Monitoring websites?

I work in a mental health clinic for kids, and a clinician just came to me with a question that I don't have the answer to, but am hoping someone here will.

She had a child in her office yesterday who was left alone while the clinician met separately with the parents. While the child was in her office, she accessed inappropriate websites using the agency computer. The clinician discovered the websites in her history and has to report it to supervisors, who have asked if it is possible to tell how long the child spent on the websites.

At the time of the incident, there were no special monitors or anything on the computer. We're trying to figure out how if there are cookies or something that we can use to tell when they were accessed, to at least get an idea of how long she was browing the sites for.

Does anyone have any idea of how we can do this?

What was she looking for? Another patients records? Was she changing medical records? Or was she looking at porno out of curiosity.

I'm surprised there are no filters if it was a porn site, especially if they treat kids there. It's easy to access the history and see how long and when someone looked at a site. Be careful though of accusing folks of things that can't be proven (I'm not saying you will). Who knows who actually may have gone to that site and may want to blame someone else?

Just my opinion, of course I know absolutely no details of this situation.

I am not sure what you guys have as a firewall but we use the Astaro Security Gateway here and it does a great job of selective blocking and keeps access logs.

If something like that isn't in your budget you can set up a free OpenDNS account and use their parental controls feature to block access at the DNS level. Info is available here.
