I used to have a recipe for Monkey bread, it was real simple but I can't find it. I remember you used canned biscuits cut into quarters, dipped those in melted butter and then in a sugar/cinnamon mixture, layered in a pan and baked but I can't remember the recipe amounts, cooking temp, time, etc.

Does anyone have this recipe?

TIA

Cristy

INGREDIENTS:
3 (12 ounce) packages refrigerated biscuit dough
1 cup white sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1/2 cup margarine
1 cup packed brown sugar
1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
1/2 cup raisins

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

DIRECTIONS:
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C). Grease one 9 or 10 inch tube pan.
Mix white sugar and cinnamon in a plastic bag. Cut biscuits into quarters. Shake 6 to 8 biscuit pieces in the sugar cinnamon mix. Arrange pieces in the bottom of the prepared pan. Continue until all biscuits are coated and placed in pan. If using nuts and raisins, arrange them in and among the biscuit pieces as you go along.
In a small saucepan, melt the margarine with the brown sugar over medium heat. Boil for 1 minute. Pour over the biscuits.
Bake at 350 degrees F (175 degrees C) for 35 minutes. Let bread cool in pan for 10 minutes, then turn out onto a plate. Do not cut! The bread just pulls apart.

I use the Rhodes frozen white dinner rolls.

24 Rhodes rolls
1 large package of butterscotch pudding, NOT Instant (I usually have to get 2 small because they don't have the large in our store)
1 cup brown sugar
1 stick of butter
nuts if you like

In a well greased bundt pan (I use a cooking spray) add 24 rolls, frozen, sprinkle the pudding and brown sugar on top, put pats of butter around the top of the rolls and put into a cool oven. Cover with a towel and let them thaw and raise overnight. In the morning take the towel off and turn on the oven to 350 degrees. Bake for about 20-25 minutes starting the timer when the oven gets to 350 (leave the rolls in the oven while it is warming up).

You can melt the brown sugar and pudding and pour that over the rolls instead of sprinkling it but it turns out pretty much the same if you don't do that .

Cool, I was just thinking of this recipe the other day.

There's also a version of this bread that incorporates hershey's kisses into the bread. You still cut the biscuits but you wrap them around a hershey kiss and then arrange in the pan and cook as usual. It's a great surprise for everyone!

We have two here is one of ours:

Caramel Biscuit Ring-a-Round

¾ cup firmly packed brown sugar
½ cup chopped nuts (optional)
1/3 cup margarine or butter
2 tbsp. water
2 7oz. Cans refrigerated biscuits (We usually use those Pillsbury ones that come in the red and/or blue pkg. 4 cans in a pack I believe).

Generously grease 12-cup bundt pan. In small saucepan combine brown sugar, nuts, margarine, and water; heat until margarine melts, stirring occasionally. (Or just put it in the microwave that works for me just make sure to watch it so it doesn’t boil over). Separate dough into 20 biscuits. Cut each biscuit into quarters and roll into small balls. Layer half of them in the greased bundt pan and pour half of the brown sugar mixture over them. Repeat this with the other half of the biscuits. Bake in a preheated oven at 400° for 20-30 minutes or until golden brown. Cool in pan for 3 minutes invert onto serving plate. Serve warm.

First get a monkey ..... :teeth:

I use pizza dough dipped in butter and cinnamon sugar mixture and it comes out yummy!!!

Yum! Thanks! I was just thinking about this recipe the other day and couldn't find it. I will probably make one of these recipes on Christmas morning.

Thanks everyone for your replies! Not only did I get the one I was looking for but many wonderful ideas for variations! You all are great!

Another variation is to cut the bisquits in half and flatten them out and put a little piece of cream cheese in the middle. The rest of the recipe is the same as the monkey bread only this one is called "gorilla bread".
