Mommy..Lotso is a Jerk!!

When asked why he would want to meet LOTSO my nephew (all of 5 years old) summed it up this way:

"Of course LOTSO is mean. He's angry because he got left behind and doesn't think anyone loves him any more. But if no one ever goes up to him and hugs him, then how will he learn to be nice again?"

The Character Attendant actually had tears in her eyes! :goodvibes

:earsboy:

We purchased a Lotso Hugging Bear last night and as we went to other stores, in search of last minute trip items, EVERY cashier mentioned him, and asked why we would bring home the BAD GUY!!!!!!!

We laughed, and explained our plan... We are driving down to Dinsey world and are decorating the van... and Lotso is going to be joining us.. attached to the grill of the car!!!!! :rotfl2:

That is so cool!! Great idea.

Are you kidding me? :rotfl2: We have the exact same idea for our August trip. I have not been able to find a Lotso outside of a Disney Store...is that where you got yours?

We are decorating our room window with our Toy Story stuff too. We've got Woody, Buzz, Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head, the Barrel of Monkeys, the army soldiers, Sparks the robot and some other Toy story decorations (some trading cards with the characters). My brother-in-law and his girlfriend will be in another room and they are going to decorate the window with the Nightmare Before Christmas stuff because that's what they got the most of.

Anyway...I am surprised we were NOT the only ones who thought of driving down with Lotso tied to the grill.

We picked him up from Toys'R'Us. We looked all over for one, and almost settled for a "reasonable facsimile" (a pink teddy bear) when we walked in and there he was!

Here are some pics from our last trip. I will post pics from this trip next Saturday just before we leave!

That is positively the most adorable van ever!!! I am so inspired for our drive down! Where are you getting your stickers, is it Home Depot? What kind of marker did you use for the window?:wizard:

My DS (9) loves, loves, loves Lotso! He sleeps with him every night. He takes him everywhere. He will not accept the fact that he is a villain. We met him at DHS in June. My son was in heaven. After we saw Toy Story 3, I thought he was going to be upset about Lotso. But he still believes that he is a cute cuddly strawberry pink bear. I told him that Lotso was just acting in the movie or maybe he was the replacement bear. It doesn't matter to him, he still loves him. He can't wait to go back to WDW and see Lotso.

I'm telling you that plush bear is magic. :lovestruc My sister-- in her late 30's, mind you-- wanted to take him home for herself. He's a sweet talker alright.

When my older DD was 2yo, during her first trip to WDW, she was SHOCKED to see Captain Hook in the parks. That was the only character that she did not RUN to, but she did want to stand in line to meet him. When it was her turn, she told him that she didn't think he was very nice to Peter Pan in the movie, but he must have "turned good" to get to be in the parks ;) Captain Hook gave her a giant hug and she spent the rest of the day telling everyone that Captain Hook was, indeed, a "good guy."

Maybe your daughter will get to have a similar heart-to-heart with Lotso :goodvibes

By the way, this same DD saw Toy Story 3 and informed us, sobbing, "I'm NEVER going to college!" Not exactly the message we wanted her to get from that film, but hey.....

I'm very surprised they chose Lotso to add to the parade and for a meet and greet. I didn't think he'd be popular with kids.
I agree! DH and I were talking about this recently. Some kids probably don't fully realize he's "bad"--I'm talking little, little kids here.. but some (obviously!) do!

Of course there are going to be photo opportunities with Disney villians at the parks so I guess I'm not too surprised but still-- who wants their picture taken with him? Big ol' meanie!

Also, I was at my local Disney store today and saw the cutest Lotso plush (he is really really cute..) and asked the sales lady how Losto was selling.. she said he was the 2nd biggest seller in their store! I was pretty shocked. But, I guess you could always pretend your Lotso (or the Lotso you're meeting in the park) is nice. :goodvibes

Thanks for the compliments!

We got THOSE stickers straight from the Sandy Lion Sticker Warehouse (which is 10 minutes from my home) but they are just the same stickers you get for bedroom and playroom walls at Walmart/home depot etc etc).

We lost a couple of the smaller ones on the trip, but the big ones were solid.
To apply them we just used soapy water on the area we wanted to apply the sticker, placed it, adjusted it to where we needed it, and then used a credit card to squeegee out the water to seal it. To remove them at the end of the trip we just peeled them off.

The markers are Crayola Window Markers. Due to the tinting, we had to apply on the outside, and we hit a rain storm 6 hours into our drive and it all washed off.. (not that that was a problem i just quickly re-did it).

