Monorail Drink-A-Thon

WLL, have fun and please let us know how you liked OKW. As a new DVC member, I'm very interested in any opinions on the DVC resorts. I'll be staying at a studio in SSR for the 1st time for Memorial Day weekend and we're so excited! This DVC thing has allowed me to plan 3 mini vacations this year, including 5 nights at a 1-br villa for my birthday. Plus we stayed for a weekend at ASMu and we're going Mother's Day to the Poly (we've always wanted to stay there and decided to do it since from now on we'll probably be staying at DVC resorts only).

Like robinb, we usually drink our frosty beverages out of our resort mug...

Have fun!

Just want all the lushes to know that I have my Captain Morgan Rum, club soda, limes and cans of beer (beer is for DH) all ready for the pool tomorrow! We will get to OKW early and we know the room may not be ready, so we are planning on lounging by the pool. I will have drinks at the resorts when we go out to dinner at night (I like martinis, but don't plan on mixing them up poolside LOL) Will they give me a hard time about making drinks at the pool? Can we take a cooler to the pool? I purposely bought CLEAR Capt Morgan Spiced rum, so as not to alert people to the fact that I am indulging in an alcoholic beverage...PLUS, I am putting it it a empty evian bottle. Am I clever or what? I bought the beer in cans, cuz I am sure they do not want glass by the pool. Oh, and BTW...weather report says 60% chance of rain. :sad2: That is not cool, dude! LOL!

We are even sneakier and mix our drinks in soda cans! At POR, we would take beers down to the pool that we had brought with us, nicely iced in our room ice bucket, and no one ever said a thing to us. (I just can't see paying for one beer at the pool what I could buy an entire six-pack for, cheapskate that I am!)

i totally understand that i'm SLOW...lol..but did someone say they got their husband a golf lesson??? I'm totally interested in that (would get my DH off my huimp for a few) can someone PM me with the # to the course so i can set one up? thanks!!!

Ok, we leave in one hour, so I need to make this quick! :cool1:

Ginagrumpy-You can PM me if you would like to, but you can set up the golf lesson thru CRO! There is an official WDW site that has a golf page. I am sorry, but I do not know how to provide links. My DH is going to be so surprised!

aiden's mom-Thanks for the tip! If our room is close to the pool, it will not be a problem. But we do have a mini cooler with us, and like I said...I put the rum in a water bottle, so I think we should be ok!

Cristy-I am jealous of all the WDW trips you have planned! I will be paying close attention to OKW so I can give you a full report!

Robin-Thanks for the quick answer. Yes, maybe we will walk there. I never thought of the lounge at SSR...that would be cool.

The beer bong was what I suspected...thanks for the picture! In these parts, we just call it "funneling!"

Ok, all...I will do my lushes proud! Be Back in a few days! :wave2:

WLL- Have a great time in the world! And we also call it a funnel up by me. I think there are way too many negative connotations with calling it a beer bong but hey people call it what they want.

As for DVC. My family has been DVC members for a few years now and we love it. I personally have stayed at OKW, BWV, and BCV. So if you have any questions please feel free to ask me! I usually stay in a a studio. You get a microwave, a toaster, so plastic and paper untensils/plates/cups. There is a little coffee maker, a small fridge (like one you would see in a college dorm). You can also fill out a form and have them stock your room wtiht the groceries you would like, but we always just take Tiffany towncar and stop at the store on the way.

Thanks PD! Our trip was great! I was worried about the weather, but it held up nicely. I actually like it when it is overcast, cuz I try not to get too much sun!

We checked into OKW at about noon, and our room was ready...room 4620. It was a corner room with a great view of a pond and wooded area. Very quiet. Close to a quiet pool. I liked OKW, and for $100 a night it was a great value, but if I were to stay there again, I would want to be closer to the main pool/restaurant/gift shop area. I just felt TOO far away. I mean, the main area was within walking distance, but not really. But I am not complaining about the resort...there was really nothing to "not" like. It is just that when I leave the WL, I am almost in tears, I love that place that much!

So Sunday after check in we went to the quiet pool, which is actually a bit too quiet! There were two other couples there, and two young kids. There was no music piped in. I had a cooler with cans of beer for DH and an Evian bottle filled with Capt Morgan (the clear one...I just discovered Capt Morgan makes a clear spiced rum.) I also had club soda and limes so I mixed my own drinks. We had quite a righteous buzz going, and then went back to the room for a nap.

