Congrats Skuttle! He is perfect! I am so happy for you ...

So, I have a question. I went to my ob-gyn office yesterday for an "intake" appointment. They went over what I can and can't do and things like that. One thing they said is that I need to completely stay away from artificial sweetners. I am confused - I need to watch my weight and not gain too much (I am pooh sized), but I can't have light yogurt and diet coke? (I LOVE Coek zero - I have been having one a day)

TIA for replies!

Hey Darlin! I googled that a few days ago. Being a diabetic Ive been using Equal and Spenda forever. What I found is that they really want you to stay away from saccarine (SP?) Splenda is best but Equal is fine. There is another derivative of sugar called either Truvia or Stevia. From what I gleened off of google nutrasweet was fine to have while pregnant in low incriments, but that is the same as sugar. Everything in modiration.;)

Hey Everyone-

My name is Rose and I have spent the last year or so on the TTC thread going thru all sorts of stuff to get to this point. At this point I am around 6.5 weeks - we really are not sure. I have a second ultrasound to find out a better time frame on Monday.

Congrats Skuttle - what a beautiful baby!

We're in this together lady!:goodvibes

Welcome to the world, Baby Liam!

I loved reading the birth story. I wish I could deliver naturally without pain meds, but to be honest I have a low threshold for pain, so I don't know.

Meds were invented for a reason! I'm with ya on that sister! From what I have seen/ heard it is a beautiful, wonderful albeit tramatic experience for any of us to go through. If meds can take the edge off I'm thinking that's better for everyone!:goodvibes

Thanks - I used to have a huge Coke Zero problem - I drank like 3 or 4 a day. Recently I have gotten myself down to my 1 precious Zero a day and then yesterday I told - NONE! :scared1: So I was distraught - no booze AND no Zero. :scared1: Are they trying to kill me! :lmao:

Be safe in the snow E!

Skuttle -- Liam is so cute, as is his big brother. Thanks for the information on your birth. I'm a little worried about the possibility of being induced , because I'm not dilated at all. But a lot can happen in a week and a half, so I'm trying not to think about it too much.

Welcome MammaSnowwhite! I hope everything goes great for you! I wasn't told to avoid artificial sweeteners, but it seems like the "things to avoid" list is different with every doctor/midwife/book. I drink Sprite Zero and Diet caffeine free Coke regularly and a lot of Crystal Light, so I obviously didn't avoid artificial sweeteners. I agree that no alcohol and no pop would be too much change to take:rotfl: I keep telling my husband that he has to go to the liquor store and pick up a small bottle of champagne to celebrate the birth. I don't want to be the 9 month pregnant lady buying booze!

I have done some research and heard aspartame (nutrasweet, whats usually in diet coke) is a chemical and not good. Slplenda is half natural-half chemical and is ok in low amounts. Stevia (Purevia and Truvia) is better b/c it is all natural.

I was told i can't have any caffeine AT ALL b/c it has been shown to cause misscarriages and I had one before. Also no decongestant allergy meds (such as Allegra-D, Clarinten D), so I got a neti pot to help with that. Also, no tuna b/c of the mercury.

Congrats again, skuttle! I can't see the photos now b/c I am at work and they block them, but I will check once I get home!

MommaSnowWhite and E...Again, it is so great seeing y'all on this thread!! I know what a huge step it is to go from the TTC thread to this one. It took me longer to make my way over here because I was so nervous. It's so great to FINALLy see some graduates from that thread again! :goodvibes

As far as the meds go for delivery, everyone handles pain differently. At first the nurse gave me a bucket because she thought I was going to throw up, but I never felt nauseous. I just felt like I would pass out, which is a bit scarier than throwing up! I usually have a pretty high pain tolerance. I waited a while to get the epidural with DS1. Then with Liam, I guess I waited too late! It wasn't until I started pushing that the epidural started taking the edge off a little and I only pushed 3 or 4 times so if I had to do it, I could have made it w/o meds. Pushing actually made the pain less intense. What really hurt was NOT pushing when I could feel the baby was right there...but my Dr and DH were still trying to make there way back to the room so we had to try to wait! I still wouldn't choose no pain meds! LOL!

