Mom said I had to go! The "Melting in May with Mom" Report! Updated 11/9 - EPCOT!!

Wonderful afternoon at the Animal Kingdom. We made the mistake of not seeing FOLK the first time we went. On our second trip we caught it and haven't missed it since. I love showing it to someone for the first time. My youngest sister spent a summer interning in New York and saw some musicals. The first time she saw FOLK she was so impressed and compared it to Broadway, but on a much smaller scale.

We had a wonderful bus driver once on the way home from DHS after the last Fantasmic. He made our trip enjoyable even though it was standing room only. I believe his name was John. He had everyone cracking up.

Such a lovely view. I'm so glad your room was improved.

Glad they got you switched to a room with a grand view!! You definitely did alot at AK in such a short amount of time. So glad your mom liked FOTLK, such a wonderful show!

We didn't see it on our first trip to AK either! Now I can't imagine not seeing it! It's a must-see for us! :thumbsup2

I didn't catch the name of our bus driver, but boy they sure do make what could be a really boring ride much more interesting when they liven things up!

We loved our view and enjoyed it all week long! :goodvibes

Great update Sara! Yak & Yeti sounds yummy and those drinks look good too! Sounds like you afternoon at AK was a great way to start your trip. Too funny about the FOTLK show. I do remember seeing Timon's eyes move for sure. Not sure on the tumble Monkeys, I know they are in a few songs. I agree with Michelle, you noticed more because you weren't watching your kids this time. Yay on the Poly room! Your mom did a good job getting you girls a room with a better view :thumbsup2. I think a castle view might be in my future after seeing the pics!

Ha Nichole! You might just have to go for that castle view next time! It was magical!

The weird thing about FOTLK is that I've only seen it once with my kids, the other times were with Monica and Michelle on our girls trip, with Shawn on our couples trip, and on this trip with Mom. So you would think I would have caught pretty much everything by this point! I'm thinking maybe the place you sit can make the show slightly different too! :confused3

After sitting out on the balcony enjoying our lovely view and sipping a beverage, we decided to go back in, freshen up, and head to the GCH to grab some dinner at Capt Cook's. A friend of mine, Charlene, was eating dinner that night at the Kona Cafe with the singles group from the DIS (well...part of the singles group) and then heading out on the Grand 1 for a fireworks cruise. :cool2: I had told her that I would try to come by Kona and say hi! Her ADR was for 7:00 and by the time we got ready to leave the room it was about 7:15. We found that walking from Tahiti to the GCH was much more enjoyable along the beach route instead of through the winding sidewalks inside the resort grounds, so we almost always went that way when we left our room in Tahiti.

The Poly at dusk is just gorgeous.

We split up when we got to the GCH. Mom was on a mission to find a bottle of wine since we had forgotten to order one with our Garden Grocer order, along with a bottle opener for said wine. :drinking1 I was heading upstairs to see if I could find Char! :thumbsup2

I found her group sitting right on the edge of the restaurant so I just butted in on their conversation to say Hi!!! It was so great to see her and catch up for about 15 minutes while she was waiting for her food. Then I went downstairs to find Mom shopping and we made our way over to Capt Cooks to get some dinner.

I was very excited to try the Hawaiian flatbread finally! In all my other times at Capt Cooks I had only had the Adult Grilled Cheese (which I love) but have wanted to try the flatbread too! Mom and I also took that opportunity to purchase our first-ever refillable mugs. :yay: We figured we would definitely get our money's worth out of those since we could fill them up every morning on our way out to class and fill them up on our way back to the room when we got back to the Poly before heading out to the parks!

We headed outside to eat our food and enjoy the lovely Poly night-time atmosphere! I liked the Hawaiian flatbread but I have to say it wasn't AS good as I was hoping. I preferred the Adult Grilled Cheese to it. I still ate every last bite though! We got such a kick out of this set of sisters that looked to be around 3 and 5 and they were loving the baby ducks that were walking around the area. A whole group of these babies were at the Poly all week - we must have seen them 10 times during our stay - SO cute, and these little girls were in LOVE with them.

