Mom & Son Eat the World Part 2 - Updated 1/20 Breakfast at POP & Cost Summary

Great new reviews! :thumbsup2
We have never been to Tusker House - we don't usually do character dining, but it looks tempting! ;)
And now I am feeling bad not putting Yak and Yeti on the list for our upcoming trip ......... hm, maybe I can fit it in somewhere, :lmao:

For those that read our last year's report, you may remember that DS was horribly sick at the end of our trip including the meal he was most looking forward to - Jiko.

Here he is, very happy (and silly) to be back!

img_0633.jpg

DH and I did get a bottle of wine but again, I didn't write it down! The receipt says "DeToren Fusion". It was good although not as good as the wine at Artist Point.

For appetizers,

DH had Taste of Africa - Trio of Dips with Assorted Breads and House-made Naan

img_0637.jpg

DS had the Tibs Watt in Panekoeke - stewed beef rolled in "crepes" with peppadew-olive tapenade but we all inhaled them before I managed to get the picture! :headache:

And I had the Artisan Cheese Selection - Five Goat, Cow or Sheep Cheeses from Around the World

img_0635.jpg

Everything was very good!

For entrees, of course DS had the Oak-Grilled Filet Mignon - with Macaroni & Cheese and Red Wine Sauce

img_0638.jpg

Just as good as I remembered from last year!

DH had the Barbecue Beef Short Ribs - with Roasted Yukon Gold Potato Salad and onion-garlic sauce

img_0640.jpg

This was good but not as good as the Kenyan Coffee Ribs from last year.

I had a pork dish that is not on Allears. It isn't on the WDW official site either. It has bacon & cabbage with some potatos. It was truly delicious!

img_0639.jpg
.

We did get desserts and tea here - I don't see any of the desserts on Allears either. But the desserts are on the WDW site -

img_0641.jpg

DS had Kenyan Coffee and Koeksisters - Kenyan Coffee Ice cream with spiced donuts. He would have eaten several more portions of this!

img_0642.jpg

DH had Roast Apple Tarte Tatin with cinnamon ice cream and vanilla sauce

img_0643.jpg

I had Lemon White Chocolate Mousse with Blueberry Coulis.

img_0645.jpg

All were excellent!

Dinner with the wine ($75) came to $269.40 all included in our plan!

We all agreed that Artist Point was overall a better meal, but Jiko was definitely top notch as well. Would be hard to pick only one for future trips!

DH ate the ribs and I ate the steak at Jiko...sooo good. I'm actually sad we won't be making it there this time. :(

Reading your reviews when hungry = bad idea! I might have to go to TGI Friday's to grab some fried green beans right now!
Jiko never really appealed to me, but those donuts and oak fired beef looks so yummy!

Greetings from Snowy England!:goodvibes

I would just like to say how much I am enjoying your reviews!:thumbsup2

You have been to many of the restaurants we are hoping to go to in August and I'm finding your dining report very useful!

The photographs of food are excellent and I love how positive and honest you are with your comments!

Keep up the good work!:)

Yes, I definitely think it is a must do for us when we get to go back. That filet is just too good!

I forgot the Friday's has those green beans! They just built one not to far from us. Hmmmmm.... may be taking a trip soon!

Thank you from soon to be snowy NY! Glad you joined in! I will hopefully get the next installment up tonight ...if not, tomorrow for sure!

Wow, it all looks so good, glad you had a better time at YnY this time. Jiko has never appealed, but off to check menus again after your review. Thanks so much!

Great reviews, I'm loving them!

Your meals at Y&Y and Jiko look particularly appealing. Y&Y was one of our favourites last year and we can't wait to re-visit in August!

I enjoyed your R&C review too. Being from the UK, it's never really appealed to me but I'm thinking otherwise now! Could you please tell me if the sticky toffee pudding has any fruit in it? We tend to serve it over here with sultanas/dates (neither of which I enjoy!).

