Do the monorails run straight to the resorts or do you have to go to T&TC and switch monorails? When we were at WL in May we took the boat to CR once to go to Epcot and had to do that. Did we get on the wrong monorail, or is that how it always runs? We have been thinking of staying at a monorail resort next trip but found having to change to be a (albeit fun) time waster.

The monorail runs through CR, Poly, GF and the MK and the TTC. The other monorail goes from the TTC to Epcot. If you stay at the Poly then you can walk to the TTC and get on the monorail to Epcot otherwise you would need to switch at the TTC from any of the others.

Wilderness Lodge isn't on the monorail, so that is why it was a little convoluted for you. There are two monorails around the Seven Seas Lagoon. One is express between TTC and MK. The other visits all the MK resorts (except Wilderness Lodge) as well. The monorail to Epcot is a third monorail, that leaves from TTC.

The best scenario for using monorails seems to be the Polynesian, since it is sometimes closer to walk to TTC from your hotel room there than to walk to the Polynesian's own monorail station, and, of course, from TTC, you can get monorails to wherever monorails go.

ok you can go from resort to resort and MK without connecting. if you park at the TTC for MK you can take the express and if you want to go from anywhere to Epcot you need to connect at the TTC.
