I picked up the DS flyer for the MI order for MI.
It states guests receive the 4 piece litho set PLUS a FREE $10 Gift Card when you spend $50 or more. ($50 sale must include the pre-sale purchase.)
$19.99 DVD
$15.00 VHS
Now that the commercial is out of the way -- the manager didn't know anything about upgrading the pre-sale to include a pin.
Anyone know if it is just the catalog offering the pre-sale upgrade?

Yes, the catalog does offer a pin. You have to upgrade your package. You can get the DVD and the four lithos for $19.99, or I believe for either $25.99 or $29.99 (sorry, I can't remember which price), you can upgrade, and you also receive a pin and a Boo doll. Looks pretty cute!

Do you know if the upgrade is for catalog orders only? Or will the stores offer the same upgrade option?

I am not sure about that. My DS is not even doing the MI preorders yet. I looked at the Disney Store website, it does not say catalog exclusive or online exclusive anywhere. Aslo, the upgraded DVD preorder is $29.99, it is $25.99 for VHS. Sorry, not much help as to whether or not this offer will be available in the stores.

Not sure of extras that DS will be offering, but the pre-sale for Monsters starts 7/23/02 to coincide with I guess, Tarzan and Jane being released.

I am a DS CM and was told that we will not be offering the upgrade and beanie deal. Instead we are offering a $10 gift card, in limited quantities, if you spend a total of $50 when buying the presale. (the video/DVD counts towards the $50)

I'd rather get a $10 Gift Card from DS than spend an extra $10 plus shipping to get a pin. Especially considering the new adult clothes and the wonderful new snowglobes (that aren't even in the catalog yet) that I could use that free $10 gift card on!

When I prder through the DC catalog, I always order through a calalog I picked up at the DS. -- Free shipping and I get my DC discount.

What's the situation with the free shipping from the catalogs picked up at the store? Is there shipping charged on the items in the catalogs that we get in the mail but not the ones from the store?

Correct. from my recent experiences, the DS has the same catalog as what you get in the mail.
But with the store catalog, there is a code on the back that gives you free shipping.
Of course, everything Disney related is subject to change.
I read a post last week on the Budget Board that some code was actually still being used for a discount. (15%? Don't recall now.)
You may want to check that on the Budget Board and see if that is still the case.
