Moms who "wear" your babies...

I had an Ergo first and didn't like it very much. I never could figure out how to make it side carry. Then I got a Becco and like it a lot better. Haven't used it at Disney yet, but I will be taking it in November. My youngest will be 16 months, so I figure I will mostly use it as a side carrier while in lines and that sort of thing.

I've used a Maya Ring Sling, Moby Wrap, Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch (KKAFP) and finally a Babyhawk Mei Tai.

Ds is now 22mo and will be turning 2yo while we are at WDW. I plan on taking the Mei Tai on our trip but am thinking about borrowing a Beco or Ergo from a friend as well.... still thinking about it.

My KKAFP was my FAVORITE newborn carrier by far. I used it from the time ds was 3 days old until about 18mo or so. He didn't like it much after he got significantly bigger!

When we went to Disney in Sept 06 I REALLY REALLY wanted a BECO for my then 20 pound 1yearold. Unfortunately, the turnaround time was like 3 months, and my trip was in one month...so I purchased an ERGO. We actually hardly used it at WDW. But we used it all the time at home. Whenever we would go grocery shopping she'd ride in that since she'd never want to stay in the cart, or walks around the neighborhood, too. We used it up until she was about 2 years old. I'm sure she still would fit just fine, but she likes to walk now. So from experience I'd recommend the ERGO, but if you have the time to wait you could try the BECO like I wanted to.

There are a lot of online vendors that have certain Becos in stock ready to ship...when i oredered mine i literally got it in 3 days!!!!

Yeah, now she has them available at some online vendors! Back when I got mine (the same time pp was looking) I had to wait 4 VERY LONG WEEKS. But, it was worth it when I got it!!!

I don't have advice on the Beco or Ergo - I used a Mei Tai with my 25-pound 20-month old last time I was there. And a Moby for about ten minutes, but it's hard to wrap that when he doesn't really want to get in. The Mei Tai is a lot easier, and he napped in there for a couple of hours while we walked around. Very comfortable for us both. I also own a Snugli. It has a convienent drink holder.

Other than that, the Mei Tai is way more comfy for him. Russ still likes to tuck his legs in when he sleeps - can't in a Snugli, can in a Mei Tai.

I made the Moby and Mei Tai myself, very cheaply. Even put padded shoulders on my Mei Tai.

We have the one from babyhawk.com - we actually have the toddlerhawk and it's great even for my almost 3 yr old. We went to a cornmaze today and DH wore her on his back when her little legs got tired. It's a great investment.

For little babies, I love the kangaroo korner adjust. fleece pouch.

i ordered my beco from www.euphoriamaternity.com and got it in just over a week. i think it only took that long because it had to come across the border.

i'm taking it next week so we'll see how it goes with my 20 month old.

While on the subject of carrying babies, I was wondering if any of you have opinions on the ergo for an infant? I have a three week old and am wanting to purchase some sort of sling/carrier and I can't make up my mind what kind of thing to get. I have seen that some people really recommend the wrap type sling. What do you guys think? This would just be used for use around the house and when we go out to the store, etc.

One more q- are the expensive ones much better than the less expensive ones you can get at Target, etc.?

I ADORE my WAHM made moby. It is Perfect for daily wear and dd LOVES it. I just don't think at her weight my back can handle a full week of disney, but I have worn her for hours before as an infant with no problem.

anybody happen to know any shops (near Disney or in Orlando) that sells ErgoBabyCarriers?
coming soon to Disney and would like to buy one.
TIA!

I see there are a lot of Bjorn haters here. :lmao:

I have a Bjorn and an Ergo. I used to use these all the time but now DS is about 26 lbs so the Bjorn kills my back. I bought the Ergo when DS was about six months old (to use as a backpack) but I haven't used it lately.

We are leaving for WDW on Sunday and I only packed the Bjorn because I've heard other moms say a front pack is easier and I always thought the Bjorn was more user friendly compared to the Ergo.

