Moms, what would you do if

your child (4yo) wanted to wear something goofy? My son is wearing shorts in the house right now. But, I told him he needed to wear pants to school because it's a bit chilly outside (high 60s). He came up with a "great idea" of wearing his jeans over his jean shorts. Now, I know that won't be comfortable and I told him so. But he's insisting. Would you let your child do this or would you insist he take the shorts off. He's only in school for 2-1/2 hours.

I would let him. He can always take the shorts off if he is uncomfortable.

I let my daughter wear her rain boots when it's a beautiful sunny day b/c she loves to wear them.

She also wore her snow boots with her pj's in June and played outside like that.

Oh you should see how I have let my child go out of the house! LOL. I have let my child do things like this. He has learned from his "mistakes" that way. My DS will be 5 in next week. It must be a 4yr old thing.

Oh my son was wearing his rain boots last week too, when the weather was beautiful.

I would let him. My dh would not!

for a whole year...yes a whole year.. my ds 2 1/2 wore a black Mickey cowboy hat we got at DL, and a pair of boot with EVERYTHING! even in summer with shorts, bathing suit... he insisted we call him Fievel too

He grew out of it, but hey.. it's his style.

I try to steer them into "nice" clothes.... but sometimes I don't win.

I have learned to pick my battles, I would let him......

I would let him, also. My ds is 5 now, and I let him pick his clothes everyday. As long as they are suitable for the weather conditions, he can wear whatever he wants. He knows that there are times where I must override him due to circumstances (i.e. wedding, a "color day" at school), but he's much more willing to do so knowing that he usually gets to pick what he wears. He's gone out in some doozie outfits, but as long as he is dressed for the weather, and doesn't offend (other than the fashion police), I don't care.

Well he took the shorts off. I guess after a few mintues he figured out that it wasn't comfortable. I'm used to him dressing strangely. He has some colored socks that he likes to wear all the time. Even with shorts and tennis shoes and he pulls them all the way up to his knees. I always say to my DH that surely strangers know that we're not dressing him that way.
