First trip to US so not sure about how to take spending money -

* we have credit card with smallish limit

*we have Visa Electron debit card linked to our bank account (Halifax) - will we be able to use this abroad as a debit card and will we also be able to use this at ATM's

* what about travellers cheques?

* has anyone used the Travelex Cash Passport? (www.travelex.co.uk/personal/PPC_default.asp?content=ppc)

When i went abroad I exchanged a small amount of money and used my VISA and debit card without problems. There are many places nearby and possibly onsite (you can check the UK board) that you can acquire funds when needed. If you are staying on Disney property you can tie your VISA or debit card into your room key and have everything put onto one charge when you check out.

I can't answer for the cards, but if you take travellers cheques please make sure they are in US Dollars, not Pounds Sterling (sorry if you know this already!)

have had no problem using halifax visa electron in shops and atm's in the parks and malls.

I tend to stick with USD travellers cheques, mainly to keep track of the spend and keep CC for emergency/unexpected shopping.
They are usually treated as cash in Florida, sometimes you need ID and we carried a laminated copy of our passport. Never had a problem with this.
It just depends on what you are happiest dealing with.

You need to be careful with the charges associated with credit/debit card use and cash withdrawals. They can add a fair % to a transaction, typically 2.75% which mounts up.

The Nationwide credit card has been recommended several times over on these boards as it incurs no such charges.
