Hi crazy Disney fans, we are at Disney right now ( yes I know you are jealous) and we are staying at the Disneyland Hotel, and the monorail fom DTD is all messed up. We tried to get on at 10 am this morning and it wasn;t running because it was 80 degrees outside and the monorail will shut down/ get stuck when the outside ambient temp is 80.... a CM told me they spent lots of money and the new monorail is a dud!!!!
Has anyone else had this experience?

I understand your frustration, but it is also for passenger safety.

The new monorails are not air-conditioned and the windows do not open for ventilation like the old ones used to. The new ones only crack up and out partially- not slide all the way open. When it gets hot in the So Cal sun, think of why you get arrested if you leave kids or pets in a parked car..... Gives you a whole new perspective. Not sure who came up with that design plan, but it wasn't the best....

They are trying to make the best of the situation they have been given. I feel bad for the folks who run the stations. They have to take the brunt of the guest response....

When we were there last month the dream wrapped older monorail was running all day (except when it broke down!) and the new red would run in the morning and evening when the temps were low enough. So usually 1 monorail was running. We did see monorail red running past our room at the GCH quite a few times.

During our trip in early/mid-August, we rode the red Mark VII on 2 different occasions in the middle of the day. The temps during our stay were consistently mid/upper 80's. I'm not sure why people are saying it won't run if it's over 80. We also rode in the tail section and the a/c was quite nice.

It's not air conditioned??? What on earth were they thinking?:confused3

That's what I read - I believe it was an Orange County Register or LA Times article. Remember - the original ones and the current Blue are NOT air-conditioned - no need with the open windows.

Nostalgia Dad - who I am conceding to - stated above that Red is air conditioned.

When I saw it last time, it was riding with it's windows cracked. Maybe that is new. In our last 2 months of visits, we didn't get a chance to ride it. We're heading down today or tomorrow, so we'll defintely try to get on and I will report back.

It is only the drivers cab in the nose cone that has air conditioning, the regular cabins just have windows that push open about 5cms at the bottom. Plus they seem to have added some kind of vents in the ceiling. When we were there last month red definately wasn't running during the middle of the day (I spent quite a while sat on our balcony at the GCH during our mid day break just watching the older dream monorail go past.)

Yep, both the nose and tail cones have AC for the benefit of the CM drivers. Wasn't that thoughtful of the engineers to think of their comfort??? The rest of us park-going swill get to sweat it out in the main cabins sitting cheek-to-cheek on a bench with a stranger. ;)

:happytv:
Why would we go to DL, when we can do that here! LOL (in AZ) :rotfl:

We went to the park yesterday - and they didn't even put it online (at least not before we left at 11:15pm). (The one thing I wanted to do for my birthday and couldn't!:sad2: )

I spoke to a CM on the platform and he indeed verified that there is only AC in the nose and tail.
