Mommy's Magical Memories (Update 7.12.2012)

I know! I had planned to add the hoppers but was debating between adding them & getting rid of WP&M or just keeping both! Since we are doing Disney Quest and at least one mini golf, I think its a good choice to keep them both! :thumbsup2

I do have to say though, I am soooo going to miss walking over to Epcot every night! We park hopped last trip just because it was so easy. I loved all of my late night dessert choices

My parents get the hoppers every year & my mom ALWAYS would say "How can you NOT get hoppers???" :confused3 They go to rope drop & EMH's almost every day though, so they really get the most out of their days! We haven't made it to rope drop yet! Maybe this year since the baby does get up early -- but we like to let Luke sleep in!

My main reason for loving park hoppers is the flexibility -- since we have to make dining choices over 6 months in advance, I like to at least be at Disney and still be able to change up plans! We did that last year & it was more relaxing than having such a rigid schedule just because of where I made our dining for that day! :thumbsup2

Rope drop at MK is amazing. The opening ceremony made me cry and getting there so early and getting so much done in such a short amount of time was awesome!

The hoppers are so worth it, in my opinion. If one park's crowded, you can go to another! We love having that kind of freedom. We're really quite spoiled by it.

Just for anyone who needs to know, a co-worker of mine (Jenseib) told me this morning that the Epcot restaurants have availability in November and December! I was able to get Coral Reef AND Garden Grill for the dates I wanted so I am thrilled right now!!!

Thanks again, Jen, for letting me know!!! :cool1:

I'll be back later tonight to post all of the ADR's that I currently have and also which will change soon! More about that to come...I'm trying to catch up on all my subs right now! ;)

So glad you got Garden Grill AND Coral Reef for the days you wanted! I definitely would love to try Coral Reef. Can't wait to see your updated ADR list! :thumbsup2

Meg, I think you keep up with my PTR better than I do! :lmao: :rotfl2:

I was THRILLED -- no I was BEYOND THRILLED -- to finally get Coral Reef and Garden Grill. I knew it wouldn't be the end of the world if something happened and I didn't get them, but I reeeeeeeeeally wanted them both!

I just made ADR's less than 8 days ago (my iPhone app says I'm at 172 days...yay!)...I seriously can't believe I'm THAT impatient with dining, but I guess I am! :rolleyes1

I definitely think the Park Hoppers are worth it, especially with the new ticket structure. Since you can add them both for just a tad bit more than just having one option, I think it's a great choice to get both WP&M and PH. It's really weird what they use as a "code" for that choice...I think my reservation says "Hopper Fun" or something similar! I'll have to look it up & share with you guys!

Most people would probably think I'm nuts, but honestly if we're going to make it to Rope Drop, THIS is the trip to do it! First trip with two kids...sounds insane, but they both wake up really early! Even if it takes me two hours to get all of us ready, I still think we can make rope drop this year at least once! I'd love to make it to MK and AK for the opening. I'm obsessed with the characters at AK because of their safari outfits!

Have a big announcement!!! Hopefully will post this evening! :thumbsup2

I will post my ADR schedule very soon! But in the meantime, I've made another change! (Are you surprised?! :lmao:)

I was really excited about this trip, but I also have been really stressed. I have no idea why, I can't pinpoint the exact cause of the stress. It may just have been "life overload" with everything that has been going on recently. Or maybe it's because this year I am really trying to stick to an exact dollar amount. Normally we have a range, but this year I've been keeping track on a spreadsheet of savings/spending for the trip! I'm normally the one who wants to just "do whatever" on the trip & enjoy ourselves & worry about paying for it later. But recently I've really gotten onto this Budget Bandwagon and I am sticking to it! :thumbsup2

So yesterday I was running numbers for a couple potential clients and for my parents trip because they want to make some changes. While my mom and I were discussing her trip, the phone rang & she needed to take the call. So while she was on the phone, I decided to run some numbers for myself! :rolleyes1

You see where this is going, right?!

I ended up deciding that even if NO offer is released, we will still be ok budget-wise as long as we stay Value. But not just any Value...Art of Animation!!!

I have been watching a ton of YouTube videos on AoA and POR trying to decide between the two. Even though I was fairly certain of my decision when I posted it here, deep down I was never 100% sure of what to do. I kept going back and forth.