We went to DTD. Had drinks at the lounge at Fulton's (same things we were drinking at the pool) which was a great place...good atmosphere, not too crowded. But dinner at Fulton's was terrible. I posted a review on the restaurants board...I wish I knew how to post a link. If anyone can do that for me, I would appreciate it. It is on the first page right now. The service was not too good and the food was not only terrible but a small portion also. We paid $70 for a Crab and Lobster Feast for two and it was a total rip off.

Monday morning we had the breakfast buffet at Fresh in the Dolphin. I have heard so many great things about the breakfast here, and I was disappointed once again. I did not like the set up. It is not a true buffet but you walk up to the egg station and get omelettes or eggs any way you like them. There is also a line for pancakes and french toast. It is confusing, with a lot of people waiting in the wrong lines, the cooks being rather brusque and unfriendly, and overall I did not think the selection was so great. Lots of pastries and fruit which just makes me think of a continental breakfast. I ordered eggs over easy, but then could not find any toast, only to find out you have to order that from your server. Well, by the time my toast came out, my eggs were cold. there was no one manning the ham and turkey station where they are supposed to carve it for you. i amde 3 trips and never saw anyone there. the guy that ran the egg station next to it was so rude that i was scared to ask him for the meat. DH and I ate at Perkin's on our to Orlando, and it was a WAAY better value at $7.99 for an all you can eat buffet.

BTW...for anyone in South FL...on Sundays ONLY, at the Holiday Inn just 5 seconds east of the Lake Worth exit, Perkin's has an all you can eat breakfast buffet that is phenomenal. Eggs Benedict, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage (patties and links) shredded hash browns and fried diced potatoes, pancakes, muffins, danishes, soft biscuits with sausage gravy, and grits. One time we were there, there was also salmon. It is QUITE A DEAL!

Ok, back to my trip report...after breakfast, we walked around the Dolphin and Swan, Y&BC, Boardwalk..etc and checked stuff out. We went inside Blue Zoo (at the Dolphin...or is it the Swan?) and LOVED the atmosphere. We are going to eat there next trip, or at the very least have a cocktail in the beautiful lounge. That afternoon, we went to the main pool at OKW. There was more activity there, good music playing. We nibbled on wings and conch fritters from the little walk up counter. They were great!

That night, we went to Epcot and rode Test Track twice (we loved it! Our first time riding it!) and then went to Rose and Crown for drinks. I had a dirty martini (Ketel One) and DH had Crown Royal on the rocks...a double. Do you guys know it is WAAAY cheaper to order a double? I was shocked at the bill. I ordered a martini which was $7.25, and then there is a 75 cent upcharge for Ketel One.

Then DH ordered
Whiskey-$6
crownroyal (upcharge)-1.75
double-$1.25.

This is how it appeared on the bill. I truly thought they would charge us for two shots. The only reason he ordered a double was so he didn't have to keep going up to the bar to order another drink. He was willing to pay for 2 shots. So I thought that was a nice tip to share with my fellow lushes, as this was news to me!

Oh, and the bonus was we used our DDE card there, also!

Ok, then after drinks we had an 8:50 PS for Le Cellier. Wow, that place was great! I had another dirty martini and DH switched to beer. Igain, I have written a review and if anyone would post the link, I would be grateful!

Ok, I will post about the last day later...I need to get to the grocery store! The last day we ate breakfast at Olivia's and I gave DH his surprise anniversary gift...a videotaped golf lesson at the Palm! He loved it!

Ok, thanks for listening to me relive my trip. Isn't that really what trip reports are all about? :earboy2:

Welcome back, WLL! You have to come back and tell us about the golf lesson. I'm sorry to hear you didn't like Fulton's. I've been wanting to eat there for a long time since I've heard some many good reviews.

I'm in Orlando now (stayed at my mom's last night) and we'll be going to the Poly around 10:30 to check-in. We didn't make any requests, so I'm hoping that if we go early, I'll be able to get a good room. Plus, we want to hang out at the pool.

I'll post a trip report when I get back.

Happy Mother's Day!

Have fun Cristy! If you go to Fulton's, i am curious to hear about your experience. Please check out my review, and also all the people who commented!

WLL - ive missed you! i hope everythihng has been awesome for ya! just read your review and it sounds good 8) now we know not to hit up fultons! :P

Ahhhhhhhhh! I have missed youuuuuu! come back! tell us about your Feb trip...and you are staying at the CR in June for Meli's Bday???? What dates?

