"Mommy! Dey heads is fweaky!" 8 (otherwise) wonderful days in March 2011

Glad you got to use your FPs for TT in the end! And despite the rain, it sounds like you had a nice time in Epcot!

Glad you made it to test track! Be glad you didn't get on there in the rain. We have been on it once or twice where it rained and it can be painful going around the loop! That's great they had already snagged a table at the Electric Umbrella!

Epcot is the favorite park of both my children. Just as your children were enticed by the koi, it is those little treasures that my youngest loves about the countries. For the oldest, it's all about the food and snacks. He loves getting that soda in Japan that has a marble in the bottle, a caramel treat at Germany, a sweet pretzel at Norway, a chocolate croissant at France, fish and chips at UK, OR a Churro at Mexico.

subbing... your kids are so adorable. Looks like you had a great trip in spite of your dd's fear of fweaky heads!

We had rain at Epcot too and TT was closed for a while as well, but we did get on it later in the day.

It had been raining when we went to bed Wednesday night and we knew the forecast was for rain on Thursday too. We were keeping our fingers crossed that it was wrong, but we woke up to a soggy, gray day on Thursday – our Animal Kingdom day. I knew AK wasn’t the park I wanted to be at the rain, but I also knew we didn’t have too much choice. The kids each had appointments on Friday and Saturday in the Magic Kingdom and we don’t do hopper passes, so if we wanted to see AK, it would have to be in the rain. So we ate breakfast in the room, put on our ponchos and headed out – I was SO SO glad that I had remembered the $2 ponchos I bought at home and didn’t have to pay for the Disney ones (though they were cuter :cutie: ) Mom sat this day out, so it was just the 4 of us.

We got to Animal Kingdom around 8:45. The rain had been a light sprinkle on the drive over, so I was optimistic that it wouldn’t be too bad. However as we started walking across the parking lot, the rain picked up to a more steady pace. Lovely. Oh well, like I told Benjamin when he started complaining, we can either sit in the hotel room doing nothing or make the best of it and do what we can!

We quickly learned that rain has its advantages at Disney World – there was no mad dash at rope drop this morning! Buddy decided he didn’t feel like doing EE, so we headed over to Dinoland. Eliza wanted to ride TriceraTop Spin, so we walked right on – we were the only ones on the ride and it was chilly and wet. They did take pity on us and asked if we wanted a 2nd ride. Benjamin didn’t, so he and Buddy got off and Eliza and I took a 2nd spin around. She loved it but boy was it cold and not too pleasant with the rain hitting our faces! She was ready to get off after our 2nd spin around so we headed into a shop for a little while to try and decide the best course of action in the rain.

Buddy and I decided we’d go ride Dinosaur while we were in that area – we took turns waiting with the kids and both of us walked on to the ride with absolutely no wait. It was nice to take the wet poncho off and be indoors for a little bit, though it was pretty chilly. Bought some snacks to keep the kids happy – Mickey head cheese crackers and yummy toffee crunch sunflower seeds. Man, those were GOOD!

After we’d both ridden Dinosaur, we saw “It’s tough to be a bug!”.

We didn’t get around to seeing it last time, so it was new to the kids. Eliza liked it and I think Benjamin did too, but he jumped BIG time at the end when the bugs “crawl” underneath your seat. :lmao:

We went over to Kilamanjaro Safari after the show and pretty much walked right on it too. We had a great safari – the rain had lightened considerably and by the time we were on our safari, had pretty much stopped. I had a very good time with my zoom lens on safari - so cool!

We got Fastpasses to do the safari a 2nd time and then we did the Pangani Forest Exploration Trail.

We saw an absolutely adorable one year old gorilla. He was so cute to watch.

After that we saw Finding Nemo:the musical. Last trip I took tons of pictures of the show. This time, after schlepping around in the rain all morning, I just wanted to sit, warm up and enjoy. And I did. I just love this show and the music makes me all misty eyed every time. Sniff, sniff, letting my little fishies swim off on their own...

Yeah, I can imagine that rain at those speeds feel like little pieces of glass hitting your face!

I think I could totally eat my way around WS....think that's the plan for next time. ;)

Those are awesome animal shots!!! It makes me want to go back right now...even in the rain! :rotfl:

Thank you! :) And you know, as I was uploading all these pics, on yet ANOTHER day of rain here at home, I was thinking "This rain would be a lot more fun in Disney World." Sigh.

When the Nemo show let out, we were all really hungry, so lunchtime was next! We headed over and ate at Restaurantosaurus. The rain had totally stopped by then and we had a nice lunch outside on the patio – it was just a little chilly when the breeze picked up. I apparently hadn’t learned yet that I should bring myself a sweatshirt.

Eliza had a little meltdown at lunch – long overdue because she’s usually good for at least 2-3 a day at home. She wanted chicken and they didn’t have a kids meal chicken at Restaurantosaurus – I told her she could get the adult meal, but it wouldn’t come in a pail with a shovel like the kids meal Benjamin was getting. After MUCH debate, she decided that was fine, she wanted chicken….until we were actually sitting down and she started crying because Benjamin had a bucket and she didn’t. Fun times! I assured her Benjamin would share the bucket, much to his dismay and complaining. A few quick threats that she wouldn't lay a finger on the freaking bucket if she didn't stop and everyone was fine again. ;)

We ate and checked out the alligator for awhile.

The kids had been dying to play in the Boneyard since they saw it on the planning DVD – and it was something we didn’t do last time, so that was next on the agenda. They loved it in there and spent nearly an hour playing and digging.

Ok, I feel this picture should come with a "not safe for work" tag or something. I love it b/c it's so him - always ready to join the kids and have fun with them. I'll just say I don't know what happened with my husband's shirt and leave it at that. :confused3 :rotfl:

The rain had been stopped for awhile by then but the crowds were still pretty low. Seeing that there was no wait, we hopped over to TriceraTop Spin for another ride.

This one was MUCH more enjoyable then the mornings!

After that we used our FP for Kilamanjaro Safari and had another great safari. We were able to catch some of the Jammin’ Jungle Parade on the walk over.

We had a reservation for TRex Café at 6pm that night and our original plan was to only stay at AK until 2 or so and go back to the hotel for the kids to rest before dinner. That didn’t happen – and their moods had been so good all day that we chucked that plan pretty early on. They were huddled in the stroller under their ponchos and the rainshield and didn’t do much walking in the rain that morning, so they were good to go without a rest. By the time we got off our 2nd safari, it was about 4:15. We left AK, spent a good deal of time trying to remember where we parked, picked up Mom at the hotel and were off to DD for a dino-riffic dinner.

Just some assorted shots from the day. I always forget until I'm there how much I love taking pictures at AK. A little sun and/or blue skies would have helped most of these, but watcha gonna do? :)

I love your safari pics!

Sounds like you had a nice day at AK, despite the rain. I'd been lucky on my last few trips -- no rain at all -- so when I had to spend a day under a poncho last month, I was unprepared for how much of a difference it makes! Not nearly as fun, despite the crowd-clearing!

Wonderful job with all the animal pics. So glad it turned out to be a good day for you guys despite the rain! :thumbsup2

Those are fabulous pictures. I think the sun would've bleached them out too much. You got great pictures.
It sounds like a fabulous day..minus the 1 meltdown...but we all have at least one of those usually.

How fitting...I am actually here at work right now. :rotfl2: Too funny!