No, artificial sweeteners are bad for baby, just look at this as a wonderful time to switch to water. Believe me, the more water you drink the easier your pregnancy will be. You will shed the weight much quicker after you give birth if you are drinking more water and not drinking diet sodas and artificially sweetened yogurt. Those things just stimulate your appetite for more sweet things. It's an addiction like anything else - just go cold turkey - easier when you are doing it for your precious baby than just doing it for yourself. In a few days time it won't bother you that much - in a couple of weeks you won't crave it at all - and in a couple of months, you'll wonder why you thought you ever needed it.

You shouldn't be drinking coke zero anyway because of the caffeine. Not good for the babies nervous system.

Welcome Snow White!

Skuttle: Both of your boys are just so adorable and handsome! Great pictures, so happy for you!

Not much to update around here. I spent a large amount of time in Babies R Us today doing a preliminary registry check. I basically wrote down different car seats, strollers, cribs, pak-n-plays... stuff like that so I could come home and look at product reviews. I will spend today and tomorrow reviewing customer reviews and deciding what to register for. On Friday evening a friend of mine will be coming over and we will be going to do the registry. DH has given the two of us free reign to decorate as we please. I have little to no decorating sense so this is why I am bringing my friend, she is great at that sort of thing.

Tonight I am going out for celebratory "We Passed!" dinner with one other friend who was in my program. We both moved to Orlando and will be employed by the same group. I will treat myself to one glass of wine tonight (since the OB says 1-2 per week is OK). Tomorrow and Friday and I will have orientations to attend for much of the day.. so much to do!

Hope you had a great time at your "We Passed" dinner and decorating. I have no crafty gene at all! I am going to be calling in a couple of friends and telling them what I think I want and letting them figure out how to do it. They are AWESOME! Look I figure I will provide the food, beer and wine and then let their imaginations run wild with my idea! I think that's fair:goodvibes Thank God I work for a brewery! This could mean some very long planning sessions!

Hi! Hope everyone is doing well! :goodvibes

I went to the RE yesterday and low and behold the US told us we are haveing TWINS! I can't believe it!:goodvibes We are officially 5 weeks and looks like I will be able to tell everyone the week before my b-day in March. Well, everyone whom we haven't blabbed to already. I know, I know it's terrible we have to learn to keep our mouths shut!;) I'm happy we will be able to tell everyone before my b-day though because, considering it's my big 4-0 people would definately be thinking something was up if I went around with a glass of soda water.:lmao: I know, not really that funny, but it kinda is considering my job. I mentioned earlier that I work for a brewry. I'm the owner's assistant as well as a beer taster. That part of my job has now been put on hold. :thumbsup2

I had a huge wave of nausia this am. Got the sweats and ran to the bathroom but it definately passed. I'm hoping that it doesn't get to bad but hey, I've waited so long for this that anything is doable!:goodvibes

Congrats Eilis! Twins is so exciting! You and your husband must be trilled.

Well, today is my due date, but so far no signs that the baby feels like being born. We're just sitting around waiting for the baby to come. I hope it decides to come soon because I'm pretty uncomfortable and I don't really want to have a 10 pound baby. My midwife is estimating that the baby weights at least 8 pounds right now.

Congrats!! Twins are awesome! Well I actually wouldn't know from personal experience but I would love to have them! Being 37 and knowing I want another baby, twins would be a good solution! Again, how awesome for you!!

I know what you mean about the drinking thing. We are having a Super Bowl party tonight and I hope no one notices I'm not drinking. We aren't telling many people this time b/c of my m/c in the fall. I am 5w3d so right around the end of March is 14 weeks for me, I think.