Anybody with WDW experience with carriers? Which is better, front pack or back pack?

I carried my son in the front pack last time, only when he was napping. The rest of the time he wanted freedom to be held by grandparents, walk, or zoom around in the stroller. But since he was almost two, I was only carrying him 1-2 hours a day, and only on days when we didn't go back to the hotel for nap.

I think it really depends on how much you plan on wearing your baby. I think I said this before, but I wore my ds on my back for the majority of our trip. It was perfect. I much prefer it to the front carry now that he is bigger. I don't think it's a pain at all having him on my back. When we get to the front of a line I pop him off. I would take the carrier you are most comfy with. If you find the bjorn comfy, take it. If find my Beco far more comfy so that is what I choose.

Personally for a 26 pounder, i would defintitely say Back carry would be MUCH more comfortable...if you plan on wearing him for any extended period of time.
An Ergo, Beco, Mei Tei etc... could be worn either way so i think that would be the best bet!!!

I love my beco! I used my friend's Ergo at Disney before deciding to purchase the beco. My reason for getting the beco was the taller height of the fabric. I felt it was more secure as my daughter is fairly tall. I also liked the fabric and the hood much better and the fact that it folds smaller. I am getting rid of my bjorn active carrier. I hardly used it as it was just not comfortable to me as it pulled down on my shoulders. The Ergo and Beco transfer so much weight off your shoulders because the baby's legs are wrapped around you. They also seem more comfortable and I love that you can wear it on your back. My daughter will fall asleep within minutes when I put her in the Beco close to nap time (even now at 1 years old). I am also getting rid of my backpack as I don't see a need for it now that I have the Ergo. Wish I had something like this with my first!!!

I used my peanut shell sling mainly when she was younger and also loved that! Just make sure you get the right size. If border line on sizes, get the smaller one! I liked it because it was so easy to put on and to have with me at all times. My daughter would sleep for 3-4 hours while I shopped! I would get a bit sore after carrying her that long but it wasn't too bad.

Hi

I have to say that I'm a huge supporter of a sling. My son practically lived in his sling til he was 3, he was a small baby and was about 19 lbs at that age. The sling was so convenient, packed well, I could discreatly nurse with it, it kept my hands free and it was comfortable for both of us - even in the heat. It was also flexable enough to fit our needs as he grew from infant to toddler. I could "wear" him all day without back problems. It was easy and fast to readjust if my hubby wanted to carry him. What I liked best was I could put him down, in his carseat or on a bed, without taking him out of it when he was sleeping. When he was older he could slide out the bottom and run around and I could just leave the sling on til he was ready to get back in it.

Now I must admit, my baby just turned 15. I don't have a clue what any of these carriers are that are being discussed. And 15 years ago a sling was a sling, nothing fancy, a long piece of fabric with a tail on one end and 2 rings on the other.

I loved my sling so much that I took it with us when we went to Disneyland the first time - my son was 6. We didn't need it but I took it just incase.

I strongly recommend a basic sling to any new mom. If your baby is older, I would suggest getting it long enough before a trip to get used to it. Experiment with it too - front carrying is great for a new born or any sleeping baby, baby on the side is useful when they can sit and want to watch the world, baby on back is good for doing dishes.

I hope this helps.

Oh yeah Ring slings are awesome!!!!!! I used a solarveil ring sling while in WDW in august..so cool and i was able to wera DD right into the pool!!
I always keep a RS in my car for quick trips in and out of stores!
My favorite RS's are from http://www.sleepingbaby.net/ ..awesome prices and awesome customer service!

thanks. so there isn't any retailer in Orlando area.:sad1:

I know that Ergos are sold also here in Finland, but the price is about 90euros while in US they seems to be 92$. so lot cheaper there in US.

I bet you could have one shipped to you at WDW if you really want one.. I can't believe they are so much more expensive overseas! I'm guess it's the shipping cost, etc?
