I've been using Quicken since 1996. You can enter transactions into Quicken the same way you enter into your checkbook register. That's how I use Quicken.
I balance my checkbook this way instead of by hand like my mother and my mother-in-law does. You click reconcile and simply check off the transactions entered in a list as you go down through a bank statement. We still have always used the paper register in our checkbook and I type in all the transactions about every week or so.
