Please help! My mom will be turning 75 on Nov. 18, 2003. For those of you who don't know, this is also Mickey Mouse's 75th birthday! My family will be taking her to Disney World (1st time visit for all of us) and we want to make this a REALLY special visit. I know about the birthday buttons, but I want to try to arrange for something a bit more celebratory...any ideas? Does any one know if Disney is doing anything special to celebrate Mickey's birthday? Do you know of any one I can contact at Disney to find out?? I know this is the budget board, but I'm not neccessarily looking for "budget ideas". I posted this message on the "tips" board, but only had 1 reply which was to get the birthday buttons.

Thanks for all the great money saving tips about food and water that I've learned from you guys!

Colleen A. has a post on the Community Board that the 100 year celebration is being replaced by one for Mickey's 75th. There weren't any other details but it's a start.

In terms of something special what about one of the special tours the different parks offer like keys to the kingdom. Or how about a really special dinner at V&A for the adults.

Your post has starting me thinking about my mom's 75th next year.

LOL,

Kate

With your mom having her 75 on the same day as Mickey I'd definately try writing Disney (pick the theme park you plan to visit that day and write to guest relations of that park) tell them about your mom's b/day and it being the same as Mickey's 75th b/day and ask nicely if there is anything they could recommend to make her day special and help her celebrate with Mickey. It wouldn't hurt to send a picture of your mom (perhaps of your mom with the family or something like that). Nothing at all may happen, but who knows, maybe something special will occur. I'd also write either the General Manager or the concierge dept of your hotel (if you are staying on site) requesting the same thing. Also, send a picture, it makes it more personal.

I wouldn't recommend you bothering to do this except that the fact that your mom will be 75 on the same day Mickey is 75 is very unique and special and the folks at Disney might think it's worth a second look. Good luck.

Thanks for the great ideas! Having never been to DW, it's hard to know what's available etc. The idea to write a letter and include a photo is a great idea. We took my Mom to Disneyland on her 70th B-day, and we have a family photo with her and Mickey holding a up a birthday sign. That would be a great picture to send to them!

The tour idea also sounds like fun. I've heard something about a boat that's decorated with b-day stuff that you can rent to watch fireworks. Do you guys know anything about that?

Thanks!

We took my mom on her first WDW trip last May when she was 77 (not her b-day though). She very much enjoyed the Illuminations Cruise we took. We rented a pontoon for our cruise (holds up to 12 people), but there is a nicer boat called "The Breathless" (more expensive too, but I've read wonderful things about it). I believe you can do birthday celebrations on the boats; not sure if you just purchase a birthday package or something like that, or if you just bring your own supplies. I'm sure someone here knows the scoop :)