So you may ask, what changed my mind? A few things...it wasn't the budget that really made me switch. It was my kids! Tyler has been watching Pixar DVD's with Luke a lot recently. I usually read them a book or two & then turn on a DVD at bedtime. Recently, Luke has been asking to watch Nemo a lot. Tyler seems very interested in the characters & Luke even gave him his small Nemo :goodvibes Ironically Nemo was Luke's very first favorite Disney movie too!

Luke walked into the room the other day when I was watching YouTube videos on the recent opening of the Cars wing at AoA. He asked me if we were going there to see all of "those guys" after we were done playing in the Nemo pool! I asked him where the Nemo pool is...and he said "It's at our hotel...remember mommy? We are going there because we have two hotels now." ;)

He will never forget the Beach Club & he always asks me if we're going to sleep in our hotel again soon. It is the funniest thing! He thinks that we own the hotel! I also found out recently that he thinks every time we get on an airplane & fly to FL, we're going to stay at "our hotel" which is the BC! I tried to explain to him that you pay to stay there for a certain number of days/nights and once you leave, someone else stays there. But he always goes back to the same thing "Ok mommy...so we will stay there next time we fly on the airplane." So, ok...mommy gives up explaining it!

After I realized that Luke expects to swim with Nemo after we fly on the airplane & I saw the excitement on his & Tyler's face as they watched the Cars wing opening on YouTube, it changed my mind for good this time!!! After I called Disney to change it, I got more and more excited about it! And for the first time, I've actually talked to a bunch of people today about "my final trip plans" which I usually don't say until about two weeks before my trip!!!

So...yes, ladies & gentlemen, it is final! We will be staying at the Art of Animation resort in a Little Mermaid standard room!

 :yay:  :yay:  :yay:  :yay:  :yay:

Here are some photos...most are from AllEars.net and others are from TheDisneyBlog.com, DisneyDose.com, and DisneyWorldTickets.com which I found from random Google searches for pics of AoA!

Oh, I am SO excited for you!! I loved seeing the progress on the AoA suites in January. I am so excited to hear about it!!

Yeah, I keep up with others' reports/PTRs better than I keep up with mine, because I am not ready for mine to end! :rotfl:

We've never done the WP&M option...my parents aren't big on water parks, and we usually go when the weather is hit or miss when it comes to water parks. I feel like doing water parks in Disney would just spoil me. Every summer, a HUGE group goes to this water park up in New Hampshire for the day. It's a big event for us and something I look forward to every summer. The park is not very big, and the attractions have not really been updated, nor have any really been added, but it's a ton of fun, and I am afraid a Disney water park would really spoil me.

Rope drop doesn't sound nuts at all! Makes perfect sense to me :thumbsup2

:thumbsup2 Good choice!! I really am planning on staying in the Little Mermaid rooms at AoA this fall and I will probably be crushed if we cant :confused3 I wish they had standard rooms in each wing since I know Jack would LOVE it but there is no reason to get a suite for the two of us, besides the fact it would NOT be budget friendly!

Yay for the little mermaid rooms! I can't wait to stay there! I'll be looking forward to your report and, of course, you pictures! It seems like such a fun and cheerful place to stay and those family suites are appealing.

Hooray for AoA! I want to stay there some day, if I can ever tear myself away from WL  Maybe we could do like one or two nights at AoA at the beginning of a trip and then move to WL. I wish they had standard rooms in the Lion King wing. Little Mermaid would be my second choice though!

With the recent changes to the TV programming, I just feel they're going to change out more of the Play & Dine characters. Maybe they won't for a few years though since they have recently taken out JoJo, Goliath and Leo. I know Handy Manny is still popular among a lot of Disney fans...but Matthew watched it when he was younger & he's 11 now!! (Wow, how time flies!) If they did switch more characters, I'm not sure who they'd pick! I love your idea of Doc McStuffins though! Luke LOVES her!!! I almost made him a tshirt with the little lamb & dinosaur on it for our trip, but I'm afraid if he wears it to school kids will make fun of him. Sad that we as parents have to think about things like that in this day & age, isn't it?! :sad2:

I am sooooo excited about Be Our Guest!!! It's one of my highlights of our trip! We are not crazy at all over MK's dining options. We actually PREFER their Quick Service over Table Service. So we are def excited about it! I heard a rumor that BoG is going to have a soft opening sometime near or after Halloween. I have NO IDEA if that is true or not, it was a rumor from a source that I am not sure of being reliable or unreliable. I just heard it from a friend of a friend of a friend...one of those things! Construction normally runs behind, so I wouldn't count on it opening early...but you just never know! I hope they at least have the QS open when you're there! I promise to take a ton of pics for you...anything in particular you'd like? PM me or email me & let me know!!! That way, even if you can't eat there this trip, you can feel like you are there thru my photos :goodvibes

I'm not sure of all the Disney Junior shows & their line-up...unfortunately we haven't been home much over the past few months. I do know its changed substantially though. Their "shorts" are completely changed as well. Luke does enjoy Small Potato and Doc McStuffins. Remind me & next time I post, I'll try to list some of the shows!

Here's just an example of what's on the 24/7 channel!

I'm going to start at 5:30am just because a lot of mothers are up that early (or sooner!) Each show is 30 minutes long...shorts are obviously shorter ;)

There are a lot of shows on that I used to watch with Luke when he was around 6-12 months old, but they're only on once each day. I don't like him watching a ton of tv, but I do miss a lot of our old favorites! It makes me sad that Handy Manny and Timmy Time aren't on very much. Imagination Movers was always a favorite of ours too & it's only on once a day! We always seem to miss it! It's sort of strange because I was so thrilled to finally get the 24/7 channel and the shows we mainly watch on there (Doc McStuffins, Mickey Mouse, etc.) are on the regular Disney channel too! LOL The MAIN REASON I really am enjoying this is whenever the kids wake up at odd times in the middle of the night. Have you seen the stuff on at weird times...like 1:45am or 4am ?? It's either disgusting & shouldn't be ON tv or it's an infomercial which drive me crazy!!!

They've also been playing movies on there. I think it's the same movie for a few days or maybe the same one all week? I'm not sure, I haven't looked into it that much yet. I just went thru my tv guide channel to post the shows here for you to see!

you are so sweet to post this whole thing! i remember how excited i was when i saw the original show listing for the 24/7 channel and then how disappointing it was that so many shows were only on when i was sleeping- like little mermaid. still wish we had been able to keep the channel after they gave it to us initially. its great!

AOA is so exciting! i really really considered it. i'm jealous of everyone going, but i've made peace with it as its likely where we will stay next trip, which will be another multifamily one. i can't wait to see your pictures though! i agree with Stephanie. i wish that they had some regular rooms in each section. or i wish that they had made one of the more neutral choices, like nemo, into the standard rooms.

You are all going to think I've completely lost my mind! Guess what I did? (Surprise, surprise! LOL)

I switched resorts...again...yes again!

I'll explain why & also post my dining choices in my next update! I hope to post it this afternoon since it's already over 100 degrees here & we plan to stay inside today! :thumbsup2

Ohhhh, did you make a decision?! I can't wait to hear; you're killing me! :rotfl:

You guys are having terribly hot weather, huh? I have the AccuWeather app on my phone and I sometimes check the weather where my family in Ohio is. It's been really bad there, too. This is one time I'm glad my grandmother relies on others to get out when she wants to!

Also, speaking of which, we have dates that we'll be going out there...we're leaving Monday the 30th and coming home on Saturday the 4th. We're taking my car, which means my dad and I will trade off driving, and he's okay with passing through PA on the way there or back. I'll email you or message you on FB to see if we pass near you guys and if we'll be able to figure something out...you're one of the DIS friends I most want to meet because I feel like I know you so well already!

Catching up again (finally!) :goodvibes

Our weather here too has been crazy, the AC has been running straight for DAYS. I'm scared of that electric bill. At our old place utilities were included...

Anyway, I already know of your change. :teeth: And I think you made the right choice! You can always change it again too...:rotfl:

Ugh I know, the weather is BRUTAL! Can't wait to hear about your changes ;)

I can't believe how hot it's been! The heat index made it 111 here the other day! Of course nothing ever goes on in our small little town...and the past few weekends when it's been 90 degrees+ that's when we've had events here! We attempted to go out last weekend with the kids & even waited until it was "cooler" and it was still in the low 90's! Ugg!

