I want thank each one of you personally by name, but it will take me forever to go back and forth to reply to each of you.
Reading your replies was like sitting across from a friend, on the couch discussing your troubles and trading experiences, it was very comforting knowing your were listening and relating to me.
Some asked if there would be consequences for her behavior? The answer is "absolutely". She so looked forward to tonight's AI and that is out of the question now, that will really hurt, trust me. Also, she'll have a bedtime of 7:30 for tonight. She'll be in bed before her younger brother, whom she woke up last night.
The quote from Dr. Phil was great, I love it!
Aunt Lissa - I remember you're post because it hit so close to home. Same situation for me, more respect for dad for the rules and curfews. I didn't live with my mom from age 9 due to their divorce and and at 13 when I was smoking
eek:
), my mom gave me a cigarette and said "I know you're smoking, you might as well just have one with me". That still make me cringe to this day. What was she thinking? (Please - no flames, it's over and done) I needed a mom who would be an in control parent, not my best friend. Just when we started to get closer, she had her stroke and our relationship wasn't on the same level anymore, because it just couldn't be. I became the mom in a way and her the older child.
The "everyone but me gets to" attitude gets her nowhere with me. My response is simple "i'm not their parent, I am yours and I'm concerned only with you".
I am sticking to my guns and I will not argue back anymore. I WILL say "this is the rule" period! I will not let her goat or bait me any longer, I must have the upper hand if I want my girl to look presentable, this is important to me because I feel it reflects some of our parenting if I condone it. I won't be one of those moms who wants to be a cool mom and let them grow up before they are ready. What good would come from that?
I AM a cool mom, she doesn't want to admit it
She'll thank me one day the way I admire my dad for instilling values and teaching me self-appreciation, respect for myself and others.
I truly appreciate all of your replies mom's. You're are all the greatest!! (dad's - I did not mean to exclude you at all)
