DS12 and I will be taking a Mom & Son trip in August. I don't think we will be able to go next year so this will be our last trip to the World for a while. We are hoping to resume our family trips in 2010 but who knows. DS loves Disney as much as his Mom! DH loves it, too but work is putting a crimp in plans this year. He is all for us going without him & even said that he doesn't mind taking a year or so off.

I want this trip to be extra special for DS and I but have limited funds. I have arranged for the diver & menu at Coral Reef. :goodvibes DS's #1 request is to eat at Jiko so I have that ADR (along with many others as we are on Deluxe Dining). I plan to make t-shirts thanks to all the creative Disignors! :worship:

I have thought of having a basket or something but we are staying at POP and I am not sure it will be in our room on arrival. Plus that really isn't DS's 'thing'. Can anyone think of anything additional that I can arrange or plan to make this trip extra magical? :wizard:

Thank you all!

That sounds like a great trip :) My ds is 12 too -- I wanted to do a mom/son trip, but I was a little leary about traveling just the 2 of us, but you've inspired me :)

If I can be a little nosey, how do you handle things like bathrooms when it is just the 2 of you? That's my main concern, since I think ds is too young to wait outside the restrooms alone or venture off to the mens room at the parks and airport, and now that he is older, I am not sure if he is too old to keep taking in to the ladies room so he can use a stall there.... I know I may sound over-protective, but I thought it couldn't hurt to ask:)

If you can, you should take the trip! I fluctuate between sad that DH isn't coming with us to happiness at having this opportunity with my DS! He and I have flown to my sister's in Fort Lauderdale by ourselves. That was my biggest hurdle to overcome the first time.

As for bathrooms, I am Ok with DS going into a restroom alone. We pick ones where the Mens and Womens rooms are near each other and have a designated meeting place right outside. Even last year when DH was on the trip, DS and I spent a few hours alone in MK. If worked out fine. He and I will each have our cell phones just in case but I don't expect to be separated except for the restrooms. DS is very aware of stranger danger and what to do.

If at all possible take the AQUASEAS Tour in the Living Seas. You Actually go snorkeling, right in the tank at the Living Seas!!!!:woohoo: You do not have to be experienced. The guide will show you how to do everything. I am sure if you do a search of this site or allears you will find info . It is a little expense
But I would ditch or downgrade the dining just to do this.
Maybe someone else reading has more info.
Whatever your plans ;have a great time!!!

Thank you for the well wishes! DS has a bit of an issue in water so I don't think he is quite ready for this yet. He had a bad experience that we are trying to work thru. Almost there, but not quite yet ...

It is something that I will definitely consider in the future for sure!

My opinion - the qulality time you are spending with your son is special enough! :goodvibes I too took a Mommy/Daughter trip last August when my DD was 8. We had a blast. We didn't even do anything special. No special meals, no special tours, the time we spent together was special in it's own right.

You guys will have a BLAST! It's a wonderful opportunity! Enjoy! :lovestruc

I have been worrying about the same thing for future trips with DS. We have a few years before it is unacceptable for him to accompany me, but I am a premature worrier :rotfl2:. Being a single parent, we will mostly be taking our trips alone unless my parents decide to join us.

Hey girl, you can order and enchanted call. Mickey can call him. If its not tooo childish. The other thing I did for my son when we went at one rest, is that I ordered a cake for like 8.00 and said it was his bday!!! He laughed embarrased but happy... It was NOT his bday and everyone sang for him.. it was hilarious. I also bought a lot of stuff off ebay and Disney store and I packed it and surprised him when he was in the arcade. I had a Big box and placed it really nice on the bed. It had A nice Nighmare before christmas jammies, Candy, washcloth, Pirates Necklace, like beach/surfer kind for guys, Crocks and Jibbitz, Oh and the Mickey big gloves, I got on ebay for 4.99!!! they are 20.00 in the parks, oh and a jack sparrow towel from the disny store...ask me if you need more info. ;)

I think your trip sounds awesome! I've taken each of my boys separately on father/son trips and we had a wonderful time. Those are the trips that they both talk about even more than our family trips - now several years later. We didn't really do anything "extra" outside of time in the parks, and a water park - but the time together was definitely quality time. Both times I let my son "lead", and pretty much determine where we went and what we did. They each loved being "in charge" for a while. :) Have a wonderful time!
