Monorail with luggage

So I was reading how luggage was not allowed on the monorail. Well My DH and I are doing a split stay between Grand Floridian villas and Bay Lake tower. We are only staying for 4 days so we are only going to have one carry on each. Do you think they would let us on the monorail with that? It's probably less than a family who has a baby with a stoller and backpack and diaper bags. Just don't want to get to the monorail and be told I can't board. Thanks!

Not sure what to tell you. Luggage is luggage. The rule is no luggage on WDW transportation, other than DME. You can try but don't be surprised if its not allowed.

You may get away with it, you may not. It will just come down to luck.

Disney will transfer your bags for you. Or you can take a cab for about $10.

I wouldn't try it. The odds are you will be told your luggage won't be allowed on the monorail. Either let Disney transfer the bags for you, or grab a taxi.

But, that's not luggage. Sure, you might have 2 carry ons, but then the next person will want to bring carry ons and a suitcase, then someone with 2 suitcases...

Disney says no luggage on the monorail, boats, or buses except DME. As the pp suggested, let bell services transfer your luggage or take a taxi.

I would take a cab. I should not cost more than $10 - $15. Cab are easily available at all the resorts.

There is also a rule against rolling bags at the parks so your likely to get stopped if your carry on bags are larger than a backpack and or roll behind you.

As pp mentioned the resort will move your bags for you! Just call bell services before you leave in the am, they will pick up your bags and tag them for delivery at the next resort. If you don't need to check in at the new resort (dining?) then head to a park for the day and return to the new resort after 3ish to check in and call for your bags. I have done this a few times and although sometimes the bags don't arrive until after 5ish I find it very convenient.

Alternately you can take a cab to the new resort but will most likely have to leave your bags with bell services anyway as I have rarely had a WDW room ready before 3ish.

I would just take a cab...the fare will be under $10, and take about 8 mins! Yes, you will have to leave the bags with Bell Services, but you would have to do that if you took them on the monorail!
If you let Disney move the bags for you, you won't have them until later in the day...around 5ish. You could possibly get them sooner since the resorts are so close, but I wouldn't bank on it.

About 3 years ago we took a disney bus when we did a split stay. We gave bell services our large luggage and took our duffle bags on the bus with us. Driver never said a word about it. Maybe it was a laid back driver, or maybe rules have changed, or maybe it's just a monorail thing. I think we will play it safe and have the bags transfered over by bells services. Thanks for the feedback.

ok.... I'll be the first to ask..... what is the difference between a backpack used as a 'carryon' and a backpack used as a diaper bag? Or a duffel used either way? It's the exact same item.

You posted that you each had a carry-on to take on the monorail. If it is an obvious piece of luggage then no, it is not the same at all as taking a back-pack the size of a park bag on board.

You are asking for us all to make a judgement. And if it looks like luggage it will not be allowed on board the monorail. If it is a small backpack or something else that looks like a park bag then you may be allowed with it on the monorail. But there is no way to guarantee that ahead of time, which is why a few of us have told you to just save any possible hassle and take a taxi, or let the resort deliver your bags.

If it is "obviously luggage" as indicated in the OP it may be stopped. If it is a backpack that someone would reasonably use at the parks then it won't get a second look.

An example....you are not allowed to bring luggage on the Mears shuttle to US/IoA. But my friend and I were heading over there for a night and two days. We had no issue getting on the bus with our backpacks. And they were good sized backpacks. I imagine it would be the same thing with Disney buses and monorails.....rolling luggage? No. Backpacks and small duffels? Yes.
