Monorail refurb??

Hi everyone,

Haven't been here in a while but today we are 90 days out and trying to finalize our plans. We called dining to schedule Spirit of Aloha and the CM mentioned potential monorail schedule issues. Googled and am seeing some sites saying that the monorail is currently under refurbishment until further notice. Searched here on the boards and didn't find anything.

Any more info available about this? What work is being done? When it's expected to be completed?

It's been in perpetual refurb for a year or two with potential for schedule changes. If the resort monorail isn't running then they run buses and in some cases boats will still be an option depending on the route you are traveling.

I heard they were supposed to be getting new trains but I have no idea if that’s true

That would be nice, but no. It's just trying to keep the current ones going at this point.

They are getting new ones, but it will probably be several years before they are made and delivered.

Part of losing the Siemens sponsorship is they are ordering the new monorail vehicles from a different supplier. They published a concept of the new vehicles about a year ago, looking similar to current with updates. Our last trip they were working on the rail and power beams at different locations. They did add busses to the stops or from access points they had closed and seemed to come more often than the other normal route busses.

Has anyone had a recent stay at a resort on the monorail line? We will be staying at GF next month and was wondering if we will be able to take the monorail to MK as well as EPCOT. This was one of the reasons we chose GF. I was unaware of the monorail refurb. Thanks!