It's funny because I looked up the recipe yesterday to see if I can recreate it at home and see that it has dates in it. I didn't really notice that but I only had a couple of bites. I know it was extremely moist so it makes sense now.

I can see why eating at R&C wouldn't appeal to you while there! I won't even step into the American Pavillion food area! :upsidedow Too many other good things to try!

Count me in!!!

Thank you for reading!

Once again life interfered last night and I couldn't get the next day done. I plan to do it right after work today. Le Cellier & Flying Fish coming up!

Hmm, if the dates aren't too noticeable then I might be ok with it! Thanks. :)

Looking forward to your Flying Fish review, I'm considering it for August!

Ok, on to the next day -

We got to EPCOT early & the wait for Soarin's was still crazy. Grabbed fast passes and went to Sunshine Seasons to get something to old us over til Lunch.

We used snack credits for -

img_0646.jpg

Strawberry Shortcake for DH and I, a pumpkin muffin for DS, a banana & an OJ for me and two coffees (not in the picture) for DH and DS. Unfortunately I didn't get a receipt with the prices. The SS was very good and DS loved his muffin!

Lunch was at Le Cellier. I booked lunch intentionally so we could try their burger and maple bbq chicken sandwich. We had no idea that they would be serving the dinner menu all day at the EPCOT restaurants. Asked if there was any way to get a burger and was told 'no'. Actually thought about leaving but DS really wanted the cheddar cheese soup!

Started off with a Magic Star Cocktail -

img_0653.jpg

And the yummy breadsticks -

img_0655.jpg
.

I think DH had a beer, but no pic. :confused3 I loved the cocktail and of course the pretzel breadsticks!

Ok here is where we failed. For appetizers, DS had Canadian Cheddar Cheese Soup - Made with Moosehead Beer and Smoked Bacon Cup,

DH and I shared the Spicy Chicken and Chipotle Sausage - with Roasted Corn Polenta and Sweet Onion Jam and the Tomato Stack - with Caramelized Onions, Cucumbers, Crumbled Blue Cheese, and Yuzu Vinaigrette.

Somehow we completely forgot to take pictures! :scared1: Did realize it until our entrees came! :headache: Soup was terrific as usual. I really loved the sausage and polenta. I think it was one of my favorite appetizers of the whole trip!

For our meal, DS tried Coffee-rubbed Kansas City Strip Steak - with hazelnut butter and cream cheese mashed potatoes

img_0658.jpg

I didn't try it but both DH and DS declared it one of the best steaks of the trip.

I had Le Cellier Mushroom Filet Mignon - with wild mushroom risotto, white truffle and herb butter sauce

img_0660.jpg

This was absolutely delicious! The steak was tender, the rice fantastic. I have tried to recreate the risotto at home and even though mine comes out ok, it just isn't quite as good as this.

DH wanted to try something different - Pan-seared Scallops - with artichokes, golden beets, salsify, capers, and lemon-brown butter sauce

img_0659.jpg

He said these were very good. I am not a huge seafood fan and didn't have a taste.

Once again, too full for dessert. Lunch was $149.44 plus $21.04 for the cocktail and beer.

Very, very good but a seriously huge meal for lunchtime. It's vacation though, right?

While watching Helga the German Storyteller, DS wanted a snack and this guy seemed appropriate -

img_0663.jpg

Very tasty!

After reading here on the Dis, I knew I had to try a Rosa Regala -

img_0675.jpg

And at some point I really wanted another Welsh Dragon. So why not have it while listening to some Off Kilter!

img_0681.jpg

Our dinner at Flying Fish was pretty late and we all needed a snack. This is when DS got Fish and Chips from the Yorshire County Fish Shop. Sorry, no pic! (Boy I failed today)

DH and I split the Mediteranean Sliders Combo - three pita pockets - lamb, chicken and falafel with lettuce, tomatoes, onions, cucumber and Tahini sauce served with Lentils, Hummus and Tabouleh from Tangierine Cafe

img_0683.jpg

DS astually had the lamb one, DH the chicken and I had the falafel. We just picked at the sides. I thought this was very good but would like just a falafel wrap in the future.

