And, I heard this from my cousin while we were out tonight.

Molly was not a kid-friendly dog but, she never bit anyone....until this week I guess. :( She bit my niece and drew blood. When my Dad got home from work, the deed was done.

Well, I guess it's not that simple here in Illinois anymore. Because Molly bit someone and, drew blood, they have to file a report and draw blood before they put her down. Poor thing.

It gets worse......When my Mom got the dog, she was watching DS and supposedly, got the dog FOR my son. Well, I guess I lacked tact when I came home tonight (1/2 mad at Mom for not telling me) and told him and, he's a little upset with his grandparents right now. I feel bad, too. I had kinda forgotten how he was with Mom when she picked Molly up and, all the years they spent together. :(

Well, from what I know, at least my niece will be ok.

Sorry, venting a little.

I hope your niece is ok. Poor dog. It's weird how animals are, you never know what they may do when. We had a dog that was on the friendly side with us, but when I stepped on his chain, he didn't like the idea, and bit me. I only had teeth marks and he didn't do anything after that. I hope your son will be ok with what happened.

Dang KimRaye.....that's a tough situation all the way around....I hope your niece gets well soon...

My best wishes and warm thoughts to you & yours in this difficult time....

Sorry about Molly. The in-laws put the family cat down a few years ago, which made my husband very sad. Not that he could have done anything about it because it wasn't his cat, but he just wished he would have known ahead of time. Hope your niece heals quickly.

I'm sorry to hear this Kim. :(

I'm sorry Kim. Sorry for your neice, sorry for the dog and sorry your mom didn't think to tell you or warn you.

So sorry to hear that, Kim. Always sad when any animal goes to the Rainbow Bridge, whatever the reason. So often it is not really the animal's fault. Mt best to everyone.

So sorry to hear that. My parents raise Bernese Mountain Dogs and had to take back one of their pups (was already over a year) because it nipped (no blood, no marks) someone. It is always sad when a family pet crosses that Rainbow Bridge. Hope all of you will be ok.

I hope everything works out, Kim. I put a dog down way back in 88--he had bitten a friend's daughter and we went through all the procedures, but a couple months later he went through a screen to bite my paper boy--I put him down that day, knowing if I didn't I wouldn't do it after the 10 day quarantine. I ended up paying a hefty fine for not keeping him alive for 10 days after an anonymous neighbor reported it to the dog warden, and they almost made the poor paper boy get rabies shots. I hope your mom doesn't have any "anonymous neighbors" like that( mine was a retired cop). It's always hard enough when a pet dies without having to worry about stuff like that.

There's nothing there to worry about actually. Since it was reported as a bite, the proper "procedure" was done to confirm that Molly didn't have rabies.

If ANYONE can confirm what I heard as the "procedure", I would appreciate it (sorta). :( (Makes me want to vomit tho really) :(

My niece is ok. It's nothing more than a scratch but, she did bleed at the time.

I guess what happened is that my niece went to give a neighbor's dog a treat, thru the fence and, Molly took obvious great offense at this and, bit my niece. :( :(

Thanks everyone. I'm really kinda surprised at myself for how I feel since, I never warmed up to Molly.
