Do any of you have a hotslings? How do you like it? What positions can you wear your baby in? How old is your baby? How much does your baby weigh? Have you worn it at Disney?

I had a Snuggli - hated it b/c it killed my back and shoulders. I tried the Ultimate Baby-wrap and it was too much of a hassle and the baby never really felt very secure. Right now I have a Jeep carrier (the $40 one) and I like the safety clips on it. I think it would be fine for DW. I don't feel like I can clean house in it while wearing the baby, but that obviously won't be a problem at Disney.

I'm considering the hotsling b/c I thought my baby might be more comfortable in it, especially for sleeping (maybe even nursing). She loves to cradle to sleep. She's never slept in the Jeep one before, so I don't know how that would work out.

Thanks!

I had a hotslings and a peanut shell, but really only used them when DD was a newborn. I did love them for that period though. Then i moved to ring slings, and Mei Tei's
How old is your DD????? That might help a bit..

She'll be about 5 months when we go.

I have a peanut shell, a buddy sling, and a baby bjorn. I love them all for different reasons. The baby bjorn is great now that he can support his head (3mo) He loves to face forward but, it is tough to pack it takes up a ton of space in your luggage. The peanut shell and buddy sling are super easy to pack and fit in my diaper bag. My husband has his own peanut shell as well. This is great for feeding and traveling. My buddy sling is quilted so it doesnt stretch and keeps the baby where I need him. I'm not sure the peanut shell is really worth the money. The buddy slings are made by a stay at home mom in New Jersey and they are custom made to your size.

Good Luck and have a great time at Disney!

One last thought...see if your husband will wear a sling. It really helps to have someone else to share the duties. He gets TONS of attention from women when he has it on (ego boost). He wears it when we fly and our son snuggles right in making DH feel special.:cloud9: (3 round trip flights so far and 0 tears!) My husbands is made of fleece which he isnt wild about...so avoid that kind.
Disney with a baby in a sling is sooooo easy! Don't forget to check out the baby care centers in the parks.

:thumbsup2

The thing about a hotsling is that you have to get it to fit just right or it will hurt your back/shoulders (if it is too big). I've had a hard time with non-adjustable pouches so finally gave up.

With a pouch, you can do a hip carry, kangaroo carry in front facing out, cradle carry (though by 5 months, most kiddos are too big for this), you can also slide baby from your hip to your chest (facing in) - this is a handy napping position for a bigger baby.

My favorite carriers have been an adjustable pouch by Kangaroo Korner, and a mei tai by Kozy Karrier. The mei tai seems like a lot of straps, but goes on easily and it is like nothing carrying baby for hours like that.

thebabywearer.com has lots of good info and reviews on various carriers - you might want to check it out!

I'd suggest a Mei Tia carrier they are great for carring old heavier babies. I used the hotsling in disney for my 13 month old but ONLY for short term like while waiting in lines, on rides, ect. but about 50% of the time she was in the stroller. i had my hotsling at the perfact size had it adjusted to be a 1/2 size inbetween. I used it last year when we went too. I'll probably still take with me this year as well, but i woudl NEVEr use it to carry a baby of any age all day it does to much to the back, you need a two sholder carrier like a wrap or a Mei Tia ( check out kozycarrier .com ) they use to be top of the line (i haven't been into baby carrier for a while now though since my youngest is 3 1/2 !

Hotslings are good, but mine was a bit too big and it was hard on me. I also got a reversible with one side twill and the other side satiny brocade, and the brocade slipped and slid which added to the difficulty, but I don't even know if they have that sort anymore.

I liked the mammasmilk adjustable pouches better, especially as DS got older and bigger.

Mei tais are *wonderful*.

But since you like the clips and such, a bit more "western" in style (vs traditional cloth carriers), you might try an Ergo (which I bought for DS when he was 2), or even a Beco, which I've heard good things about but have never tried.

My hotsling was used constantly from birth to about 2 months, then DS really didn't seem to handle the front carry very well. (He is a puker, and I think that carry was just to squishy for him.) Now, at nearly 7 months and 18+ pounds, I am using the Hotsling again for him. The hip carry is great with it, although I really don't know if I could hack it for a few hours at WDW while walking. I do fine at the grocery store for an hour or so, but then my shoulder really starts to ache alot. That being said, it would be a great addition to your diaper bag to throw on to wander around fantasyland for a bit. BUT, I don't think the hotsling will comfortably hold a 5 month old in a cradle hold unless you get a bigger size than recommended. Like some other posters mentioned, a Mai Tae (babyhawk is my choice) or an ergo carrier (my newest and MOST FAVORITE) might be a better choice for an older infant. You can't do a cradle hold, but they are still pretty versitile.

My friend just forwarded this website to me....www.rockinbabysling.com It looks like you can do a whole lotta different carries with it....and wow, the colors are so cool!!!! Might be a bit more "usable" for your wants in sling!

Good luck!

I used a Kangaroo Korner Adjustable Fleece Pouch (KKAFP) from 3days old until about 18mo.... overlapped w/ a Moby Wrap and then moved on to a Babyhawk Mei Tei.

Ds is now 2yo and a friend loaned me her Beco for WDW last month and it was WONDERFUL. A little easier to use on the go than the Babyhawk.
