Monsters Inc Laugh Floor-how do they pick?

Is it just random how they choose the participants or do they choose certain seats?

When we went it seemed like they chose people from the front and the back. I was wondering if they only choose people who sit at the seats with the lamps-if those were special cameras?

The reason why I'm asking is because I DON'T want to be picked next time we go. I didn't get picked last time & I really enjoyed watching the show, but I am very shy & was a little anxious that I was going to be chosen. If it's just random, I'll deal. It was such a funny show! But I would prefer to let someone else get picked to participate.

I think they have little spy cameras and microphones, because last time we were there in the waiting area, I kept saying, "I want to sit someplace where I won't get on camera!" When we sat down, guess who was first on the screen? Me and my DH, with the caption, "Mr. & Mrs. Invisible." That was freaky! But we were never seen again so it was OK.
The people who are picked are such good sports, it really makes the show. But that doesn't mean I want to be one of them...

Hahaha, i never had gotten picked but it would be neat to! Yes, I have always wondered how they know to pick certain people? But anyways the show is hysterical.

I am guessing it is totally random. My dad, who is a cute little bald Italian man, ALWAYS gets picked on whenever we go anywhere. And guess what? They picked him here too! It was the best and we had a good laugh! Glad it was not me though!!

I didn't want to get picked either so I'm also curious how they do pick. I almost didn't go because I really didn't want to get picked that bad. But luckily I didn't get selected and I was so glad I went. It was really funny and the people they did pick were such good sports.

I think it's random....just who they think they can get good stuff from. When we went the main subject was a santa clause look a like.

I definitely think it's random! That's the fun part. I've been praying for my DM to get up on the screen, but they haven't found her yet!

I don't think my DD12 will go back unless I could promise her she wouldn't be chosen (like if it was only peolpe in certain seats....). She is sooooo self-conscious, (the age doesn't help) and I know she couldn't even enjoy the one show we went to because she was anxious about being chosen.

So if anyone has any inside info, that would assure me how not to get picked, it would allow me to see the show again someday.

It's random, but I do think you have to be sitting at the lamps. I don't think they're the cameras, but I think the one nearest the person on the screen brightens to provide the light for the camera. Someone behind the scenes looks around the cameras and picks people - I bet that'd be a fun job. I think sitting away from the lamps and off to either side helps you not get picked. I also wonder if being some of the last people in would also help you not get picked. Maybe they've already selected people by the time you get in there.

Usually one person from my party always gets picked for the psychic number guessing part. We are usually sitting on the end of the aisle in the middle section. The first time I was picked it was my birthday so I had on a crown and a sash. The other two times my friend and my mom were chosen because they has sunglasses on top of their heads and he said he needed someone with eyes on top of their heads. I think they just look for people that will be good sports about it and participate. Also we love texting in our jokes!

I was chosen and believe me that's not my thing but it wasn't so bad. The kids thought it was hilarious.

DH was Sully one year. I think I enjoyed it more than he did.

My 17 year old DS has a curly hair in a 'fro...he was picked at "hairy" Sully. Too funny.

Could someone let me know what "being picked" entails, because we're heading there in a week and I really wanted to see this. But my poor shy daughter would probably burst into tears if she was picked on.

I got "picked" in 2008. I was very self concious and remember pulling my baseball cap down (after hours in the park i wasnt feeling camera ready LOL)
I think they picked me because I had several pins ( 1st trip anniversary and grand gathering) along with personalized Tshirts. So it was pretty easy for the CM.
However i think that was the most fun we had the entire trip

We've only been twice but each time they only picked adults...one of which was my sister! She had to do the physic number part and it was just hilarious.

I wish they would let you take photos but they are really quick to forcefully remind you. I mean, one of your family gets up on the big screen and it's only a natural reaction to point your camera up there without thinking. The CM's were pretty rude about it, imo, but the show is great.

Being picked just means you're on the big screen for everyone to see and are the "butt" of some of the jokes. They show various people with funny quotes on the screen before the show starts. Then during the show they will go back to one of those people repeatedly and crack good-natured jokes at that person's expense. It's all harmless & in good fun.

My girls were thrilled during our '09 trip when their texted jokes were used during the show. They loved having the characters say their names!! Text simple kid-friendly jokes and the characters include some of them in the show.

DD was picked to be Boo. She thought it was great!!
They picked a guy that had a big overgrown beard and hair was about the same that was Sully, (he really looked the part )
A bald headed guy was Mike.
A girl way in the back was picked to play the psychic part and she was Clueless.

We definitely will do this again.
