My sister has a job at a day care right now, and I feel so bad for her. There is this little 3 year old there who is an absolute monster. He screams, kicks, bites, scratches, and pulls hair! Yesterday, she told me she came home with a quarter sized welt on her arm from being bit. He had even broken through the skin. She has talked to her boss and the mother has been talked to, but nothing is improving.

Her boss will do something when the little darling bites another child and has a parent breathing down her neck. :earseek:

Oh boy, I've been there. I swear this kid I dealt with got delight in hurting others. I don't know how much money his mom paid the director, but they wouldn't kick him out no matter what and we had to take it.

I hope her situation improves fast. I wish I had some advice.

If it doesn't start to heal and stays swollen & red she should probably go and get it checked out because human bites are highly prone to infection.

I use to work in a Day care and I can't imagine them doing nothing about it, that's ridiculous.

And make sure to tell her that if she does need to seek medical help- it would be under Workman's comp... that might get her boss to do something about the biter too!

usually mean getting some antibiotics if it broke the skin ......tell your sister

Tell her to coat her arms in Bitter Apple Spray for the biter!!

Absolutely!!! Your sister should definitely inform her doctor.

as a Nursery school Director, I would definitely be in constant communication with the parents. how old is the child? I would tell your sister to document every instance of aggressive behavior in non-judgemental, factual terms including time of day and events leading up to the behavior. This information will be very valuable to any doctor or therapist that eventually works with the child. It will also be very helpful in dealing with the parents.

Yikes! My dd was bitten by her "friend" at daycare 3 times when she was 2.5. One time the bite was so bad that the pad of Dierdre's finger was bitten off. She bled - a lot. This was the third and final bite. I didn't go nuts on the outside (different story on the inside) because I had to take Dierdre to the doctor to stop the bleeding and to get a shot. When all that was done, I changed my attitude immensely. I met with the director and laid it on line. The other child was to be moved if not removed and she was NEVER to be allowed near my daughter. It was done because they didn't have any choice. Now a year and a half later Jessica and Dierdre and great friends again and Jessica is well passed the biting stage but I am still weary at times....

Your sister definitely needs to see a doctor and something needs to be done about the kid. Serious damage can be done by biting and that is unacceptable.

Good luck!

Erin :D
