Have u gave ur kid a card with money on it so they don't need to carry around cash?
I an thinking about getting one (i am 12) so that I can just stick it in my pocket and go. It seems easier. What I am doing is I am going to have a yard sale and put all that money on a card. but I am not sure where to get them or if there is a age limit.

Thanks in advance!

At my bank (Charter One) they have Master Card Gift Certificate cards, so you can use it where ever MAster Card is accepted. I think the minimum amount is $25 and the max is $500, but you must use them in a short period of time, 4-6 months I think. But if they are lost, it is like losing cash. I think you are old enough to have a prepaid MC Gift Certificate card(check if you bank carries them), but you could also get travlers checks I believe(and these would be a little safer, but not a card). Are you looking for a safe way to carry your money while you are on vacation? Good luck.

the only bad thing is they charge a large fee to use these cards. I don't remember the exact amount, but it was pretty expensive. I know at christmas time CVS had them at the register and AAA also sells them.

At Charterone the only fees were for getting cash for the GC at the atm. Perhaps there are similar but different cards...check out the Charter One Bank web site under new accounts.

They charge fees on the ones around here, but only if there is a balance on the card after a few months.

What we do for our kids is we carry their cash. If we lose it we replace it (which is why they let us hold it). The added bonus is lots of times I forget to subtract what they spend from their 'account' (that is a bonus for them, not me :D )

Also with the charter one cards (my kids got these from Gramma and grampa for Chirstmas) is you have to keep track of how much money is on the card case there isn't really away to check at register and they ask. There was a number on the back though and yes you do have to pay a fee after a small amount of time and you can't refill them like say you save $100 buy hte card and save another $100 you have to buy a new card you can't add to the one you already have. Just my experince.