This year our theme is mischief makers. (Stitch, Lotso, Donald Duck, Pluto) ;)
as well as a custom 25X25 inch hood decal (art provided by the fine folks on the diSign boards!).

I will post pics once it is complete!

I said this about Lotso a month ago on another thread, and I haven't changed my mind:

Three days after seeing the film, my kids (and my DH & I) are still making random comments about how horrific that bear was. He is a new species of villain for Disney, and one that may mark a watershed in how kids at the parks relate to villain characters.

The thing about the bear is that unlike every other Disney villain I can think of, he does not have visible trademarks that mark him as a bad guy. No bushy eyebrows, no sneer, no sweeping black cape. All he has is a hammer used as a cane. He's the Captain from Cool Hand Luke dressed up as Cat on a Hot Tin Roof's Big Daddy. (Which I guess makes Woody Paul Newman? :confused3)

Most crucially, he's the personification of every child molester a kid is ever warned about -- evil wrapped up in an outwardly kind and grandfatherly cloak. He's a bloody nightmare, and unlike almost all of Disney's traditional over-the-top-evil villains, there is nothing funny about him. He gives me the willies, and I'll bet that an awful lot of kids will react the same way.

Well, Lotso IS a jerk (and that's putting it mildly). I'm sure he gets yelled at by lots of kids. If they ever bring back the villains dinner he'd be a natural...but I still think Frollo is the worst Disney villain ever. What sets Lotso apart is he may be the first Disney villain who doesn't LOOK like a villain.

Ned Beatty is the voice actor. I thought his voice was creepy too, is it just those who've seen Deliverance who get that?

I'll agree with you about Frollo, so cruel! Another one I'd like to add to the list is Scar. Like Lotso, he had the chance to do the right thing and chose murder instead.
I totally agree with you about Lotso not looking like a villain being the big difference. My DD7 was sobbing during the whole inferno scene; I actually had to hold her on my lap.

Love the whole idea of Lotso being the loved one not the mean one. :goodvibes

We've not seen TS3 yet but I am worried about how my sensitive DD7 will take him. This is the same child who teared up when I asked if she wanted Lady Tremaine or the step sisters on her outfit for dinner at 1900 Park Fare. We've always done Cinderella but I wanted to change it up. She cried as she asked me why I would want her to wear mean people on her clothes. Some kids are just sensitive. :)

Love the van!!!

Toy Story 3 can get pretty dark... I wold try to watch it first before bringing your daughter... just in case...

Lotso was at Target in my town last weekend...

:)

It was Captain Hook at Disneyland that helped my husband when he was a boy who had gotten separated from his family. Hook saw him, realized he was not with his family, and waited with him until his family came back to where they'd left him (he was reading the map and they walked away!). Yay for Hook!

Interesting. To me, before I knew anything about the movie (I'm on Pixar's FB page but I hated all the spoilers for Up that they posted, so didn't watch ANY for TS3), but as soon as I saw the pictures of Lotso, I could tell he was bad. something in his forehead, the heavy eyebrow area, just screamed "bad guy" to me. I've been surprised that anyone has been surprised that he's a bad guy!

I haven't seen Deliverance either, but Ned Beatty's voice has always been weird to me. Even in Superman playing Otis.

I told DD the story that Lotso was just acting mean and was really a nice bear. She said "no one is that good of an actor..he must be mean on the inside". My 6 year old -almost 7 yr old-talks like she is 20! She went on to say "she is not buying it!". (Meaning my story). She said she does not want her picture with him, and if I make her stand near him, she is going to put on a miserable face for the picture. I guess this is progress, considering last night she wanted to tell him off..;)

Yeah, to me he looked evil as well. I mean, from the pimp cane to his own personal ride (the truck)...come on! And let's not forget his possee, big baby was just plain creepy! :rotfl:

OK, I have to confess that my 2yo had to go potty right at the scene when Lotso is about to have a chance to redeem himself and i have no idea what happened...

I saw Toy Story 3 with my sister and my 3 year old nephew. He yelled at Lotso, in a super-crowded theater of course, "You piece of poop!" No doubt quoting something he heard from his dad as he tries to make his language PG. We got some strange looks!

:rotfl2: Hilarious!

When we went to see UP, DS was 5 at the time and right after the house lifts up into the sky for the first time, he stood up, pointed and yelled, "Take that suckers!" at the construction workers!
