Am I being stupid that I'm so obsessed with being on the monorail that I won't even look at other hotels, even when perfectly lovely ones cost half the price!!

It's so silly, considering it really only adds something when you go to MK or Epcot.

Is anyone else like this?:confused3

I'm desparate to go back this year, but am waiting until we've saved enough to afford a Monorail hotel when actually we could probably afford to go each year if we went more budget hotel...... seems like a no-brainer but I just can't do it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're not alone. The first two times we went I didn't consider anywhere other than the Contemporary - simply because of the way the monorail goes through it.

Not something we have ever considered but I totally dislike public transport, If I could park next to MK and miss the monorail I would.
Would never stay at Contemp, don't like it from outside or inside. GF nice to look around but again not somewhere I would care to stay at. Poly maybe someday, best out of the 3 for me but would rather stay at WL or AKL.
Everyone likes different things though, we have had better hols offsite than onsite, don't like Value resorts at all but other love them. You might prefer to save for one special trip at GF every 2 years, I prefer offsite value & travelling in economy(indirect if cheaper) but go 3 or 4 times a year.

I know where you're coming from, we're much the same!

It's a wonderful feeling knowing you can leave your hotel room in the morning and be standing inside Magic Kingdom in just a couple of minutes. We've never been tempted by The Contemporary (although BLT has swayed us!), but GF and Polynesian are definitely our two best resorts.

At the end of the day, it's your trip and if you'd rather save up and splash out on a monorail hotel then why not? The worst thing would be to stay somewhere else and spend your vacation "wishing" you were at the hotel of your choice.

I totally dislike public transport
I'm the same (we don't use the WDW bus system), but I'd hardly call the resort monorail "public transport" - it's more like an attraction/experience for us :)

I don't think you are being stupid at all, staying on-site is about location in many ways and having what you most enjoy about Disney nearby.
Having the Polynesian, Grand Floridian, Contemporary and Bay Lake all within easy reach on the Monorail route helps you enjoy the facilities of all these resorts.
In addition having Magic Kingdom on your doorstep is a cool thing to have, just a short journey away, no need to take your car.

What's not to like about that? :) I would rather go once and have the perfect holiday than go twice and stay somewhere I didn't like or didn't want to stay at.

Monorail to MK in a few minutes - sounds fab to me, and hopefully will be doing something along these lines next year for a few nights.

I agree with Frances, never thought about Monorail as 'public transport' either. Especially as no-one comes round collecting tickets

You are definately not alone i am obsessed by the CR i just love it,cannot even give a reason why.My DH has booked 2 nights in the CR with a Magic Kingdom view:lovestruc it is a special treat though,so i do understand why you would like to stay in a monorail hotel,i am looking forward to being in the park a few mins from leaving the hotel room :thumbsup2

Its just like a bus in the sky for me:rotfl2: hate it, they cram way too many people in them.
I don't mind using it at quieter times of the day but opening and closing totally dislike. I feel exactly same about the boat across also. Rather be in a car.

I totally agree. Don't choose something you don't really want and regret it once you are there.

I must admit I love the value resorts but on our last trip (4 years ago now) we stayed in a villa and although I had a good holiday I spent a lot of the time wishing I was staying on site.

I would love to stay at a monorail resort however don't think it will happen for a while hopefully we can stay at BLT sometime in the future though. I can't wait to stay at BCV and be in walking distance of epcot this year though.

I would also rather go less often and stay in a resort I am entirely happy with.

Personally I don't care for the Monorail that much - probably because they so often break down. On our last visit when we were staying at GF, we were stuck at the same place 3 times - once for over half an hour! :scared1: I get clautrophobic so it was torture for me. After that we always used the boat!

Have you considered one of the Epcot resorts? You have the Boardwalk, the Yacht/Beach Clubs and the Swan/Dolphin hotels all within a short walk of each other (or a Friendship boat ride).

You can also walk or get the Friendship boats to Epcot and Hollywood Studios. From Epcot you can get the monorail to MK and the MK resorts.

Thanks for the replies you wonderful people!

I'm feeling much better after reading your responses - especially knowing that i'm not the only one who can't really explain their love of the monorail.

So - 2010 here we come!!!!

We stayed at the Poly last year - and now can't imagine NOT spending some time at a monorail hotel!!:thumbsup2

Next year we are splitting the time between the poly and are also trying the Beach Club, so that we can experience the walk to Epcot and boat to DHS!!:thumbsup2

I am fully expecting this split stay to be our 'ideal' holiday in terms of hotel locations - which could bode for a very expensive future holiday budget!!:lmao:

This is a really interesting option!

We got DVC for the locations, SSR is near DTD and walkable, BC/BWI next to Epcot and DHS and now BLT is a few minutes walk to MK :cool1:

I agree you should stay somewhere you like, we've not enjoyed all the resorts we've stayed at but it's personal choice :thumbsup2

Sounds like we may be there at a similar time, BC is an excellent location. We love spending time on the Boardwalk :woohoo:
