How are the Counter Service restaurants at the monorail resorts? We're staying at Bay Lake Tower at CR, so we plan to try Contempo Cafe for breakfast and lunch/dinner. Wondering if we should also try Captain Cook's at the Poly and Gasparilla Grill at GF while we're staying nearby. We ate at Gasparilla Grill about 9 years ago and wasn't super memorable in a good or bad way, but wondering if it's worth the stop for the variety this time. I've also read about the Tonga Toast available at Captain Cook's, so we might try that. How is lunch/dinner food at Captain Cook's? Any thoughts are appreciated!

First I want to say one item you have to try at the Contempo Cafe is their Chicken Ceasar Salad with the dressing already on it, because in my opinion it tastes great and it's my favorite thing on their menu. Plus all their salads are made fresh each time you order them, so they are not pre-made and kept in a fridge all day. Anyway when it comes to Captain Cook's and Gasparilla's Grill & Games, I have been to both locations and I liked the food a lot better at Gasparilla's.

We always enjoy a stop at the Poly for Captain Cook's. The aforementioned Tonga Toast is great. We also adore getting a serving of Pineapple Dole Whip. My hubby likes the Pork Sandwich and the Hawaiian Flatbread. It is also fun to get a bowl of pineapple.

We also like the outdoor eating space there, quite lovely.

Have a great trip. We think the CS food at the Contemporary tastes fine, but the atmosphere just isn't our thing.

We just returned from BLT and found that the Contempo was a great choice for CS (although beware - the cupcakes in the bakery look much better than they taste). The Contempo had some great flatbreads and salads, and, although we didn't partake, the sandwich offerings looked nice too. Also, we've stayed at the Poly and have always found Captain Cooks to be a great choice for both breakfast and lunch. And, yes, Captain Cooks sells Tonga Toast!! :thumbsup2

Captain Cook's is a pretty good stop.

We really liked the Contempo Cafe. We did not try it for breakfast, but did go there for take-out on our first night there (BLT) because it was raining and kind of miserable and we had just flown in. The flatbreads were very good, as were the salads. We were pleasantly surprised.

When I read the thread title, I thought the poster suggested opening counter service at the monorail stations themselves. I can easily see Disney selling Starbucks coffee.

There is a Joffrey's Coffee stand at the TTC, actually.

We enjoyed the Contempo Cafe. I had the Turkey sandwich for lunch and it was yummy. The chicken alfredo was excellent! DH enjoyed the Steak salad and we had the burgers which were good too. The cookies and brownies were yummy! Didn't try the cupcakes, but they do look fantastic.

We tried Capt.Cook's for the first time in June and LOVED it. The menu is so different than most CS places, also there's sushi in one of the fridges! We are definately going back there.

I really liked the flatbread I had at Contempo Cafe, the cupcake was just eh.

We :lovestruc Capt. Cook's! In fact, we'll leave MK just to go over to eat and then back to MK. We like the Hawaiian flatbread, Aloha Pork Sandwich, and the Stir-Fried Noodles. Plus....you can get a Dole Whip for dessert. Oh yum....can't wait for April!

I forgot to mention another item I like to order at the Contempo Cafe is their Pepperoni Flatbread Pizza and on Saturday's their soup of the day is Chicken Corn Chowder which tastes great.

The best counter service on the monorail is Comtempo Grab and Go, everything we had was good.

Captain Cooks is OK, def not somewhere I would seek out, but if you are staying at the Poly it's not bad.

Gasparilla is a joke, it is the GF's purgetory for those who don't have reservations somewhere decent. Thank goodness the GF cafe takes walk ups!

Thank you everyone for your thoughts and suggestions! Getting very excited for our trip and to try everyone's favorites. Sounds like we will really like Contempo Cafe as well :cool1:
