hi.we are planning to take abreak one of the afternoons and goto Trader Sams. we will be going during off season (January).

how long would it take approx. to go from getting on the monorail and into Trader Sams?

while on the subject of stepping out of the park to eat....how long would it take from say GRR to goto Whitewater snacks to grab nachos?

Two of my favorite places to go.

In the afternoon at Disneyland the Monorail like shouldn't be to long.
Probably going to be a 5-10 minute wait. Then another 10 minute ride. Plus a 5-10 minute walk depending how fast you walk.

White water snacks is probably a 5 minute walk from the Grizzly River attraction.

maybe 20-30 minutes depending on wait times and walking speeds.

GRR to WWS 90-120 seconds. Really Really close.

I've never been to Trader Sams, never even seen it actually. Is this an actual bar or are kids allowed inside as well?

Trader Sam's Enchanted Tiki Bar part of/next to Disneyland Hotel. Kids allowed in there up until 8 pm but obviously not allowed to sit AT the bar.

hi StyledSugar. I have never been there before, but heard lots about it on the Dis Unplugged. Kids are allowed there until 8.
the bar is enchanted, when adults order certain alcoholic drinks, certain special effects happen.

check out their menu on the Disneyland website.

Assuming you are at the Tomorrowland monorail station already and there is not a long line since it is off-season, about 20-25 minutes. Figure:

  • 10 minutes to wait for/board the monorail;
  • 5 minutes to travel to the Downtown Disney station; and
  • 10 minutes to debark and walk west to DLH and then south through the courtyard to Trader Sam's.

This is my co-favorite monorail use of all (tied with monorailing it to Earl of Sandwich.)

How long of a walk is it from park entrance to Trader Sams?

There isn't an easy answer to this question because it depends on how fast you walk and, according to how tired your feet are from trudging around Disneyland, how fast you can or care to walk. You also have to factor in walking time to the main gate.

But assuming you're at the main gate already, I'd say about 15 minutes to walk from the main gate to Trader Sam's. PPs have said 8 to 10 minutes, but you would need to walk briskly and thread through/around people to make that happen. It is not a straight-line walk through Downtown Disney--the path/buildings meander--and as a consequence people meander, too. I can do it as a vet, but it's not the most pleasant walk to power your way through DTD.

I agree with mikedoyleblogger! I'll also add that taking the monorail to DTD and walking to TS's from there is generally more laid back and relaxing than trying to power walk through the park and DTD. The monorail station is actually quite close to DLH so you don't go through much of DTD to get to Trader Sam's from the monorail station. There may or may not be a large difference in time between walking and taking the monorail, but it can feel a whole lot different, especially if you're trying to walk against crowds or if a parade is going on etc. There's a huge difference if your feet are tired :)

Obviously to those who live in WA, as that's our rule.

Not sure of CA rules. But I recently found out that in FL kids can actually sit AT the bar, at least in WDW (and since WDW isn't actually its own kingdom, I'm going to assume that it's allowed in FL). So it wouldn't be obvious to a WDW-expert. :)

And that's the important part, that you aren't walking 10 minutes *back* in the park just to get to the monorail station. Because that 10 minutes walking could have been spent continuing forward to/through DTD.

Walking from the gate is about the same distance you'd walk to Goofy's or PPH. I can do it in under 10 min if I hustle, and don't encounter crowds in DTD, but I'm usually don't have a reason to hustle like that. I think that the monorail will take longer than 5 min though. I think it's probably closer to 10 just for the trip, plus the waiting time at the station, which might be 10-20 depending on how many trains are running.

Consider the size of your group at Trader Sam's. There's only about 3-4 tables that accommodate 4 people, and there's no room to put tables together inside. There's also only 1 table where you can put a fifth seat on the end. If you have a large group you will be more comfortable outside.

Good point. It helps to plan to end your DL session in Tomorrowland if you plan to take the monorail to DTD. Otherwise you just add needless extra walking.

I'll head others off at the pass and say the Disneyland Railroad is not necessarily a good option to take you from wherever else you are in the park to the monorail, either. If the trains have short headways and the park isn't crowded, then maybe. But if the park/trains are crowded, it can take you a Very Long Time.

For the heck of it I tried once to take the RR from Town Square to the monorail to get to DLH instead of just walking. It added a solid half an hour, and then I had a monorail wait. So sometimes no matter how tired you are, it's still better to walk through DTD.
