Monorail breakdowns

Has anyone had any trouble with the monorails breaking down or stopping on the track for long periods of time. If it does stop on the track does the air conditioning stay on. I think I would freak out in this heat if I was stuck in one of those for a long time. Thanks.

We had it happen in March. It didn't break down but the other monorail before us hadn't finsihed unloading in Magic Kingdom yet so we had to stop on the track. I was scared to death because I looked down. LOL. It's really high up there. The air conditioning still worked though.

Ive been stuck on many monorails but the ac never went out if it was just stopped. Sometimes you will stop waiting for another monorail to clear etc for a few mins. I have been on when the ac went off because it was due to techinical difficulities but everytime that happened it was only for a few min. and nothing major.You can take the ferry boat too if you are very worried about this.

I was on the monorail during a thunderstorm and all the power went out, including the AC. It started running again in less than 5 minutes. They thought that maybe the track got struck by lightning.

I was told by a Monorail driver that they must maintain a minimum distance between Monorails on the same track. If you experience a stoppage for a few minutes (which can seem like forever when your hot and tired) its usually because they have to wait for the monorail ahead of you to get going. That monorail is probably loading or unloading someone that needs a little extra help.

In 2002 we had a terrible time on the monorail - the CM's gave us the usual speel about needing a particular distance between cars, but we stopped 5-6 times on the Epcot track and at one point we were stopped for over 20 minutes. The A/C stayed on, thankfully. My children rechristened it the "MonoSnail," a term which we still use today!

By the way, if it helps at all Reedy Creek Fire has a tower ladder just to reach the monorail trains (don't know if that a comfort or not).

This past April we were on the Monorail on the way back from Magic Kingdom & when we got into the Contemporary we stopped. We sat there for 20 minutes until we got going again. At the time, if we had known it was going to be so long, we would have gone in to look around & browse the gift shops, but no one told us anything. I don't recall being hot, so the a.c. must have stayed on.

We had a 5-10 min. stop on the way into MK just before we entered the CR. They didn't announce anything at the time, but we were riding in the drivers carriage and it came over the radio that there were birds on the track and we'd to wait until the driver got the OK to carry on.

This happened to me! Couple years ago, I had one trip on a monorail, going from the TTC towards the Contemporary. We were packed like sardines, and for no reason, the power went out and we came to a halt, about halfway to the Contemporary. The driver on the intercom said just be patient, as they had to reboot the "system". The ac was out, and the sun was blaring, and it started heating up VERY quickly in there! I am not one to get closterphobic, but I started getting very nervous! We were all sweating and the air felt very stagnant, and we were wall to wall people! It finally took about seven minutes to get the power on and we started moving, and I breathed a huge sign of relief when it did!!

The whole experience actually made me nervous to ride the monorail for awhile! But on recent trips, I got over it!

In June, we were on the monorail and a pane of glass from the refurbishing of the Contempory Resort fell on the tracks. They had to cut power to the monorails so the CMs could clean up the track. There was NO power and NO A/C. We were stopped for about 10 minutes and it got HOT!

We were stalled a couple of times for 10-15 minutes. It was mostly in the afternoon from the TTC to Magic Kingdom. I think there are more people coming out than going in at that point of the day and we have to wait until the departing monorails leave the station. I think if you are not there first thing in the morning, you are better off taking the ferry from the TTC.

I don't mind stopping and starting when they are unloading people but I do mind when the air goes off. There must be some kind of ventilation or air coming in because you would quickly suffocate. I am sure each car is not tightly sealed where no air can get in because if the air went off for a long period of time people would be passing out with no air.
Yes, that is a comfort knowing they have a special ladder for the monorail. I have been riding the monorail when disney first opened but I don't remember all of the delays that it has now. Also, i don't remember all of the breakdowns on the rides. It was very rare to have to wait on a ride because it had broken down.

If you are talking about when a ride stops and then restarts 5 or so minutes later that has nothing to do with the ride, and is not a breakdown.

No, that is not what I am referring to. I remember the rides stopping for a few minutes because of letting people off and on and for handicapped people. Now, I am reading about all of these breakdowns where people have to be escorted off of the rides. Or they sit there for about 20 minutes and then the ride starts up again. I don't ever remember that happening when I was young. Maybe the rides aren't being maintained like they should be. Not sure what to think about it.

Its simple. The rides DO NOT breakdown anymore now than they did when you were young. However when you were young you only knew if a ride brokedown if you were on it. Now in the age of the internet you likely no about nearly every ride breakdown as tens of thoudands of guests post on this forum.

I don't remeber being stuck on the monorail but last May it was broke down many days going into the MK. Everyone had to take the Ferry over and it was a mad rush everytime. It happens what can you do.

I think it happened to me, haha. the voice over guy was skipping and stopping, so we stopped about a few feet before going to MK. My sister was freaking out and everyone was like WHAT?! WHO ?! WHERE?! haha. And about 3 minutes later, we pulled up and that was it.
