Can anyone explain the monorail shutdown going on? I'm wondering if it will be partially closed down during our trip, May 7-14? Really hoping not and I'm confused by the info. I'm finding. I don't see a date when it will be all done and at 100% again.

Monorail mid day shut downs have been occurring on the express beam for almost two years now. It's not a matter of finishing a specific project but using that time for any needed maintenance and testing that needs to be done at any time. I'll link a thread below where we've been discussing thr most current time updates over on the transportation board. I'll also be happy to post the scheduled (subject to change at any point for any reason) monorail hours once they become available.

Thanks so much! I am still so confused though. I'm not sure why this is so hard for me to understand? We are staying at the Beach Club so will it be difficult to leave the MK during the day and take the monorail back to the BC for a break if this schedule remains the same for May? We normally avoid buses at all costs. We would rather take monorail from MK to Epcot to get back to the BC during the day once we are ready for that afternoon break.

If the express monorail isn't running when your ready to leave MK. You'll take either the ferry boat, or the resort monorail back to the TTC. There you will board the Epcot monorail as normal. Only the express monorail has the midday shut downs.

However your fasted option even if the proper monorails were running would the the BC bus from MK. I read you try to avoid them but it will save you 30-45 minutes...

yes, that is true, I was thinking the same. Just sometimes if we are not in a hurry, we find it more relaxing to hop on the monorails and walk through epcot to get back to BC. What is the TTC? Ticket Center? And what exactly is the express monorail? Sorry. I should know this since I've been soooooooo many times.

Yeah, I know people have their own reasons for doing something but if the goal is to efficiently get back to the room, then taking a bus during the midday when it will be filled with people going TO the park, but not so many leaving, seems the obvious solution. Not sure why you wouldn't. Once you get to Epcot, you have to walk all the way through and out the other end, and then keep walking to the resort...

TTC is the Transportation and Ticket Center (magic kingdom guest parking lot) the express monorail and the ferry boat run directly from the TTC to the MK front turnstiles. The resort monorail stops at the TTC, Poly, GF, MK, and the Contemporary in that order. The Epcot monorail runs from the TTC to the Epcot front turnstiles. All monorails run in a big circle stoping at the same stops one after another all day. The express and resort beams are parallel to one another.

And with flower and garden in full swing Epcot is quite busy this time of year...

I'm not disagreeing that the bus from MK to hotel midday is quickest. And that is what we will I'm sure, thanks, can not wait to be there :cool1:

I think this is not going away. For over two years there has been times when it is not running. I don't mind the mid-day closures it's the early morning ones that interrupt plans.

Like I said it's not a matter of finishing a specific project but rather completing general maintenance and systems testing. The early morning and evening closures are a pain, but at least they aren't doing them on a busy evening/morning (like Thursday-Saturday).
