Monorail Drink-A-Thon

I am looking for your wisdom - which resort bars should I visit? Are there any specialty drinks at any of them that I should plan to enjoy?
Personally, I like the Victoria Falls lounge in the Animal Kingdom Lodge. It's on the 2nd floor and overlooks Bomas. It seems to hang in the air as it is one floor below the main lobby and one floor above the restaurants. It is very open and airy with comfortable chairs. We like to get to the AKL early for our PS and catch a drink there. I also like dirty martinis there, but mine is made with Bombay Sapphire gin. There are plenty of public viewing areas for the animals, so you could easily spend an hour exploring the resort before your cocktail.

Another place that looked really interesting was the bar at the Todd English's Blue Zoo at the Dolphin. We ate dinner at the restaurant in December (only so-so food, but the service was great) and thought the bar looked like a great adult hide out. It is very modern looking and retro at the same time. This restaurant really belongs at the Contemporary!

Where are you all at? Am I the only one who gets to stay home on a sat. night? Still looking forwad to hearing all of the wisdom, excuse me, magic out there!

Nah - I'm home, too. Planning and chatting. Both Disney, of course.

Still working on my Drink-A-Thon plan of action.

The drink-a-thon sounds like a blast! DH is too much of a lightwieght thou!
We haven't been to DW since 1994 and just can't wait! The monorail lounges sound great too, I am already thinking of booking another "adults only" trip!!

WOOHOO. end of May. It really isn't that long...is it?? Jeez, can't stand waiting already, but, do want to shed the winter warmth fat before vacation!!

Yes. My tip ... don't! Hard liquor bottles would probably be OK wrapped up in clothes. But beer ... I wouldn't do it. The holds are not pressured or heated the same as the regular cabin. Just stop at a grocery store on your way to your hotel. If you're not staying a place with a fridge, you'll want to pick up a styrofoam cooler anyway to keep the brewskis nice and cold :).

ETA: Welcome :).

If you are flying in, take Happy Limo for your transportation--they provide you with a 15 minute grocery store stop for free!!!! I LOVE them!

WLL- The WL really is beautiful, I figured it would give my BF a great impression of Disney; besides, the more he likes it, the sooner we can go back!! :teeth: We are going two days after our college graduation; it'll be our first vacation together, and he hasn't been since he was six, so most everything will be new to him!!

The lounge at the WL is the Territory Lounge, right? The last time I was there I was underage, so it wasn't important to me :p What is your favorite beverage there?

Miss Mouse--I had a similiar experience with my boyfriend. I had just taken the bar exam and needed to get away. I took him down there and he hadn't been to WDW since he was 9. I was SO nervous...If he hadn't LOVED it, I think we would have been in trouble:) But he LOVED it and now we don't go anywhere else...we're currently planning our WDW Wedding!!! :cloud9:

Hi Codie! Did you see my post a few pages back...I did the DVC tour and we were SOOOO close to buying in. I know we will eventually, just don't have the $$ right now. :( I hope you do get married at WDW. I wish I would have looked into that, but when I got married 8 years ago, I was not "into" WDW. I was invited to a wedding there in Jan 1999 but I had my baby (DD now 6) just days before the wedding and there was no way I could make it! Makes me sad, cuz I don't know if I'll ever be invited to another WDW wedding. Guess I have to start planning my DD's! LOL!

Welcome EP###!!!

I also ate dinner there and stopped at the bar at the end of the night. I had a dirty Grey Goose (The only thing the French are good for) martini. The drink was excellent and very large. If I remember correctly it was 7 or 8 bucks. Not too bad for great atmosphere, vodka and size.

That is good to know, blackliliy. I would be afraid to go there to have a drink cuz I would have been sure that a martini at Blue Zoo would cost a lot more than that. So I will put that on my "to try" list!

ETA: Try that Hangar One Vodka made in the good old USA...California, to be exact. They don't carry it everywhere, but I was amazed at how many places in the World have it. It blows Grey Goose away!