Ohhhh, did you make a decision?! I can't wait to hear; you're killing me! :rotfl:

Yes! It's been ridiculously humid here! The heat index has been insane for weeks...I'd say we've had temps over 90 for maybe 3 weeks now...and the 10 day forecast shows 85-90 with heat advisories everyday! :crazy2:

I know what you mean about your grandmother...mine has emphysema and asthma and I'm so glad she stays inside a lot. If she goes anywhere, my mom usually takes her because she doesn't drive.

I'll email you about the end of the month! It's been on my list of things to do foooooorever! I promise to do it asap! :thumbsup2

Our a/c has been running for days too!!! I was shocked at last month's electric bill because it was so low! I was expecting a few hundred so it was a nice surprise! But I'm sure we won't be so lucky this month

I'm so glad you think I made the right decision!!! :thumbsup2

I am finally ready for a Dining Update! :cool1:

I apologize for my lack of updates recently. I made ADR's at 6am online at 180 days out. I had a pretty good idea of what we wanted! We had discussed it before even coming home last year from Disney!!! We knew our "must do's!" :thumbsup2

My husband & Luke -- Garden Grill

Me -- Coral Reef, Les Chefs de France, and the Play & Dine breakfast (for Tyler & Luke).

I also had a few new restaurants that I wanted to try...and we found some favorites last year that we wanted to put on this year's list again!

So what did I get?! I'm going to list the restaurants but not the dates & times because I still have to move some around & I don't want to jinx myself! :rolleyes2

Here are the restaurants we will be dining at!!!

Garden Grill (dinner)

Luke can't wait to see "his buddy" Farmer Mickey again!!! And introduce his little brother, Tyler, to Chip & Dale and Pluto!!!

ry%3D480

I cannot wait for dessert!!!

ry%3D480

Via Napoli (lunch)

Last September right before our Behind the Seeds Tour, we happened to get a walk-up at Via Napoli! I was shocked that they let us right in! I figured it would be at least a 30-45 minute wait! But I walked up to the desk & they said "when do you want to come?" and I said "as soon as you can get us in" and she said "How about right now?!" Yay!!!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Biergarten (lunch)

This is a new one for us! I really want to try it, but I made it on a day where we have 2 ADR's...so it's possible we may cancel one.

On the days I made 2 dining reservations, I made two that I don't care about one way or the other...if we eat there, ok...if not, no biggie!

I really want to try this one though!

ry%3D480

ry%3D400

I heard that Dr. Doofenshmirtz comes out of these doors! Has anyone seen it yet?!

ry%3D480

O'hana (late dinner)

We haven't eaten here yet...I can't wait to try it!!!

Coral Reef (dinner)

This is on MY personal "must do" list! We ate here in 2009 and 2010 but skipped it last year! It was our last day at Epcot & my husband asked me where we were eating. I told him we didn't have reservations for that evening, so he asked "Why didn't you make a reservation at your favorite seafood restaurant?"

I always tell him (and ask for his input!) the schedule ahead of time...but you know men! :rolleyes2 They don't remember anything unless you tell them five minutes before you go somewhere! He was very surprised that I didn't make an ADR for Coral Reef, but I thought we wanted to mainly try new restaurants last trip so I skipped it. I ended up going the last morning to try to get a ressie and they were booked solid! I was hopeful since it was "low crowds" in mid-September...but they were booked until the next evening (when we would already be home!)

I am really looking forward to eating here again! We ate on the second tier both times we ate here & had a great view of the aquarium!

I love the Mahi Mahi and the Magic Star here! I think I'll get both again!!!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

This is a TERRIBLE picture, but you can sort of see where we were sitting. I didn't want to use the flash because I didn't want to interrupt other people's meal...and it was before I had my DSLR so I really didn't know how to take a low-light/dark pic!

ry%3D480

Here's the menu from 2010. As of last year, it hadn't changed much. I wish they'd bring back the chutney sauce on the Mahi Mahi though. They have Jasmine Rice and Hearts of Palm with it now instead. I really liked the chutney in 2009!

ry%3D480

Les Chefs de France (lunch w/Candlelight Processional)

This is my absolute FAVORITE!!! I love it here! We currently have this booked with the CP with narrator Olivia Newton John! I'm waiting to see who TBA is during our trip...I am soooo hoping that it's Thomas Gibson! If so, I'm switching over to him.

