Monorail wishes

Why when Disney was building GC, did they not put a monorail station there? For that matter, why haven't they connected all the hotels to the monorail system, similar to what WDW has done with the MK family of hotels? I think that the location and set up at DLR would be perfect to have a monorail system linking the hotels and I just can't figure out why the didn't do this.

Anyway, my monorail wish would be to have a longer system with stops at each DLR hotel.

The current monorail station in DTD was at one time connected to the DLH. There were shops and restaurants and meeting rooms in a huge building between the hotel and what is now DTD. In fact one of my fave things to do back in the day was eat breakfast at the Monorail Cafe, hop on the escalator and ride the monorail into the park. I liked the way it was before and agree that at least one of the hotels should have a stop. It must not have made sense to them during construction...?

They saved money on the overall cost of building DCA/DTD/GC by not moving the monorail tracks. The DTD monorail station is exactly where it used to be, but the original Disneyland Hotel buildings were torn down. http://www.yesterland.com/dlhotel-the-end.html

Seems like they could add a GC stop in the courtyard area where the monorail tracks now run, but haven't we heard that they have bigger plans?

I would think that even if someone gifted them the money to put stops in at the hotels, with *such* a short distance between each of those stops, you'd practically have a situation where the monorail would almost be at two stops at once!

I think it would add ridiculous amounts of load/unload time, and you wouldn't get the nice smooth quick ride as you do now, and it would be really frustrating and ultimately we'd hate it.

As for a station in the courtyard at GCH, it must be weird-sounding enough now for those with rooms, but if they put in a station it would be noisier especially from the voices of people getting on and off!

I think they WERE going to put a monorail station in the courtyard of the GCH, but decided against it, either because of budget or something else. But if you look at the track & the architecture of the building, you can see where a station COULD be.

And lets not forget the Monorail is a RIDE at Disneyland. Not transportation like at WDW.

Both Molly and Christa hit the nail on the head square on... it "used to" go to the DLH in the days prior to the GC and DTD... the DTD station "used to be" the actual DLH station - the old cottages outbuildings of the hotel were torn down to make room for Rainforest Cafe, ESPN Zone and the DTD parking lot. And the various shops and many of the restaurants at the hotel were torn down to accomodate the AMC theatre, Starabilla's and LEGO.

I think that hit the nail on the head. Riding the two monorail systems in two completely different experiences. In DL it is an attraction, 3 trains with x amount of cars. I mean look at the course it takes through DL. So many twist and turns. When I rode it on my last trip (the first time I had ridden it) I was like OMG what in the world was Walt thinking. Then I had to remember, it was just a ride here. In WDW, whole other story. Here we have a form of transportation. This system was designed for mass transit. 12 trains with x number of cars and 3 different routes. They say they keep this system running at 99.9% on their good days and 98% on their bad days (I am getting a lot of this from the Modern Marvels WDW special from the History Channel). So two COMPLETELY different systems...