On to dinner at Flying Fish! Ok, I am sorry to say that this was a disappointment to all of us, especially after our meals at Artist Point and Jiko. I think part of it was that we ate late and that we were absolutely freezing. We tried to check-in early and a woman at the podium was very nasty about it. A younger guy there told us he would take our names and we could warm up in the bar but we would probably be seated at our ADR time. That was fine with us. Wish the first woman had said that instead of snapping at us!

Once seated, our waiter, Tim, was very nice but seemed truly overwhelmed. It seemed that he only had 3 tables but was having a hard time keeping up with things. Not actually "bad" service but not what we had received the previous two nights.

DS started with the Soup of the Day which was said to be New England Clam Chowder with Clam Fritters (not on Allears)

img_0687.jpg

He was a bit disappointed in this. It was more like a clam stew than the creamy NE chowder he is used to.

DH had Crispy Sesame and Togarashi-scented Calamari - spiced green papaya, Wakame and Vegetable Julienne iwth Asian dipping sauce

img_0689.jpg

He said these were just Ok and wished the had tried something else.

I had Our Chef's Degustation of Worldy Artisanal Cheeses - Five tasting portions - Raisins On The Vine, Membrillo, Honeycomb, plum-red-onion balsamico compote

img_0688.jpg

I did enjoy this, especially the honeycomb. And I loved the crispy bread/toasts that came with it.

DS had Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe: Char Crusted Certified Black Angus New York Strip Steak - pole beans, Roasted Fingerling Potatoes, root vegetables and Classic Sauce Foyot

img_0693.jpg

He thought this was very good but that DS's steak at Le Cellier was just a bit better.

DS tried Our Signature Flying Fish Cafe Potato-Wrapped Red Snapper - Leek Fondue, veal glace, and Red Wine and Cassis Butter

img_0692.jpg

He loved this. I tried a bite and liked it, too. Neither he or I had ever tried snapper before and were afraid it would be too "fishy" for us but not the case with this. Very good.

I had Wattleseed, Porcini, and Pepperberry-crusted Double-cut Berkshire/Kurabuto Pork Chop - bacon-laced Rhapini, royal mushrooms, celery root, fig-balsamico-red-onion-porcini compote

img_0691.jpg

I seemed to eat pork a lot this trip. This was very good but again just not quite as tender as the pork I had a Jiko.

No dessert for us. We were tired and really just wanted to grab a cab back to POP.

Cost with a one credit bottle of wine was $231.05.

DS said he never wants to come back even though he did enjoy his fish. DH and I would both give it a try but agreed that this meal overall wasn't up to par with our previous meals. But again, it wasn't bad. Just 'off' when compared to our previous dinners. If we had eaten here first, our feelings may have been different.

Love the new set of reviews!

We need to try more of the stuff from Tangerine Cafe - looks yum and more than enough for sharing.
And thanks for the Flying Fish review - we are going there for the first time in just 5 weeks time and I love "knowing" what I want to order beforehand! :lmao:

I posted my review of our LeCellier dinner today and was :rotfl: when I read yours and you had ordered exactly what we had! :thumbsup2

Can't wait for more!!!!!!!!

all looks good, especially the snapper. FF is on our list for aug, now not sure whether to try jiko instead....decisions decisions!

What a shame that FF was somewhat of a disappointment. Le Cellier looks great as always! I must try a Rosa Regala and a Welsh Dragon on my next trip...

I love that snapper at Flying Fish. I'm thinking about trying the steak there next trip though. I'm sorry it seemed to dissapoint you a bit.

Great Minds this alike!

We truly love Jiko and would definitely pick that over FF. That said, I really think we were just 'off' and I would like to give FF another try.

Yes, you must! Both were delish!