I have five million pictures of the France pavilion and Les Chefs...so I have no idea why I didn't post more pics!

ry%3D480

Kona Cafe (breakfast)

Sci-Fi Dine In (lunch)

We ate here last September. I LOVED the onion rings & the mushroom Swiss burger! I do not eat burgers, but I really loved this one!

We really enjoyed the atmosphere, Luke loved watching the cartoons with his daddy, and we loved sitting in the cars!

ry%3D480

Boatwright's (late dinner)

You'll understand THIS more once I post my resort change! (Sorry I don't have time to post it right now!)

Rainforest Cafe (the one at Downtown Disney)

This will be a new restaurant for us! My parents ate here two years ago & said the food isn't great. I intentionally made this for a night where I know there's a possibility we will cancel. If we eat here, that's fine with me. I'd like to try it. But if we have to cancel, that is also fine with me because it isn't a "must do" at all.

I made this reservation for one of our off-property days. I really want to try the Melting Pot or an all you can eat seafood buffet. If we stay at the mall or outlets until dinnertime, we may try to find one. If we make it back to property, we will be eating a late dinner here (around 7:30pm).

ry%3D480

T-Rex

This is a MUST DO for Luke!!! I let him pick a restaurant after showing him a lot of YouTube videos and pictures online. He really wants to eat here.

I'm hoping it works out because I know it's loud & dark inside the restaurant. He is still afraid of the dark...but he's usually ok if I am right beside him or hold his hand. I'm still worried about it and I even told him multiple times that it will be dark.

He said it's ok...he knows that the dinosaurs aren't real except that their heads are real. I have no idea what that has to do with it
being dark, but that was his response!

We did go inside T-Rex in 2010 to see the gift shop & Build a Dino. At that time, Luke had no interest in building a dino & we left the shop after buying a few little plastic dinos under $10. Since he is more familiar with Build a Bear now, I'm afraid to go near Build a Dino! LOL!

ry%3D480

This is the dino that has the "real" head!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

Tusker House

We will be venturing into the Village of Harambe for our next dining reservation!!! I am really looking forward to this one!

We had a ressie at Tusker House last September but had to cancel at the last minute because we switched around our park days.

I tried to make a new reservation, but of course they were booked solid!

ry%3D480

Tony's

This will be changed to the brand new Be our Guest restaurant!!! I cannot wait to make my ADR for this! It is my last "big detail" of the trip.

Once this is done, I will feel relieved & like everything is in place for the trip!

Just in case I cannot get it for some reason, I will keep Tony's! It will be a new one for us as well!

ry%3D480

Play & Dine (Hollywood & Vine Character Breakfast)

We ate here in 2010. If you have followed my past reports, you'll know that I really wanted to get a picture with Luke and Handy Manny...but Luke was terrified once the characters got too close to him! I want to try again! I am not a fan of breakfast foods, but I did enjoy what I ate at the buffet here. Luke also ate a lot, so I'm hoping both he and Tyler will eat a lot!

ry%3D480

ry%3D480

JoJo the Clown is gone.

ry%3D480

Leo is gone (from Little Einsteins)

ry%3D480

June is still there (she's from Little Einsteins too!)

ry%3D480

Handy Manny is still there! Yay!

ry%3D480

In addition to Handy Manny and June, Special Agent Oso and Jake from Jake & the Neverland Pirates are both there! I'm excited about their addition because Luke really loved Oso...he doesn't watch him much anymore, but he does still like him. Tyler also watches Jake as much as Luke used to watch Handy Manny!

I'm very excited to meet both of them!

Next update...Resort Switch!!!! (but I'm sure you've already figured it out from my dining choices!)

I think your dining choices look awesome! You have some of my personal favs on that list, and one that I haven't tried before (but really want to), Via Napoli.

I would definitely keep Biergarten, I think its such a neat place, and the food is good too! I think your kids would have a lot of fun there, my DS loves the show.

Based on your awesome line-up, I don't think anyone is going to go hungry! :goodvibes

Oh and if your resort change is where I think it is- GREAT choice! :thumbsup2