It was so good to "see" you on this thread...i think about you often...you and meli are PARTY ANIMALS! So check in with us more often, ok?????

everytime i have a drink at the world i always think about you too! :3dglasses

the feb trip was a quickie, since melissa came down for my brothers wedding (and stayed at the boardwalk for 2 nights) and she missed her flight (we tried to stay a 3rd night at the contemporary, ended uip going home) we decided to take another trip in feb before she left. did a one nighter and it was fun...honestly, like everyone else, we're never doing non-concierge again. we sat at the lounge for atleast 2 hours in the afternoon drinking all the free beer and it was absolutely awesome! after the drinkage we hit up epcot and it was just too much awesomeness to try to describe :)

anyways, everything is good here, ive just been really busy but ill be checking in more often, send me a PM sometime...

i think we're doing the june trip on the first weekend 3-5 and might take some friends this time, are you planning a june trip?

take care! :)

We just got home.... What a wonderful weekend.... We drove up on Friday night and stayed at hotel Momanddad... I like it there a lot... it's like concierge ;) They had dinner ready and waiting for us.

Next morning, I got up early and gave my mom a nice manicure (yes, I can be nice too) so she could have pretty nails for her upcoming cruise (they left today). My sister arrived and we went to the Poly around 11:00 am. The valet who took care of us (Herbert) was wonderful (he got a really fat tip) and while DH took care of the bags, I went to check in. I had not requested anything special (other than nonsmoking) but I asked Singh if there was a 3rd floor room at Fiji facing the marina (I told her I could wait for it) and she told me yes! and the room was ready! So, Herbert grabbed one of the bellmen and commanded him (yep, he did!) to take our stuff to our room pronto and to give us a tour of the resort in the golf cart. So we drove around the resort while our driver gave us the tour, unloaded the bags (another nice tip for him) and we decide to go eat lunch at Kona Cafe. My DH ordered a Mai Tai and I ordered a Corona. Oh, and we ate too... ;) That Kona coffee was incredible!

We went back to the room and changed to go to the pool. Oh, by the way, our room had a wonderful view (I'll post pix later). We go downstairs, walk by the marina and decide to rent a boat before going to the pool. We hopped on the 17" Montauk and off into the lake we went. DH, of course, had never driven a boat before so my sis, DD7 and I suffered incredible stress for the first 15 minutes, until he got the hang of it... yikes, it was scary.... but then he got the hang of it and we were able to relax, whew! After our 1/2 hr was up, we headed to the volcano pool. Boy, was it crowded! My DH and I went on the slide (pretty cool) and then DH and her did it a few times. My sis and I just hung out for a while. Then, DH and I decide to get a frosty beverage at the Barefoot bar (beer for both of us... I had the Amber Bock, DH had corona and we walked hand in hand on the beach and sat on a swing watching the water... very romantic  (while sis played with DH in the pool).

Around 4 pm we go back to our room since we needed to start getting ready for our 6 pm PS at Portobello Yacht Club. Sis goes home to get dressed too. We then meet up with my sis, brother, mom, and dad at the restaurant and we get seated within 10 minutes. Andy, our server, was great, and the food... wow, this restaurant is just incredible. My dad ordered a Chardonnay, my sis a Merlot, and DH and I ordered the pitcher of italian sangria (they call it vino fruta)... very yummy. Our appetizers were bruschetta and calamari... both excellent (even DD liked the calamari). For dinner, we all opted for something seafood.... I had the King Salmon with wilted spinach and aioli... unbelievable dish... DH and sis had grouper with spaghettini a la vodka... also excellent. Mom had pasta with shrimp, scallops and clams in a pink sauce, another unbelievable dish and my brother and dad had the scallops and shrimp with some kind of risotto; DD had pizza. Every single dish was incredible. I can't say enough about the quality of the food and service we experienced. Definitely on our must-come-back list.

Next morning, I invited mom and sis for breakfast at Ohana's. It was ok, but not great. Our server was not very good and the food was alright. I did love the characters, though.... They gave me and my mom a carnation for mother's day. Very nice. Mom and sis went home and DH, DD and I decided to go to Epcot. We walked across the resort to the TTC to hop on the monorail. I asked if we could go in the front and they said we could do it on the next train. So we waited about 8 minutes and rode in the front. That was really cool! At the end, the operator gave us each a little card declaring us "Monorail Copilots" way, cool.... :)

