Well, our son has decided he wants a monorail themed birthday party. Any ideas out there for food, decorations, games, etc.??? I plan on making him a shirt (wish they had the new one I saw last week in kid sizes), and having his monorail out for the kids/adults to play with. :) It's a family/close friends party, so not a ton of kids.

I thought about having different "stops" for food, and serving something from each monorail stop. Any ideas?

You could have a monorail trivia game and give a silly prize to the winner. I don't know a lot of monorail trivia but you could get some great questions from the wiki page. Maybe make it multiple choice to give people some help.

Here is a little piece of info I didn't know (from the Wiki page):

"'Please stand clear of the doors. Por favor manténganse alejado de las puertas.'" One of the most known phrases within the resort, it was recorded by Jack Wagner, who was known as "the Voice of Disneyland.'" In 1988 following the construction of the Grand Floridian Resort stop, Kevin Miles replaced Jack Wagner as the voiceover."

OK, let me qualify this by saying that I am NOT a professional cake decorator, but here is a picture of a monorail cake that I made for our school's cake walk last year. I baked it in a 9x13 pan, then cut it down the middle lengthwise and stacked the two long rectangles to (somewhat) replicate the monorail body. I trimmed the front to form the nose, then did the frosting details. If you freeze the cake after doing the white frosting coat, it's easier to pipe the details.

I like the idea of serving food from each monorail stop...Polynesian grilled skewers with veggies and teriyaki beef or chicken, Seven Seas punch bowl, California Grill assorted sushi, Casey's hot dogs. Not sure about the GF, maybe a Floridian-inspired fruit salad. You could even include a favorite item or two from Epcot. What a creative idea for a party theme. You could also play music from MK and Epcot, if you have it.

I love the idea of a monorail cake and the food stops. Consider having your son dress up like a monorail conductor for the party. You could also do "Pin the Monorail on the Track" in place of Pin the Tail on the Donkey. :)

Cynthia, Ian had a monorail party for his 4th birthday. Actually, he requested a "monorail black at the Polynesian" party! :faint:

I made the invitations. They had a monorail on the front and a couple of hibiscus. I used clip art for the monorail and colored the stripe. This was before the days of the Cricut! :)

For the cake..... the only edible part other than some cupcakes was the GCH. I used a Wilton cake mold and iced the cake in chocolate. The monorail stop was an angel food cake that I dried out in the oven, cut in half, put side by side, and iced in chocolate. Since he wanted the volcano pool too, I made the volcano out of a cake I tried to bake in my Pampered Chef batter bowl. The pool was made of blue icing. And the monorail was a die cast one we had that I "parked" to look like it was pulling out of the station. I also made cupcakes and iced them to look like palm trees.

We also found a t-shirt on eBay that said "Future Monorail Pilot". It's not licensed, however it was inexpensive and cute. Ian was rather upset when he out-grew it. I remember it coming in both adult and child sizes.

For the party, we encouraged everyone to dress in vacation attire. And Ian requested umbrellas for everyone's drinks.....:rolleyes1

Good luck and pixie dust to you!:wizard:

I think Mike is looking for pictures to post.......

I love this idea! Maybe you could do little tea sandwiches for the GF, since they have a lovely tea room there.

Something else fun to do would be some kind of relay race with color coded teams for the monorail colors. They could race to each monorail stop and hand off something... like a key to the kingdom or whatnot.

They also give out an "Official Monorail Co-Pilot" license when you ride in the front of the monorail. Google search it and you can find a few pics. Maybe you could do something with that for invitations or goody bags. :)

One summer I worked at the YMCA we had a train party. Now I know this is for trains but you may be able to use the same concept but change it for the monorail.

1. We laid out paper train tracks and there was a stop every few feet. At each stop the child received a train card. The card had information about different style of trains along with a picture. You could do monorail cards with each monorail being a different color and have information about WDW. Or just a picture of each colored monorail.

2. We had the kids line up like a train and follow the track to each stop. Each stop was a game that had to do with trains. So in this case each stop could have a monorail train. Nikki posted before about pin the monorail. You could also have color the monorail sheets.

3. The final stop on the track was the train station and that is where the children had coal snacks and fuel to replenish their energy. So here is where you could have the birthday cake and snacks.

4. We had a conductor class. The counselor was dressed as a train conductor. Under each child's chair there was a folder with a hat, neck cloth and a train manual. The Train manual was full of color sheets and information about different trains and train stations. So I guess you could have a small booklet about the history of the monorail. How is was built, when it was built, etc. And then have blank color sheets to color in the different monorail colors.

5. We also had a hidden train game. We hid pieces of a train around the room (on the wall, in the bathroom, nothing too hard). The engine, some train cars, and a caboose. The first child that put the train together was the winner and was given a prize. We had a sheet in the book so the child could put the pieces together, kind of like a puzzle. I think there were 6 pieces the child had to find. The car pieces we all different. Each car had a picture of an animal. So you could have pieces of monorail hidden around the house so the children could find. We actually hid enough pieces so that each kid could find their own train. Even if they weren't the first they had the whole train in their books.

I hope this helps, even just a little. Have fun.

Thanks for allthe great ideas everyone! I *might* have to attempt to make that monorail cake. :)

Christy, I wish he had given me more specificst go on! LOL sounds like you had a blast putting it all together.

Here's what I'm thinking thus far:

-Custom shirt for him to wear
-placing the monorail set somewhere for folks to play with (he will be getting the Spacesip Earth and Contemporary playsets at the party. :thumbsup2)
-stops for food:
*strawberry soup (in individual cups) from GF
*steak skewers from Poly
*hot dogs from MK
I need Epcot and Contemporary foods...any suggestions?

-I'll make custom labels to go on the plates and cups with the monorail on them.

Do you think a cake or rice krispe treats shapedlike the monorail would be easier? I could just do cupcakes and do custom toothpick toppers?

Thanks again, everyone, for all the help! In the past I've done Cars, 2 Cinderella, Woody, Toy Story, Buzz, 2 Pirates, Dumbo, Princess and the Frog, and Nemo. I don't use the store bought stuff...I like to do it myself. :confused3. Those were all a bit easier than this! :rotfl:
