We saw it yesterday and really liked it. I had some concerns about the movie simply because I had seen about 1000 trailers and commercials for it. But I was pleasantly surprised that the advertising did not give away the whole movie. Our kids (9 and 6) really got into it. I thought it was appropriate on the "scare factor" level. It was intense, yet not over the edge for the younger set. All in all, a pleasant surprise.

There is a nice little bonus in the flick for all Napoleon Dynamite fans.

Great news! We were thinking about taking DS(5). But, he gets scared easily. He saw POTC2 the other day, that was fine. You think it's okay for him, too?

Thanks for that review! :)

I am surprised. I have heard LOTS of reviews warning about taking small children. One review said every kid in the place was crying, whimpering or loudly asking to leave.

I took my DS (11) this past Friday night. The theater was FULL of kids. I didn't hear anyone crying or having a hard time and no one left. Having said that, my son is a scaredy cat and he would have had a problem with this movie when he was 5 years old. But that's just him.

This is not the kind of movie that will give the kids nightmares or anything, but there are some intense parts that, in that moment, are scary. But they are over quickly. The man in the Monster House is VERY scary (and ugly). The house is VERY creepy and it does creepy things to the kids.

I don't think it qould be scary for the younger kids, but if it is 3-D yes maybe the effects may scare them. But if I were smaller I wouldn't be afraid, at least I think I wouldn't.

Although most of the reviews I read for this movie were outstanding, I wasn't totally blown away. It was a good movie, but it wasn't as fantastic as the reviews. IMHO. Also, IMO some small kids might find it a little intense. It really depends on the kid.

It is worth the price of admission, but don't expect a Toy Story or Toy Story 2.

We saw it when we were in Disney. My kids 7 and 10 really liked it. We watched it in 3d. Sometimes my daughter 7 took the glasses off, but it was kinda more out of anticipation than because she was truly scared! We really enjoyed the movie. It was well done in our opinion!!! :thumbsup2

My 5YO daughters were fine, but I can't really say they scare easily or not. They had a few moments where they kinda recoiled and grabbed our hands, but no crying at all.

And we also thought it was a pretty good movie. We saw the 3D version.

Thanks! I'll see how it goes, we're probably going to go.

We'll have to check this out. We hadn't heard too much about this one (we must have missed the 1000 or so trailers), but this movie got good reviews from Ebert and Roper -- they called this the best animated movie of the summer!! They did warn that it was pretty scary for the 10 and under set.

I really liked it a lot! I thought it was very funny-one of the better kids movies I've seen lately.
My kids asked to go, I told them it might be too scary, showed them the trailer and they said it's fine, let's go!

My son(almost 5) covered his eyes in one part,my daughter (6) sat on my lap, but neither one was scared and neither one had trouble going to sleep.
DS said as we were leaving, "When that comes out on 'Disney DVD and video' we need to buy it!"
LOL!! He watches a lot of Disney DVDs can you tell?

We went to see it yesterday. We liked it (DS is 10). There were at least 3 kids in the theater who I heard (quite loudly) say they were scared and wanted to leave. Two of them were crying.

If a 5 year old can see POTC without getting scared I'm sure MH won't bother them.

I saw it and thought it was very good. I did not see it in 3D. I can see how the 3D aspect might make it scarier for little ones.

I must be the only one who has never heard of this movie. When I heard the title of it, I thought it was by those people who do the "Monster Garage" show...

Glad to read your good review - DS7 is dying to see this. I am pretty sure it will be too intense for DS3 (4 next week!) though.

I seem to be in a small minority, but I would not take DS6 to see POTC2. After seeing it myself, I thought it was just too gruesome for him. MOnster House is more of a Goosebumps type story.

We also enjoyed it. :thumbsup2

I am scared to type more--B/c I don't want to post any spoilers :rotfl:
