a few more rides in that park to ease the congestion. But I expect a full gutting and rebuild and not just a retheme.

I think it will go behind the animation courtyard, there is a lot of real estate back there between that and ToT, the Launch Bay is a waste of space. And it could link up a few lands by using that area.
I agree. Based on the artwork shared by Disney and an overview of the area on Google Maps between Animation Courtyard/Launch Bay and Rock n' Rollercoaster, I think the entrance to the new Monsters Inc Land will likely be Showbiz Boulevard, located by the Sunset Ranch Market.

If you compare the shape of the layout of the buildings in the concept art shared by Disney to the shape of this area on Google Maps, they line up very closely. They would obviously need to remove some building backlot to make this happen. There would be a number of different options to then connect this area to Sunset Boulevard, RnR, Animation Courtyard, etc. This location would also give the opportunity to connect the Monsters Inc Land and Toy Story Land by a pathway behind the Star Wars Launch Bay and the Voyage of the Little Mermaid.

That was also the other thing we said, after duh what took so long and don't touch the Muppets, I think RNR could go now. Used to be my very favorite, but it's gotten old.

The reason people are thinking it will be Muppets is because the concept art shows Galaxy's Edge directly behind Monsters Inc. Galaxy's Edge is not behind Animation Courtyard. It is behind Muppets. Now, I don't necessarily agree with this rumor because I also think Animation Courtyard makes the most sense, but I get why people are nervous.

Hmmm, I didn't think that was Galaxy's Edge in the background. I just assumed it was 2D paintings of industrial smokestacks to block the view of backstage. But now that you say it, it does kind of look like Galaxy's Edge...

The more I look at the post on the Disney Park's Blog, the more confused I become. I wish Disney would just release where this is going lol

When looking at the two pieces of concept art that are included in the blog post, it almost looks as if there are two different sides of the main rollercoaster building being shown. In one, you can see the domed entrance to the ride. We know this is the main entrance because Disney also shared the 3D model of the ride at D23.

However, when looking at the other piece of concept art (the one with Sully in the foreground), there appears to be red brick buildings in front of the main rollercoaster building. So are we looking at the back of the rollercoaster building in this photo? Furthermore, there is Harryhausen's (the Japanese restaurant in the first movie) with an entrance with a large eye over top of it, which is not included in the other piece of concept art.

Like I said, I am left with more questions than anything else.

So what sort of ride will this be? Have they given any indication yet? Will it be a family thrill ride or just a kids ride?

???? What concept art shows that? I have only seen two pieces that show Monstropolis.

BLOG MICKEY just shared this article from THE WRAP .... per them the location of Monster Inc Coaster has not been finalized.

Suspension coaster (hanging from track), not a kids ride.
