I was emailed this article by a friend and knowing how many mommies (SAHM and working) we have around here I thought other might be interested in reading it.

I thought it was very good.

I am always discuraged by how mean some mother's can be towards others instead of supportive (what we all really need, and the thought the article was very insightful to todays problems.)

It is long, but worth it. I am interested in her book.

This was a great article! Thanks for sharing!

I'm not a mom yet, but I see a lot of these things in the parents of my Kindergarten class... While I believe in giving a lot to your kids, and I believe that a parent should stay home with the children, we often go too far for them... It drives us as adults and parents crazy, and really kind of turns the kids into wimps! (Please don't be offended, anybody, but a lot of kids (not all!) these days are kind of wimpy and whiny!)

I agree with you. Before I was a parent I taught pre school and was a therapist for many years. (even taught parenting classes, go figure :confused3 )

Even though I try not to do too much for my kids, I have to admit my oldest is a bit wimpy and whiny, some of it is just personaility! ;) I make it a point not to over shcdule us or put too many demands on them. (I do have behavior and manors expectations, but that is different then demands for perfection on both myself and them.) :teeth:

That was a great article. Thank you for sharing it.

It really does give a lot of insight into the challenges facing our generation of mothers. I do have to say, though, for the most part in my family we have struck a balance that feels comfortable.

But it has meant compromising: putting aside a career I thought I always wanted, and working full-time in another position. All this to afford DH being home on weekends and evenings, to afford some of the luxuries we have in our life, and to afford some flexibility so I can be a part of my childrens' lives in a more meaningful manner.

I see both working mothers and stay at home mothers working themselves to the point of exhaustion to do it all. I guess I don't know how to solve the problems, but I can sure understand them.

I too have alwasy tried to strick a blance in my life. Stress is what you make it, and the article give a lot of insight into the stress many moms are feeling.

The bottom line is women don't need to beat ourselves up for not being perfect. :goodvibes