YEAHHHHH! My boyfriend, whoops, I mean fiance, finally picked a date for the wedding and we took an emergency trip to Disney last weekend to pick the location of our wedding. We will be getting married at the Atlantic Dance Hall. We are so excited to bring all our family down to disney for the wedding. We enjoyed quite a few drinks on our trip as a result of all the planning...
I had a Blue Bay Bomber (think that is right) at Narcosees...I think the bartender made it wrong. It was supposed to have malibu rum and I think it just had regular rum--I wasn't a huge fan. I had an Irish Red brew at Big River on the Boardwalk--very tasty, especially after our 2 hour fishing trip. AND the best drink of all was the Endless Summer at Wolfgang Puck's--downtown...I drank two and was begging for a third before our meal came!

Yay Codie! Congrats on setting the date! :Pinkbounc May I ask when? You can PM me with that date if you would like.

Ok, dumb, dumb question coming...is Atlantic Dance Hall at Boardwalk? :confused3 Why am I not familiar with it? Any pics I can see of the place?

OK..the most important question...WILL THERE BE AN OPEN BAR AT THE RECEPTION??? LOL...inquiring minds wanna know! :rotfl:

What is in the Endless Summer? Did you enjoy your dinner at WP?

I still have my ressie at POFQ ..now for our actual anniversary, May 1-3 (Sun-Tues.) But we are trying to rent points at a DVC studio. Our first choice is BWV...but apparently there are NO studios to be had Sunday night at any DVC resort except SSR and OKW. So we are thinking OKW (10 points) rather than SSR (12 points.) Any opinion on that? But if we can get BWV for 11 points a night, we should snatch that up, yes?

I'm also interested in the contents of the Endless Summer!

So, I'm finalizing plans for my solo trip in...17 days!! Can't wait. If anyone can give me advice on specialties to drink at any of the following places, I would be very interested. These are the places I intend to visit:

Wilderness Lodge pool
Olivias
Spoodles
Trails End
O'hana
Chefs de France
Cape May
Jellyrolls
Prime Time Diner
Sci Fi Diner
anyplace at Epcot
anyplace at Animal Kingdom

I am actually getting excited about a solo trip. Originally, I was feeling some trepidation, but I have received a lot of support from the Boards! I had originally planned to only go to the parks a couple of times during my solo days, awaiting my daughter's arrival. However, with encouragement, I've decided to purchase a seven-day expiring park hopper, and go to the parks for at least a short time every day. After all, I only added a couple of bucks to add days, if I went expiring. Pretty decent deal.

I welcome any advice for my trip!! I will be there April 4-10 (but alone April 4-7). :earsgirl:

Hi DH! I am not really "into" specialty drinks. I usually stick with my usual Dirty Martinis or chardonnay. But I did have a delicious rum concoction called a "lumberjack" at the WL pool bar (Trout's Pass.) I hope Stewart is tending bar. He made a great drink!

I love the lounge at AKL (Victoria Falls.) I really liked the little snack mix they have there. It is called snack mix with "afritude" or something like that. Went really well with the drinks.

have fun and I hope you post here with a full report!

Oops -- that's exactly right. Man, moving from coast to coast has me all confused. That's right -- there is no place to get booze in MK as far as I'm aware.

Wow -- that's almost as bad as when I was 6 hours late for a conference call because I calculated the time difference in reverse.

Hence why DH started the family tradition of calling the MK "The Dry County"! :rotfl2: :rotfl:

So happy I found this thread. I am planning my sisters bachelorette party from June 23 - 27th. There are nine "girls" planning to attend, so I think a drink around the World or a monorail marathon would be appropriate! It will be my first adults only trip in six years since my DD was born . Any other suggestions would be welcomed. We are all between 34 - 40 years old, so nothing too "young"! :)

The date is September 1st!! And we haven't totally decided on the bar, but no cash will be accepted! The atlantic dance hall is on the Boardwalk between the Boardwalk and Yacht Club sort of in front of swan/dolphin. There are pictures (but not very good) at the disneyweddings.com site. I called WP's and asked for the recipe for endless summer...it was rum, watermelon pucker, peach schnapps, grenadine, and pineapple juice (I might be missing something there but I think that is it.)...we LOVE eating at WP's--we eat there every time.

BWV is the best but after that OKW is very nice and well worth the trip. I haven't stayed at SSR, but it should be very nice since it is all brand new. WE went over there for the grand opening and it seemed very, very nice!

Let me know where you land!!
