I've just found out that during my upcoming trip in March, the monorail will be shut down Wed & Thurs from 11:30-6. My plan on a Thurs. was to go from MK to the Poly via the boat early afternoon, then walk to the TTC to take the monorail to Epcot.

Would I be better off staying at Poly to wait for an Epcot bus or walk to the TTC if they'll be provided there more frequently?

There should be a bus directly from MK to Epcot if the monorail isn't running.

Only the Express beam is scheduled to be shut down middays. The Resort beam will carry Guests between TTC & MK, as well as to the resorts. The Epcot beam should be unaffected.

All of the beams will be opening late on Mondays & Tuesdays, as they were before the holidays. Buses will replace the Resort & Epcot trains, and supplement the Ferryboat as needed.

Everything above is correct! The beam ways will also be closing early Sunday and Monday evenings. The mid day shut down process and early close/late opening has been in effect for just over a year now. Alternate transportation will be provided during the down time.

Your fastest option would be resort monorail to the TTC, disembark, then load the Epcot monorail there.

Not from the Polynesian :confused3. The resort monorail would first stop at Grand Flordian, then Magic Kingdom, then Contemporary, before the TTC. It would be faster to walk there, or wait for an Epcot bus at the resort.

That being said, their fastest option would be resort monorail to the TTC, disembark, then load the Epcot monorail there.

Your plan on Thursday is fastest for you but where are "they" starting from?

I would expect that when buses run from both Polynesian and Transportation & Ticket Center to Epcot (Epcot monorail not running), the same buses make both stops.

Thank you all for your replies. :)

I realize now that the Epcot monorail is not the one with the midday shut down. So it will not affect my plans. The plan is to intentionally take a break at the Poly before going to Epcot. Sounds like my plan A will still be the best route then.

Buses do not normally run from Poly to Epcot ...

... nor from TTC to Epcot.

Now, before someone says, "I was at Poly and saw a bus to Epcot!" --- yes, there is a situation that occurs where buses do run from the MK resorts to Epcot, but I would not recommend relying on it. It's only on days when TL is open and only between 2pm and TL closing, and may be discontinued at any time.

Again buses will be brought up as alternate transportation when the monorail system is down. Happens all the time and will happen during the scheduled down times stated above.

No, of course not normally. But this would be the alternate transportation indicated in the monorail notice.

  • The midday shutdown does not involve the Epcot beam.
  • When the Epcot beam is shutdown, there will be buses to TTC; there may or not be buses directly to the resorts.
  • If buses are running to both TTC & the resorts, they usually will be separate buses.
