Monorails to no longer operate during Evening Extra Magic Hours

Has anyone seen any post(s) from anyone who has actually been effected by this yet?

HAHA I was just thinking that as I was reading the past few pages. They should be starting to post from Epcot experiences. MK isn't affected until August 1.

Capitalism and free enterprise.

Accept it or move on.

It doesn't matter what the real reason for the change is. Complaining about it will not likely make any difference, the change is probably here to stay.

It really is that simple.

My response is not intended to try and make me sound intelligent; I'm just a dumb canuck. :scared1:
Of course they should be free to shut the monorail down. They should be free to dismantle the whole thing, if they so choose.

Doesn't mean everyone has to believe a lie is the truth and remain blissfully ignorant. Or even blissful...about being lied to.

In your opinion.

Isn't that what this whole thread has become? A bunch of opinions on why Disney has cut back the hours.

We are never all going to agree on the why of it, and starting to knock other posters for how they post is just plain silly. Not meaning any poster in particular, but there sure is plenty of it going around.

You say tomato I say tomahto. Technically, you'd be correct, however, not a whole lot of people were paying rack rates before the, "free dining," was implemented. So, while they're paying regular price in the most technical definition, an awful lot of people didn't pay rack rates. I don't know what the percentage was but I'm sure it was high. They couldn't give discounts away quickly enough in past years (before 9/11 as well).

If you have a store and you have a sign out front saying, "All items 50% off!" And you have this sign in front ALL of the time. This becomes your regular price whether or not you call it your regular price since everyone is paying 50% off all of the time. Of course, you can always go back to a non-discounted price but your regular customers aren't going to look at that as your regular price any longer.

No matter how you look at it, free dining is anything but free.
An awful lot of people did, do, and will continue to pay rack rate, too though - with or without an incentive. It's not a matter of "tomayto/tomahto"; there's never been free dining, it's always been the dining plan free, despite what people choose to call it.

As for the store example, you're describing Kohl's, aren't you? I mean, they're pretty blatant about everything always being on sale. Do they ever sell anything at a regular price? Doesn't stop people from shopping there.

I agree with you.
Everyone has an opinion, and is entitled to it....

I actually couldn't give a monkeys WHY it's happening, I just want clarification on the contingency plan for event nights so I can plan accordingly...

Regarding operating cost: the monorails run on electric induction, don't they?

Nope, traditional electric traction motors turning rubber tires.

TTA/PPM is induction based, tho'. Maybe that's what they need to run between resorts -- a new peoplemover.

But isn't that tomayto/tomahto exactly? On the boards here we call it it "free dining". It is understood to be "free dining plan". "free dining plan" and "dining plan free" is the same thing.

Best idea yet. I love the people mover. A continuously running slow train. It might be slow but it would never stop.

Ok, you are correct, technically, it's free. Sort of like when you go to the store and get a buy one get one free item. Yes, you're getting a free item but you are paying a premium to get that free item. Sometimes it makes sense (money-wise) and other times it doesn't.

What we're saying is, it's free in that there's not a line item you pay for it but you are paying for it in the price of the room/Photopass/whatever else you have to do to get it. And besides, so many people are unhappy with the food and the plan in general, it's seeming less and less free. ;)
If one is unhappy with something - the value or the product - the reasonable response is to not purchase that thing. Not as many people as you seem to think are unhappy paying rack rate for the room and getting the dining plan free (see my example on a recent page, where four people over 9 in a Value room pay less for the room than the QSDP would cost or for the room and the DDP add-on than the DDP would cost).

One thing I'll say for this thread -- it has reaffirmed my previous poster "ignore" selections... :lmao:

But even "free dining plan" is different from "free dining".

Again, your attempts at sounding intelligent do not help your arguments whatever they may be.
Why not just let each poster worry about sounding intelligent themselves, instead of trying to make it sound like you can declare perspectives you disagree with as unintelligent? I don't see any good coming from you continually trying to drive the discussion toward disparaging me personally. It is just appears that you're unwilling to discuss anything with me, and instead will just reply to anything I post with some mud-slinging at me. It's unseemly.

You like to pick apart how others say things. That does not highlight criticisms, that's just plain annoying.
I'm assessing the issue rationally. I'm sorry if that annoys you. Please feel free to ignore my messages if you don't care for that kind of discussion.

In your opinion.
Yes, that specific statement was just my opinion. Very true. There are other things I've posted which were a bit broader, i.e., reasonable conclusions about how the typical guest will perceive things. Still an opinion, of course, but a bit different in context. And I am pretty sure that I pointed that out earlier in the thread, that our individual opinions are insignificant, and even the opinion, specifically, of DIS board members as a group, doesn't matter much - that we're too small and specialized a group to have our collective perspective reflect the general public on matters-Disney.

Doesn't mean everyone has to believe a lie is the truth and remain blissfully ignorant. Or even blissful...about being lied to.
However, the characterization of this information as "a lie" is one of the issues being discussed. Something cannot be a lie if it is a matter of perspective. When Disney says, "for our guests' better enjoyment" that cannot be rebutted on objective grounds. You don't have to agree with their assessment in that regard, but you can't characterize that as a "lie" because you disagree.

Perhaps to clarify: Please outline specifically what Disney has written in official publications that you feel is objectively a "lie"?

So how do you know this if those people are being ignored? Just curious. ;)

What could be called reasonable can also often be in the eyes of the beholder. Plus should our opinions be so quickly discounted? While we might know more than the average Disney visitor and might in turn react more strongly, we are also more prone to defend and forgive this corporation.

Click on the user's name. Along the top bar, just above "Last Activity", you'll see a "User Lists" drop down. One of the options is "Add to ignore list".

Super handy. I used to think the ability to disable signatures was the best feature of the board. But, I think the ignore list is instead.

Oh, did you type something? Oh yeah, still bickering about...oh wait, I have still have no idea....

Hmm, you were the one who started chiming in on people's posts (mine included) where you try to sound intelligent by picking apart the post rather than discuss the issue. Others are here discussing the issue, you're here discussing who knows what most of the time....
