Monorail crash at Epcot last night, 1 driver killed!

That is a shocking sight.
And as someone pointed out it is such a relief that no families had chosen to ride up front with the driver.
Thoughts go out to the drivers family and anyone else involved.

I wonder if this will affect families being allowed to travel upfront in future? Although its shocking losing a CM this would have been 5 times worse with a family in there.

i would also have thought there was some sort of failsafe mechanism...
i guess not...

There is a "fail-safe" mechanism but, as Kevin said, it would appear something went wrong with it.

No point speculating until all the details are known but I wonder if this is a case of "holes in the cheese lining up".

I can see Disney not allowing families up front and/or families not wanting to ride up front for a very long time.

thanks for the link..

i guess time will tell what happened - mechanical failure or human error....

OMG we have just seen it on FOX news on sky. Our thoughts are with the driver and his poor family at this time.:grouphug:

What a tragedy :( Thinking of all involved in this awful accident.

Awful to see and I'm shocked to hear about this :sad2:

My thoughts are with the CM's family, friends and everyone at Disney who's lost a fellow employee and friend  Sad times for them.

I hope all the holiday-makers are okay too, must have been awful shocking for them.

My thoughts are with the family and the people that are dealing with clearing it up it must be so sad and very frightening to have seen this sight

The BBC are reporting this story now. Although typically they have the details wrong! They are stating it happened at the MK instead of the TTC on the Epcot loop .

How shocking, i am one of those stupid people whp watch stuff online without really thinking first - I wish I hadn't clicked the link to the video. So just think before you click and watch. I am feeling slightly guilty for watching it and also a little appalled that when they knew there was someone in trouble someones first thought was to film it :(

You're not alone Mel, I watched it with the same feelings. Even though they didn't know at the time the driver had died I still don't think they should have been filming, and yes I know I'm a hypocrite for watching it and saying that - morbid curiosity I suppose :confused3.

Very sad :(

Although the video shows a very tragic situation it may help in the investigation, as no doubt by the time investigators get there the trains will have been damaged further and parts moved by the emergency services.

DH has just come in from work and told me about this I thought there would just be picture of the monorail but seeing them actually trying to talk to the driver who we know is dead was quite upseting. Really wish I hadnt seen it:sad2:

first of all, there was general confusion at the time, so no one knew what was flying....you can see they're all a bit slow to react....

second, about the taping..

i'm sure the investigators will be very happy to have that videotape to look at...

no doubt there are also security cameras in the area, but that film will certainly help them to know exactly what the trains looked like before the trains were cut open to release the driver...and to see exactly what state the passengers were as they got off the train that was hit...

i wouldn't have filmed it, but that's mostly because i never film anything and rarely take pictures, even when there's a camera in my hand...
but i'm not going to criticize the guy for doing it....some people just automatically start to photograph whatever they see....in order to document it....it's a reflex...without thinking about it..

I do agree that the film will be made use of, I did watch it and I know I am therefore hypocritical, I just wanted to warn others that when you watch *knowing* that the guy they are trying to talk to is either dead, or worse dying as you watch that it is quite disturbing.

I take on board that some people record or film everything by way of documenting things. i guess it comes down to personality. I am an avid photographer and on photography forums I am someone who defends the right of people to photograph what they like in public, however I personally would be uncomfortable photographing something like a car crash while the emergency services were working (I would make a terrible paparazzi!) and I would feel the same about a monorail crash when there are people clearly saying that someone is still trapped inside.

Anyway, not wishing to offend anyone, just warn people that it could be upsetting when you see it.

Put a little warning on my post to read thru these posts before deciding on watching it. I considered removing it if its going to offend but anyone can watch it with a quick Google or following earlier links.

This is so tragic, DH and I are in shock. Our thoughs are with the drivers family
