I am a wdw vet traveling to DL for the first time this summer without the hubs. Due to the economy we probably will be staying at the Candy Cane instead of onsite. I know we;ll take the hotel shuttle back to CC each night.Should I be concerned about being a woman traveling and staying alone? How many of you mommies do this and feel safe and secure?I dont have any problems doing this in Orlando... Also my son is 10 and my daughter is 5 so there are some things he's going to want to do that she cant do.(For instance California Screamin which she's not tall enough for) Will they let us wait in line with him? Thanks in advance!

You should be perfectly safe doing the shuttle. You might be better off sending your son through the single rider line than waiting with him in the big line. If you feel comfortable doing it you could get him a cell phone and walk him to the ride then take your dd to a nearby attraction to ride or look at until he is done then he can meet you there. The carousel is right next to Screamin and your dd would probably love that. You can pick up a pay as you go phone for fairly cheap and just have it for the trip and not have to worry about a contract. We let our 13 year old go off on her own with a cell phone on our family trip in December so she could do some of what she wanted with out the younger kids. She absolutely loved it and we kept in close contact. Anytime she left a ride or attraction she called and told us where she was headed or she would call just to see where we were. For me it would depend on the 10 year old, if you think it would be a good idea or not.

I stayed at the Candy Cane with three kids (niece, Nephew and son) We got tired of waiting for the shuttle and actually walked back to the hotel. It is a nice area and we've never had any problems. I am not saying don't be aware, I'm saying it isn't all bad. Then again I teach high school (formerly in LA) and have a few years of self defense under my belt, lol.
I waited in line with the niece and nephew while I held my son then they went on the ride while I just went through the exit. My niece was ten (but a tiny girl) and my nephew was 8.
For me personally I would stick close to them in the park because it is easy to get separated in the park and in crowds. But, you shouldn't have any issues being a mom traveling alone with two kids.
Candy Cane Inn is nice and is in a nice area.

Yes, for most rides that he wants to ride that your daughter cannot, you will all be allowed to wait in line together until the end. There is a "chicken exit" for EVERY ride, towards the very end. Just let the CM know at the entrance of the ride (and again at the boarding area) that you and DD will not be riding, and they will direct you where to go.

Not sure they will allow you to go through the ride line if she is not tall enough to ride. They change these things all the time - but when my oldest was not even two yet (she is 8 now)- they would not let us go though the Indy line with my husband. It is such an ellaborate queue I thought my daughter would love seeing it. It wasn't like I was going to try and sneak her on at the end.

The CMs were nice - but said no. The had my husband use the single rider line and gave us a baby swap pass.

They do change line management all the time. One year there is a single rider line at a particular ride, then the next year there is not, then the third year is.

I am about to go for the 3rd trip without DH and we are fine without him. I agree single rider line is the way to go for screaming.

Did my first trip alone with dd last October. She used the single rider lanes for a couple of the rides I didn't go on and it worked really well. The only changes we made was the hotel we stayed at. When dh has been with us we didn't mind the 30 min walks after dark back to the hotel. Last time we stayed at BW Anaheim Inn and felt very safe after dark. There were always lots of people at all hours walking to nearby hotels.:)

We stayed all girls at Portofino a little bit farther than candycane. I had no issues or concerns there are so many families walking riding the buses that it didn't phase me a bit. I even walked back with DGD alone to our hotel after fireworks one night. Now we did travel back and forth early in the morning and usually before midnight. Not sure if I would walk it after midnight tho :confused3
I plan to travel in August back to DL with DD12 and DGD1 and I am not concerned re: being "alone" just stay aware of your surroundings and you will be fine :)

I'm a single mom and our trip last month was the 1st time we didn't have somebody else with us (grandparents, my sister) it was fine. We stayed @ the Crowne Plaza in Garden Grove (which has a shared shuttle with 2 other hotels) and our last night we spent at the DLH. I felt very safe, I was never worried. DS used the single rider lines for Indiana Jones & CA Screamin' ~ everything else all 3 of us rode.

In 2 weeks the 3 of us will be back ~ I'm not sure where we'll stay yet.
Last month DL closed @ 8pm each night ~ we'll have the same closing time for our 3 days next month