We wanted to ride Soarin' so we head on over to The Land to get a fast pass. Stand by time was 75 minutes. Fast pass wait was 3 hours, but we get our fast passes and cross over to Mission Space (5 minute wait). We then went to Innoventions (we hadn't been there in many years) to pass the time. My DD loved the different games and activities. She even made paper! We stopped for a snack and coffee at the bakery and then headed back to The Land. We really enjoyed Soarin'... definitely a cool ride. We were hungry and ate right there at Seasons. They've totally revamped that space and changed the menu. We like it much, much better. DH and I had a turkey sandwich with munster cheese and chipotle butter. YUM! I had also a sweet potato soup (ok, but not great) and DH had the mushroom soup (very good). We used one of those free lunch coupons you get when you go on the DVC tour, so we also could get a free dessert. I chose the key lime pie and the worms in dirt for DH. If you go there, skip the "key lime" pie... it was terrible. First of all, it did not look like key lime. Second, it did NOT taste anything like key lime pie... it was more like a lime meringue (not like custard) with a whipped topping that had been torched (like in a meringue pie). Ugh, we couldn't eat it.

We were tired by then and went back to the room to rest for a few hours. After a nice nap, we showered and dressed to go to the California Grill for dinner. Got there at 8:45 and we were seated right away. We then proceeded to the terrace to watch the fireworks. That was really great... We ordered a bottle of wine (and then regretted it, cuz after one glass we decided we didn't like the wine, my poor DH had to drink most of the bottle cuz I wouldn't touch the stuff after the 1st glass... what an idiot... should have sent it back after the first taste... $49 wasted... well, not really, since DH drank it). We both had the asparagus soup for the appetizer (very good) and decided to share the grouper in shrimp risotto. Wow, another incredible dish. It was delicious. It made up for the bad wine and bad server... she was totally mediocre (but then, she recommended the wine, so that didn't make her earn any brownie points either). DD had pizza. For dessert, DD ordered rice crispies sushi and we had the apple pagoda with cinnamon ice cream. The kid's dessert was darling.... Imagination at its best.... they took 2 red gummy worms and wrapped rice crispies mix around them, wrapped in a fruit rollup and cut round like a california roll. It came with 3 of those and 3 rectangular ones topped with a red gummy in the shape of a fish. Brilliant presentation. She loved it. Our dessert was another winner. Apples wrapped in a crepe topped with a cookie, layered to look like a pagoda, served with creme fraiche and cinnamon ice cream. We devoured it.

This morning I woke up early and packed while my sleeping beauties, well... slept. After packing, I woke them up, got dressed and went to Kona Cafe for breakfast. DH and I ordered the Tonga Toast I've heard so much about.... my oh my.... it was delicious!!!! Note to self: come back to Kona for breakfast! Then it was checkout time :(

Overall, we loved the Poly and had an absolutely great time. It's our new favorite resort (Sorry WWL, the Poly bumped WL out of my #1 spot).

Sorry for the long post, but I figured my fellow lushes would want to know...

Aww, I was looking forward to trying Fulton's this time around.
Oh well, I guess that leaves us no choice but to party it up at Cali Grill again :earboy2:

Heehee I'm looking forward to my birthday celebration :cake:

nerdy Minnie...are you who I THINK you are? welcome! Post more often, since your other half is too busy for us!

Ahhhh...I PMed ya...a june trip is a possibility for us...we have seasonal passes and the blackout date is June 11-Aug 18, so I need to get there quick...but we will probably go during the week as DD gets out of school May 26 so i want to take advantage of that.

Cristy-I loved your TR! I felt like I was there! really, you feel THAT strongly about Poly? the theming (oh, and PRICE TAG) never really appealed to me, but maybe I will have to try it sometime! Please post pics, or even PM me and I will give you my email addy. i would love to have someone to sway WDW pics with, as most of my friends are sick of seeing my dis pics!

I loved Portobello's last time I went, and I wish I would have went there instead of lousy Fulton's on our DTD night! Your meal sounded awesome! i remember not being too impressed with breakfast at O'Hana's also. Cool about the monorail ride...we did that on our first WDW trip as a family and I still have the cards in my wallet. They make me smile everytime I see them. We have tried every time we go to WDW to sit in the front, but we have not been successful again. :(

I want to try Kona for breakfast, keep hearing such great things!

Yikes...I am running late to pick up DD from school. I promise to post about DH's golf lesson soon!

if not, then she has a lot of explaining to do for following me around at the world! ;)

i replied already, lookin forward to hearing from ya! :earsboy:

Yes yes it is me...the other lush :goodvibes

Kona is an awesome spot for all meals....but especially breakfast. Last time we were there we had a pretty clumsy waiter who spilled both our mimosas (it's never too early) on DF. I wasn't upset one bit...thought it to be quite funny :teeth: plus we got a free breakfast, and who can get mad at a free breakfast ;)

Long live the poly! :earboy2:

Hope to see you in June WLL!
