Ok, so we aren't staying at a monorail resort. We are also not planning on visiting one until a day that we aren't going to the park (going to Chef Mickey's before heading to SeaWorld). If we don't ride that day, we might just hit it on the day we are leaving out. My question is, will they let us just ride a full route and not get off at the park? My little tomboy loves trains. I'm sure she will love it and I want to ride just to say we did. :rotfl: If not, I guess we can always just get off at a stop and get back in line to come to the resort right?

You can get on the monorail at any stop and ride either the whole circuit or get off at another stop. We took advantage of the quiet time and let our DD have a nap. We rode the loop a few times and when she woke up we got off at the Grand Floridian to see the Christmas decorations.

Hi there, you can indeed ride the monorail just for the sake of riding it. It's not like it's a ticketed attraction, it is a complimentary mode of transport for all Disney guests.

For a really special experience I would recommend asking one of the cast members if you can ride with the driver. The cabs take a total of 4 guests at a time and you might have to wait for a few trains as other families might also do this.

If you do get to ride in the front with the driver, ask for a co-pilots liscence, they are small cards which they can write your daughter's name on to show that she helped drive (even though she won't actually be allowed to drive for safety reasons! But they will most likely let you take a picture of her sitting in the pilots chair if you ask to.)

Also, as well as going on the Resort monorail at the MK, it is also fun to go on the monorail to Epcot as it goes around the globe (aka Spaceship Earth). Don't worry, you can get off at Epcot, go around to the station entrance and get on the monorail back to the Transportation and Ticket Centre.

Oh one last thing, if you make the cast members aware that this is a special treat for your daughter and that she likes trains and things, you never know, they might just do something to make it extra special, after all they are there to make magic!

Hope this helps :)

...and remember, you can always ride in the FRONT of the monorail on any route -- that line is generally pretty short -- AND you get a "monorail conductor certificate" when you get off (it's about the size of a business card, but still)

The monorail is a great "attraction", even for days you're not going to the parks. My daughter loves to predict which color will be next. The front car is a blast and the conductors are always nice! Have fun!!

yup the monorail lets you.

dont expect the same on the boats though:sad2: one night we took the boat from our resort to downtown. by the time we reached dd my 2 young sons had fallen asleep. so my husband decided he would let me shop:woohoo: and he would take the boys back to the resort. he was 3 people, but only taking up one seat. the driver made my husband get off the boat and get to the back of the line. totally heartless. and to make it more ridiculous the line wasnt even long enough to fill the boat, so the poor guy had to carry 2 sleeping boys(3 and 4) all the way down the dock and all the way back up the dock just ride the same darn boat.:confused3

 That is terrible and you are right, heartless. I am always amazed at stupid decisions that people make--what about customer service??

Oh jeez imthatgirl!!! That was just cruel especially with 2 little kids sleeping.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I will definitely add this to the things to do list. She is going to love it!!! What we might do is ride up front the ride to a park or something. If there is a family waiting to ride with the engineer, then let them have a turn. That way another kid can have a magical trip!
