Monorail crash at Epcot last night, 1 driver killed!

That's awful.

I always thought there were multiple safety systems in place to prevent this sort of thing. Something has obviously gone seriously wrong.

Kev

terrible terrible...
and i'd completely forgotten that it was the 4th of july - which i guess explains why the very late running train (at 2 am)...

how horrible...

How tragic for the driver's family. Thank goodness a family wasn't riding up front.

(On a practical thought, it must be chaotic getting to the parks today if the monorail has been closed for investigations.)

i was thinking the same thing - especially for the monorail resorts...

Like kevin I honestly thought something like this could never happen and thank god it wasn't a busier time of day. will be very interested to read how this occurred, and my heart goes out to that family.

and yes i imagine on a holiday weekend to have no monorail running is going to be a nightmare but rather they investigate this fully than another incident right now. Jeez, i am stunned by this!

How very sad. My thoughts to the drivers family & friends. :sad1:

i would also have thought there was some sort of failsafe mechanism...
i guess not...

how many monorails do they have?

even if they're put back into servce, they'll be down 2....which has to be a problem in the peak summer season...

and if they don't re-open it quickly, those monorail resort people are going to complain (i can just hear them now)..

anyway, what a tragedy for that driver's family....terrible terrible...
he had to be cut out of the wreckage...seems it would take a bit of speed to do that...
could he have fallen asleep? since it was so late...

Watching this live this morning and my thoughts go out to the driver's family.
Reports suggest that 5-6 guests (including young children) were on the trains.

That's shocking, so sad.:sad1: thoughts to the drivers family.

That is a shocking sight.
And as someone pointed out it is such a relief that no families had chosen to ride up front with the driver.
Thoughts go out to the drivers family and anyone else involved.
