How cool would it they constructed two new monorail pathways to the rest of the parks! Or would that just be a logistical nightmare? What do you think? With Avatar land opening late next year the bus system to Animal Kingdom may not cut it.

I wish they had monorail service to both. But they won't do it. Too expensive, too much red tape with the government, permits, etc etc.

Given the issues with the current monorail lines, I'd rather see them spend money on fixing the existing lines than create new ones. And even after if they did that, I'd rather see the money used in other ways than to expand the monorail. That money would be put to much better use to make improvements to Epcot and possibly expand HS.

Plus, the bus service is much more flexible and able to adjust to handle crowds than the monorail.

I agree, some park upgrades should take priority. EPCOT (non-World Showcase areas) and Hollywood Studios (the entire back of the park) are in dire need.

I love the *idea* of monorail expansion. But I'm not sure how it would look aesthetically, and agree the money could be better spent elsewhere.

Yeah I think I love the idea of it but it's true, Future World in Epcot and the backlot of Hollywood studios both need an overhaul.

I will say though Avatarland could definitely require some kind of expansion whether it be more bus lanes or a monorail.

I think they are more likely to remove the existing monorail lines than build new ones.

I agree with this. The monorail is fun, but there are much more important things that kind of money should go to.

Not to mention, they would need to add new lines for the parks which would mean even more transferring and possibly another TTC like hub. I suppose DHS could be on the Epcot line, but that would just increase travel time from MK/MK resorts to Epcot/DHS and vice versa.

According to the folks who have secret friends who work at Disney and as a result of their confidential conversations of which they can share absolutely no details, any expansion of the monorail system would cost zillions of dollars and possibly steal attention and resources from the highly profitable and extremely lucrative DVC buildout campaign that is on track to last several more decades.

Of course, that information came from the very tippity-top of Disney corporate who will remain nameless.......

:lmao:

Just so you know you're wrong. My inside connection says that a monorail expansion is in the works, and one of the first steps is to knock out those black boxes on the Swan and Dolphin so the monorail can go right through them ;).

I would say any monorail expansion is just out of the question. People have enough issues with them rolling out FP+/MDE which will make them money and allow them to control crowds at parks if they choose. I can only imagine the backlash if they invested in public transportation at the level monorail systems would require.

While it would be cool one of the things you need to keep in mind is that the monorail would need to connect to resorts like it does with the MK area.

If you go to HWS you would need to loop in Boardwalk, Yatch, Beach and possibly the S+D. If you went to AK you likely would need to loop in Animal Kingdom Lodge as well as loop in Coronado possibly for all the business groups and its on the way. Then in the end would you really leave Wilderness as the only Deluxe resort off the monorail line? or would you expand it to that resort as well?

:rotfl:

I think that the monorail would look fine at DHS but not at AK. I don't expect that either will get them though.

Everyone wants better transportation options but how much are they willing to pay for them? $5 per day? $10? $20?

Thats a good point. It would mean higher ticket prices. I would rather more attractions at Epcot, AK and HS.

I stay on site so I think the bus fees and boat fees are quarterly in the Boardwalk cost. This is part of the reason they would have to include the resorts, because it wouldn't be a ticket price thing it would be a room charge thing likely as it's primary purpose is for resort guests.

Personally, I would love it. I'm a huge fan of the monorail, but then again I've never been stuck on one like some have, so that's probably why I still like it. It's a whimsical part of Disney to me.

I imagine the permits to construct it, however, would be extensive and maddening. Not to mention, if they did that, all the resorts that would connect to the monorail would jump in price even more than they already are.