We grabbed some desserts from Capt Cooks (cookie and brownie I believe) and walked out towards the beach around 8:30. I could see the Grand 1 heading to the Poly dock from the Grand Floridian and sent Char a text msg telling her that I felt like a stalker because I could see her boat and then I saw her and her singles group heading out to the dock to board their boat. It looked like they were in for a fun night! :cool1:

We sat out on the beach for a little while longer and watched her boat get further and further away (I received a text msg from her as she was on the boat saying that the bathrooms weren't working and they were pulling into the CR for a bathroom break! :rotfl2: Nice!)

After a few more minutes, we decided to head back to the room, change into our PJs, and enjoy Wishes from the balcony while drinking a glass of wine and eating our desserts!

And that's exactly what we did. I attempted a few pictures from the balcony....they aren't that good, but you can at least tell what kind of view we had for fireworks. It was so fabulous! :goodvibes:goodvibes

(This one I took with my cell phone so I could send it back home to Shawn - terrible quality, sorry)

We stayed out on the balcony and talked about the trip so far as well as our plan of attack for our first day of classes tomorrow, and before long we were hearing that all-too-familiar music that is the Electrical Water Pageant! I just love seeing the EWP and I love the history of it. :)

We turned in after that as we were exhausted from our long day on NO sleep from the day before, plus we were getting up WAY early in the AM to give us enough time to get over to the Gaylord by 7:45. We left the curtains open and I laid there watching the Contemporary from my bed. My mom actually said we should move our pillows so that we would be facing the opposite direction and could drift off with the castle in our view, but we didn't.

Lights out and disney dreams!! :cloud9:

Thanks
Brooke:goodvibes

Sounds like a perfect night to me! Glad you got to meet up with Charlene, even if it was breifly. That's more than I can say for us! :sad2:

Wishes from the balcony is perfect, and then you don't have to battle the crowds to get home. I absolutely love the Electrical Water Pageant too! :cloud9:

Sorry you have to get up for classes in the morning though.

Looking forward to your day 2!

Brooke:goodvibes
Well this particular trip, the heat was significant. Not July or August heat I'm sure, but it was pretty melty. The good thing is that every once in a while, we would get breezes and they were actually "cool" breezes. Not just moving hot air across you - they were actually cool air, you know? SO that was nice. They didn't happen that often, but still...they were nice. I see you live in AL, so you are probably pretty used to the heat. My DH and I were there last year this same time, and it was warm, but this May was much warmer - we were in the 90's most days. Luckily for us, we had classes on most days that were during the hottest times of day! :goodvibes

It was funny Michelle, because every night we weren't in the room around the time the EWP would have been coming by, we were kind of sad to be missing it! Mom was all "I'm missing my parade!":rotfl2:

ugh....classes....oh well, it should make this report move along faster since for 8 hours of the day, I was just sitting in accounting classes. Or did you want me to go over in excruciating detail about job cost accounting/workflow/payroll macros/ etc, etc (don't answer that...YOU probably would want to hear about it...you acccountant you!!)

So pretty! :)

My favorite time of day at the Poly - that and early morning!! :cloud9:

Sara

Again, I'm loving your view! The perfect way to end a day in the World.

Thanks! It was a nice way to end our first day in the world! If only we didn't have to get up and go to class the next day!

Would you mind? ;) I probably would enjoy hearing about the classes. :rotfl:

What a wonderful evening!! Meeting up with DISers, dinner at Captain Cooks, Wishes from your room=fabulous!!

Wow! What a fabulous day! You sure had a lot of good luck, first with the bus waiting for you at the Park, and then that awesome room!

What room number in Tahiti was that BTW? I assume that was a theme view room, not a garden view room, right?

Sounds like heaven enjoying that wine, watching Wishes and then the Water Pageant.:cloud9:

What a great trip to share with your Mom!:goodvibes
