June 5, 2005 (Sunday)
Today DH and DS actually woke up before 9am because we were trying to get to MGM for the SWW events. We arrived around 11:30am, just missing the SW parade, but the boys were okay with it since their stomachs seemed to be ruling at the moment so we arrived early at
50s Primetime, one of our favorite fun places to eat at WDW for our noon PS/ADR. Again people who didnt have a PS/ADR were being turned away for the entire day
so get them if you really want to eat a specific location.
We had a blast at 50s Primetime with Cousin Brenda taking care of us. She was fantastic with DS for his birthday. She told our section that if anyone had any questions to ask him because now that he was 13 he knew everything to which DS laughed as much as the rest of us. At the end of the meal she brought him a cupcake and a card for the rest of the cousins to sign while we all sang Happy Birthday. Afterward, one twenty something guy yelled ala Budweiser commercial, I love you, Cousin Nic!
When we left 50s Primetime we headed over to One Mans Dream, which at first glance seemed a little lame until we started walking through the exhibit with all of Walts memorabilia. Wow! I saw one of the lunch boxes from childhood and did it bring back memories the Country Bears were my favorite. The diorama built by Walt himself was amazing just like the man. Even DS enjoyed looking at the models for the different parks while we waited to be seated for the movie of Walts life. This was such a nice documentary Ive watched different programs on Walt Disneys life, but this film did such a great job at presenting Walt, the man and his dream. I just kept thinking what a great father that his dream for his daughters turned into the dream of so many fathers and mothers - to go to a place where the parents could ride and enjoy attractions along side of their children. I actually got
teary eyed near the end
DH understood
DS didnt see it, which is probably good because it would have embarrassed him. I left the theater with an even greater appreciation for Mr. Disney! Thanks, Walt!
While waiting for Who Wants To Be A Millionaire, we saw some of the SW characters such as Darth Sith, Stormtroopers, Imperial Guards, and short, fat, slobbery thing whose name I dont know. Once inside WWTBAM, we overheard a CM, Jim, talking to another guest about himself. It seems Jim is from a town very near our home, Carbondale, Illinois, but unfortunately we didnt have a chance to speak with him. This was our first time to give WWTBAM a try and were really surprised with how well we did. DH faired better than me in the first game, placing 8th in the Fastest Finger, but in the second game I managed to place 5th.
We tried to grab a performance of Little Mermaid, but the attraction broke down while we were in line, so well have to catch it at Christmas. We headed over to Rock n Roller Coaster, grabbed a fastpass so we could ride after our dinner and then tried to grab one for Tower of Terror, but couldnt since we had just snagged one for RNRC. Fortunately a very nice CM noticed we were having a bit of problem with the fastpass so I explained that we wouldnt be able to grab a fastpass for TOT because wed be in the middle of dinner. The CM was kind enough to give us a return pass so we could come back at a time that was convenient for us. Thanks CM Jonathon!
We headed down Sunset Blvd. and into the Once Upon A Toy store, where we found some very pretty Christmas decorations, which gave me some ideas for our Christmas visit. DS found an ESPN hat that he liked and in the jewelry section I found a pair of Tinkerbelle earrings that Id been hoping to find. By then it was time to head to Hollywood & Vine for our Fantasmic Dinner Package. It was our first time here and we were pleasantly surprised with the selections. I have to say that the magic of WDW was burst for me in the strangest way I had never realized that H & V shared the bathrooms with 50s Primetime.
After dinner we headed back to TOT and used the return pass given to us by CM Jonathon and got right on. It was one of the best rides we had on TOT gotta love the random drops! Then we hung out near RNRC, playing Bad Shoe - CROCS seeing how many of each we spotted and watched the people go by there are some interesting folks at WDW. When our fastpass time arrived we got in line and immediately heard the announcement that the attraction was experiencing some kind of problem ick! Well, we were only delayed for a few minutes and then we were inside and quickly on the ride. DS had forgotten how the limo shoots out 0mph to 70mph in about 3 seconds and it caught him off guard. Personally, I ended up riding the entire time with my eyes shut; not because I was scared, but because it helped with the jerkiness. Ive decided RNRC is not one of my favorites.
Since we had PS at Fantasmic and it was 8:15pm we decided we should head to the special gate near Oscars. The walk from the gate to the theater is interesting, kind of a free behind the scenes tour. Now I know where all of those strollers at MGM end up at the close of day.
As soon as we reached the theater entrance we were seated. The sections held for FDP patrons are not the best seats (center), but they were acceptable for us. Okay, I might get flamed here, but I am so glad I didnt wait in line for an hour like some of the people without the FDP. I thought Fantasmic was a good show, but not one I will have to see again. It was neat how the scenes are projected onto the water but I guess I had read so much about it that I had over hyped it for myself and it just didnt live up to the hype.
We felt that we had done all we really wanted to do that day and left shortly after Fantasmic. Upon arrival to the room, we decided to start packing since Monday was our last day.
