Money raising ideas

Do you have a skill or hobby that others might like to learn? I just stumbled upon thumbtack.com while looking for someone to teach me how to use my sewing machine. The lady in our area charges $25 an hour. Some seniors will even pay for private computer tutorials.

Has anyone here ever heard of "MELA"?? After posting this thread, I got a DM from another poster stating he/she is a "Mela Marketing Executive" and if I was interested.

I DMd back asking for more specific information and they never responded.

Probably some MLM scam or something. I wouldn't bother responding again, they are just wasting your time.

Scrape together $50-$100, and go to some yard sales/thrift stores in the next month. Buy GREAT CONDITION children's clothes, boys if you can find them, good brands (Gymbo, Janie and Jack, boutique if you can find it, Gap, ON, just make sure it is in GREAT shape). You can find them for $.25 - $1.00 each at garage sales, around $2-4 at thrift stores. You could even look on Craigslist for a lot of clothes. Just make sure they are in great shape.

Go to consignmentmommies.com and use their search feature to find consignment sales coming up near you (fall sales are starting now!).

Register for a GOOD one (look for the Consignment Mommies awards), and you will turn that $50-100 into $300 or more.

This is not FAST money, but it is GOOD money. Flexible with your schedule.

I've been doing this for a couple of seasons (investing far more than $50) and it's paying off big time.

That's a great idea!! I have been selling things on ebay but it gets frustrating sometimes when someone wants to do a return, I am doing my first one this week, or if someone won't pay for an item. For the most part it has been ok though.

I'm trying to help pay for our Disney trip in Nov. and I don't work so doing little things like this has helped some. I have sold a few hundred dollars worth so far. It would help if I would stop shopping on there though! :rotfl2:

Someone mentioned UN-employment. It is very important to know the rules on how much you can earn with out losing or having your benefits. Decreased. When DH was out of work, we found that his working, even part time, was not an option. He had made really good at his job and was drawing the max benefits. Even though he would have preferred to be working, even part time, that meant, even with the part time earning added in, less money and our expenses just could not handle that loss. What did work for us, was him going to back to work to school to work towards a masters. So many programs out there that will pay for tuition and they even made it possible for us to keep the insurance we had through COBRA. Benefits do run out, though DH was able to finish school FIRST, and then ANY job is better than nothing. One thing he did between benefits and his desired job was work for a temp service. Not the greatest, but they are often easy to get hired for and will generate some income.

Now as far a paying off debt, can you really afford to do that right now? We LOVE the debt free lifestyle and it is what saved us during some job changes. However, if you do not have plenty in savings and some other source of income to pay your mortgage, utility bills, food etc, the other debt may need to take a back seat.

We also have had times when we really had to cut expenses. Cable, Landline phone, food bill in half, no new clothes etc. Not really hard to do and we choose not to add cable or phone back even when money was no longer an issue!

You can and will make it!!!

The other poster is right, MLM - Melaleuca.

Yes, that's exactly what i thought it was and I responded as such to the person who sent me the DM. She said she would "never be involved in a pyramid scheme". That's when I DMd her back and asked how she makes money as a "Mela Marketing Executive" and if she's on a set salary or does she have to get people to buy in and buy a certain amount per month and she gets commission and the person above her getts commission ,etc... Naturally, she didn't respond.

I'm surprised this Melaluca scam is still around. I remember getting inundated with calls, emails, and letters about it 10 years ago when I was looking to make some part time income.

It's nothing but Tea Tree Oil ---- something you can buy at the vitamin store in its pure form for under $10 a bottle and you can dilute it for whatever you want to use it for.

That person is lying through her teeth.

My neighbor sells Melaluca and I am in her "downline", although I do not actively sell the stuff. I do purchase their products and to be honest, it's not just tea tree oil, but I digress.

You should report that individual for trying to promote her business through this message board. There are advertisers who pay good money to promote their products on the disboards. People shouldn't be PMing individuals to join their MLMsnand making money off of others.

I also back Amazon Turk!
I've only "worked" for about two weeks but have already made $45.00. & that's just doing surveys & stuff in my spare time! You won't get rich unless you really put a lot of effort in, but you can definitely make a fair amount of money doing simple things :cool1:

How much do you sell the kids clothes for at consignments? I just signed up for my first one and not sure how to price things.

To make extra money this summer I've offered drop in style babysitting. It's not a lot of money but it helps! I only take kids if I was going to be at home anyway or I can take them with me to whatever I was going to do.

I also do survey sites, swagbucks, I sell our stuff on a local trash and treasure facebook page. I sell my kids toys/clothes at two twice annual consignment sales. And last year I started selling Scentsy.

All together it adds up to pay for our Disney trips.

To save money every once in a while I pick a week and we can only eat whatever we have at home. I jack the AC up really high and close the blinds to try to keep it cool. No more run errands just because. We try to have 2-3 days a week where we don't go anywhere to save gas money in the summer.

I also do surveys, I use quickrewards, I can usually get around 25.00 every month sometimes more when I am able to have more time. I spend about half an hour maybe 45 minutes in the early morning. I am off for summer vacation right now so for the next couple of weeks before the school year starts and I am back to work. I have a yaris that gets great milage so I trade in for b&p gas cards.

Do you have any old jewelry you can cash in? I haven't done it, but am considering it myself. I have some broken chains, etc. I also have my engagement ring and wedding band from my first marriage that I have hung onto for some reason or another. I need to get rid of it and put the money towards my bills.

I think they say as a rule to list it for two thirds of what you paid for it, but that seems high to me. Most of the time I list mine for less to just get them sold.

I wish I had some left. I sold all of mine a few years ago and gold is with way more now. :worried:
